“It’s about time. You should head back to your dormitory,” said Feini.
“Good night.”
Qingshamu, feeling content after a pleasant chat and drink tonight and finally making a little progress with the goddess, knew she shouldn’t push too hard.
She got up and took her leave.
When she stepped outside, she found White Feather Dove sitting in the courtyard, meditating.
On a sudden whim, she approached White Feather Dove and sparred with her for two moves.
She conjured a Mana Flying Sword from the Moonlight Magic Dragon, flipping it up and down, then coated herself with Moonlight Mana, transforming it into Magic Armor.
White Feather Dove immediately gained a brand new insight.
Whether she liked it or not, as long as she saw it, she could learn it, because the magic of father and daughter was just too similar.
After passing on the skills, Qingshamu left the little wooden hut and grove, satisfied, and went back to her dorm to sleep.
Before, her relationship with her roommates could only be described as being at odds, but after traveling together as a team, things had eased up quite a bit, and meeting each other was no longer as awkward as before.
White Feather Dove also stopped meditating, slowly stood up, and unleashed the power of Dark Moon, beginning to practice the new moves she had just comprehended.
The first new spell was called [Mana Flying Sword].
It was actually a mid-to-low-level spell, a notch above Elemental Projection, and suitable only for certain Magicians with specific talents.
For instance, Frost Magicians or Mountain Magicians, those with highly moldable elements, could use it to greatly enhance the precision of their spellcasting.
But as for Fire Magicians and Thunder Magicians, Mana Flying Sword was not suitable at all—it was just a flashy trick to them.
Far better to hurl a giant explosion spell and blow things up instead.
But White Feather Dove would probably never get a taste of such high-powered destructive magic in her life.
Her Dark Moon Magic was all about sneakiness, and her spell constructions were always as devious as possible.
The second new spell was called [Magic Armor].
This was an advanced version of the Magical Barrier, but it also had the limitation of needing specific mana elements.
Even Frost Magicians and Mountain Magicians were not very well-suited to this spell, as it restricted movement too much.
So generally, only another kind of mana manipulator profession would use Magic Armor—and that was the [Priest], who could wield Light Power.
What was called Light Power was actually just the light element.
A Priest was a kind of light Magician, only they were monopolized by the Church, forcibly split away from the ranks of regular Magicians.
The biggest trait of this magical talent was possessing powerful support abilities, greatly boosting the team’s stats and healing.
Bright Moon Magic and Bright Moon Magic were both variants of the light element, but without healing effects; instead, they gave even stronger self-empowerment, more resilient mana properties, and unlocked more aggressive spells.
Before, White Feather Dove had only learned Magic Imbuement and Magical Barrier.
Now, her offensive and defensive spells had both been upgraded, and she wasn’t favoring just one side, her stat distribution was very healthy.
“Sis! Mom! You’re home!”
Once Qingshamu walked off, Heiqi Long suddenly popped his head out of the back room and leapt into Feini’s arms, nearly knocking her over.
“Xiao Hei, have you been good?” Feini stroked the dark blue hair on the dragon’s head.
“Uh…” Heiqi Long felt a bit guilty and didn’t reply.
“You didn’t cause any trouble, did you?” Feini asked.
“She’s sent dozens of Apprentices of Tea Gathering to the infirmary lately. On average, she injures one and a half people a day. Does that count as causing trouble?”
The Faceless Witch floated down from the ceiling, calmly explaining.
“That’s all? Fights between Demonic Beasts are a daily occurrence, not considered trouble at all. It’s just normal behavior. Not fighting would be odd.” Feini said.
“How’s your project coming along?” the Faceless Witch asked.
“Look at this.” Feini took out a golden Adventurer badge.
“……” The Faceless Witch fell silent for a moment.
“What’s wrong?” Feini asked.
“You want to leave the God and Demon Academy?” the Faceless Witch shot back.
“I…” Feini’s heart skipped a beat—she hadn’t expected her plan to be guessed so easily.
“So I wasn’t wrong. I’m the one who brought you up. If you leave, I’ll be demoted. You can’t just walk away.” said the Faceless Witch.
“I know, let me think.” Feini fell into contemplation.
She really was planning to take her daughter away from the God and Demon Academy, but that would cause a problem—the Faceless Witch would lose them, and with them her trump cards for promotion.
She had made it to Training Director thanks to White Feather Dove and Heiqi Long.
But the Faceless Witch had helped their family a great deal.
Though their relationship had started as one of mutual exploitation, she couldn’t deny that the witch had shown them great kindness.
Feini was not someone ungrateful or heartless; she couldn’t abandon the Faceless Witch in such a way.
“The world is vast. I want to take Da Bai and Xiao Hei out to see it.”
Feini decided to be honest since they were all on the same side.
“But I don’t want you to lose your job either. Why don’t we think of a way for us to leave the God and Demon Academy, while you get to keep your job?”
“Why do you insist on leaving? We’ve already talked about this before—the Demon Domain is at war, Demonic Beast forces are fighting everywhere, and aside from the God and Demon Academy, there’s not a single safe land.”
The Faceless Witch was surprised at Feini’s frankness, feeling a rare sense of trust.
“You saw the Adventurer badge and guessed I want to leave, so naturally I want to go to the Human Race.” Feini said.
“You two Weapon Demons and a dragon want to go to the Human Race? Actually, the Human Race might not be much safer than the Demon Domain.” The Faceless Witch pressed.
“I don’t really know how to explain it. It’s an instinct inside us. We just want to go that way. There’s no reason.” Feini said.
“You Demonic Beasts are so odd. Sigh, do whatever you want. At worst, I’ll just go back to running recruitment errands.”
The Faceless Witch sighed, slumping down beside them, looking a bit like she was sulking like Qingshamu used to.
Feini couldn’t help but feel guilty. She couldn’t let her own interests ruin the Faceless Witch’s career; that would be too selfish.
“Is there a way for us to go see the Human Race, and for you to keep your job?” Feini asked.
“Now that you mention it…” The Faceless Witch suddenly perked up. “Actually, there really is.”
“What is it?” Feini asked anxiously.
“The academy’s goal is to train undercover agents for the Human Race. Why don’t you go be our Undercover? That way I can still get promoted and a raise.” The Faceless Witch explained.
But wasn’t that still just working for the God and Demon Academy, and not true freedom?
“If you agree, I’ll put in the application for you, but it won’t be easy to get approval.” said the Faceless Witch.
“No, you don’t need to apply. I have a better way. When the time comes, you’ll be begging us to be your Undercover.” Feini said, putting on a mysterious air.
“What is it?” The Faceless Witch asked.
“I can’t tell you yet.” Feini shook her head. “Don’t notify your superiors for now. Just wait and see.”
“You trust me too much. I’m not used to it. Besides, what we’re doing isn’t exactly by the rules.” The Faceless Witch huffed.
“That’s because I know you’re different from other witches, and we’re different from other Demonic Beasts. We should help each other.”
Feini stood up with a bright smile and went back to her room to continue her nap.
Heiqi Long clung to his mother, sticking to her like glue, insisting he could only sleep while hugging her.
The Faceless Witch, meanwhile, floated outside to check on White Feather Dove.
It had been a while—how was her disciple’s magic practice going?
“Mentor.” White Feather Dove greeted the Faceless Witch with utmost respect.
She was in the midst of practicing a new kind of magic, and upon seeing her mentor approach, she promptly demonstrated her latest spell combinations.
She wore Dark Moon Magic Armor, layered over with a Magical Barrier, gripped a Rune Sword imbued with Dark Moon Magic, and had several Magic Swords floating around her.
At this moment, White Feather Dove displayed yet another remarkable talent: [Multiple Casting].
She could multitask, maintaining several long-duration spells at once.
Although this wasn’t a rare talent—many magical prodigies could use Multiple Casting—for most ordinary Magicians, the best they could do was maintain a magic shield and then stand in place to throw attack spells.
“Da Bai, looks like you’ve picked up plenty of practical magic elsewhere.” The Faceless Witch remarked sharply.
“That’s all because someone forced me to study. I didn’t go against your wishes, Mentor.” White Feather Dove admitted repeatedly.
“I’m not blaming you. Being able to learn good things is your own skill. I heard you’re about to face off with the Tea Party Club. Looks like your mentor can’t fall behind. Let me teach you some true skills.”
The Faceless Witch said calmly.
“Thank you, Mentor.” White Feather Dove immediately put on a serious face.
“Watch closely.” The Faceless Witch put both hands behind her back, and suddenly, a surge of magical energy erupted from her, her speed increasing dramatically.
She spiraled and drifted to circle around behind White Feather Dove.
“……” White Feather Dove took a deep breath. The air was thick with magic particles, her eyes wide.
“Did you see clearly?” The Faceless Witch asked from behind.
“No.” White Feather Dove answered honestly.
“Whoosh! Whoosh!” The Faceless Witch instantaneously teleported in front of White Feather Dove again, holding nothing back, displaying every detail of the spell so her disciple could see it more clearly.
“This spell is called [Magic Drift]. It’s the advanced version of the basic spell [Magic Bloom]. It works by spreading your mana outward to use as propulsion for rapid movement—a mid-level spell that doesn’t require a complex magic tome, and any Magician can learn it.”
‘However, mastering this spell is not easy, so few Magicians choose to study Magic Drift. It’s extremely niche, but I think it suits you very well.”
The Faceless Witch explained.
“Thank you, Mentor.” White Feather Dove dropped to one knee to show her gratitude.
“Practice well. You don’t have much time left.” The Faceless Witch turned away, her form vanishing into the wind.
Just a Training Director, yet acting like a reclusive master.
