The girl ignored Bai Nian’s questioning and charged at her once more.
Her speed was terrifying, even faster than a mutated zombie.
Yet under the enhancement of Bai Nian’s right eye, she could easily track her movements.
Even so, when their fists and feet collided, it felt as if Bai Nian was fighting a steel golem.
Intense shockwaves and pain shot through her arms and legs; the girl’s attacks lacked any technique.
But when Bai Nian landed a punch on her, it left not even a scratch.
The girl surpassed her in both speed and strength.
Her body could no longer be measured by human standards.
Shi Gao quietly retreated; at this moment, the fight had clearly become a duel between just the two of them.
Bai Nian relied on technique to keep up, but the opponent couldn’t be judged by any logic meant for normal humans, showing not a single weakness.
She used a punch to push herself back, swiftly drew her handgun, and pulled the trigger.
Several bullets shot out, and the girl became nothing but an afterimage, dodging rapidly.
Just as she approached the side of the building’s entrance, she suddenly felt something hit her neck.
She whipped around and kicked the empty air before her.
Two muffled grunts rang out—Zhang Kun and Shi Gao were once again sent flying by her immense power.
“Damn, why is she so tough!”
Zhang Kun, sprawled on the ground, cursed angrily.
His attacks had no effect on the girl at all.
“Invisible!”
Bai Nian rushed over and grabbed both of them.
In an instant, the three disappeared from the spot, leaving the girl standing there, baffled, scanning her surroundings in confusion.
But in reality, they hadn’t retreated.
Bai Nian held Shi Gao by the shoulder with one hand, her other hand slowly raising the handgun, while on the other side Zhang Kun bit down on the hand grenade’s pull ring.
Bang!
A gunshot echoed out.
Under the cover of the shot, Zhang Kun yanked the ring off, and the two immediately dashed to the side.
Revealing herself, Bai Nian fired several more shots in succession, emptying her magazine as she faced the girl’s attack head-on.
With all her might, she finally kicked the girl back, but the force sent her reeling as well.
Bai Nian silently counted down.
Dawn was breaking; the first ray of sunlight illuminated her face, and a flash of blue appeared in her right eye.
She saw the invisible Shi Gao and Zhang Kun and rushed straight towards them.
“Three… two… throw it!” she shouted.
Upon hearing her, Zhang Kun hurled the hand grenade with all his strength.
As it flew past her, Bai Nian kicked it, making it speed up even more.
The girl couldn’t react in time—she only saw a black iron lump suddenly appear before her, flying straight at her.
Before it even reached her, it abruptly began to expand, unleashing a terrifying energy.
Boom!
A deafening explosion rang out, countless fragments wrapped in a raging blaze tearing everything nearby to shreds.
The three of them quickly ducked into the building, using the walls as cover as thick smoke swept in, filling the room.
“Cough cough… is she finally dead?”
Shi Gao asked, voice trembling with fear.
“Even if that damn thing isn’t dead, she’s gotta be seriously injured. What a monster…”
Zhang Kun cursed, covering his mouth and nose with one hand and his stomach with the other.
Only Bai Nian, who was at the outermost edge, kept a close eye on the outside.
A sense of foreboding crept into her heart.
Suddenly, the sound of a flute drifted in—clear and melodious, soothing their frenzied nerves.
Bai Nian sharply looked over.
Thick smoke filled the area, obscuring the view, but for her, this was no obstacle.
She saw clearly—the girl stood there unscathed, a pair of slender, fair jade-like hands emerging from her sleeves, holding a flute and playing it gracefully on the spot.
So it’s really a law of smoke without injuries!
“Damn it, come on, I don’t believe I can’t blow you up!”
Bai Nian pulled out her last three hand grenades from her bag and strode toward the door.
Shi Gao and Zhang Kun realized how serious the situation was and immediately followed.
The girl stopped playing, her fingers poised over the flute’s first hole, as if preparing to act at any moment.
“Stop! Don’t fight anymore!”
Suddenly, a familiar voice called down from the floor above.
Bai Nian halted her motion with the grenade, and the girl also let go of her flute.
A slender figure rushed down the stairs in a hurry—it was Li Qian.
Behind her came an elderly man, well into his fifties.
“Li Qian (Sister Qian)?!”
The three shouted in unison, startled.
“Everyone stop, stop! This is all a big misunderstanding!”
She hurried to Bai Nian’s side, signaling for her to stand down, and beckoned the girl over as well.
“What on earth is going on?”
Zhang Kun asked impatiently, his mind struggling to keep up with the sudden developments.
“This is a long story, but first, let me introduce you. This here is the Doctor, the target of our mission.”
She looked at the three, then turned to the Doctor.
“Doctor, these are my three teammates.”
“Heh, the features are obvious. I could tell at a glance that you’re not from here, just like Xiao Qian,” the Doctor said kindly, smiling.
“Not from here? What do you mean?”
Bai Nian’s gaze sharpened as she questioned him.
“You are not people of this world,” he said calmly.
The three were shocked at his words.
What’s going on, an NPC realizing they’re an NPC?!
“No need to be surprised. I even know the reason you’ve come here,” the Doctor said.
“Since you’re all guests, why don’t we come inside and sit?”
With that, he turned and walked into the building, the girl silently following him.
Li Qian gave the three a meaningful look, then quickly stepped up to assist the Doctor.
The three exchanged odd glances, but decided to follow.
The Doctor’s house was simple—aside from various medical equipment, there was little else.
“Please, make yourselves at home. Cough cough…”
Suddenly, the Doctor, sitting on the bed, started coughing violently.
Li Qian hurried over with a handkerchief.
The white handkerchief was soon stained bright red with blood.
The girl stepped forward, her concern and worry plain to see, but she was powerless to help.
Bai Nian noticed his life force was extremely weak and asked, “You seem to be dying?”
“Yes, this virus is extremely corrosive…” he gasped, “If it weren’t for Xiao Na, I wouldn’t have survived this long.”
Bai Nian shot a deep look at the girl nearby.
“Xiao Na was once a zombie who turned back into a human. The conversion wasn’t perfect—she’s got significant flaws. She can’t speak and is missing some emotions, but she can command other zombies,” Li Qian explained.
Zhang Kun and Shi Gao were both shocked, “Zombies can turn back?!”
So the Doctor really was researching a drug to turn zombies back into humans.
Bai Nian wasn’t surprised; she’d long suspected there was a Zombie King behind it all.
Just then, the Doctor added, “Xiao Na is also my daughter.”
