Chapter 39: Lilith and Lilian

Night had fallen over the residential district of Far East City.

Lilian walked ahead of Ian, leading the way for him.

Following his previous conversation with Deere, Ian had clearly defined his next goal after saving Lilith—to successfully conquer the Labyrinth!

Originally, he had thought Deere could conquer it by himself.

However, after learning about those two criteria, he knew he couldn’t count on Deere anymore.

But now, Veronica was still in a coma, so it was impossible for her to participate in the raid.

‘So, will I have to take action myself?’

Ian wondered as he walked.

The person he was now could not be compared to the version of him that had just transmigrated.

After training in the Mysterious Space and the baptism of the Body Strengthening Potion, his strength had undergone a qualitative leap.

He looked up to see Lilian’s darkened expression.

“I… I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to do that.”

Ian quickly apologized for his behavior.

“Go in. We’re here,” Lilian said, not dwelling on his lapse in composure.

Looking at the wooden cabin in front of him, Ian stepped inside.

He hadn’t forgotten the reason he was here.

Right after leaving Deere’s room that morning, he had immediately found Lilian.

He told her that he had successfully refined the antidote and could proceed with treating Lilith.

Upon hearing this, Lilian brought him to the location where she had hidden Lilith that night.

However, before starting the treatment, he had already informed Lilian of the medical plan he prepared for Lilith.

He had also truthfully told her that the result would be Lilith turning into a member of the Demon Race.

Yet, after hearing Ian’s words, Lilian still chose to let him treat Lilith without hesitation.

After all, compared to lying in bed and suffering through the agony of illness, becoming a Demon was not unacceptable.

What made Ian curious was what kind of Demon Lilith would actually turn into.

Since the two of them had been turned into Demons by the same type of Demonic Qi, they should theoretically become the same kind of Demon.

Unfortunately, Ian didn’t know what kind of Demon Lilian was.

She was an expert in Disguise Art that even Deere couldn’t see through, so how could he?

“Sister, are you back?”

Hearing the door open, Lilith’s weak voice drifted from inside.

Following Lilian inside, Ian saw Lilith lying on the bed.

He was startled to see that Lilith bore a seventy to eighty percent resemblance to Lilian.

The only difference was that she possessed more of a Human Race aura than her sister.

In the game, even though the protagonist eventually discovered Lilith’s condition and the cure, she was never saved.

Instead, she chose to commit suicide early on to escape the torture of her illness.

This had been the final straw that broke Lilian’s sanity.

After Lilith’s death, Lilian blamed everything on the Demon Race.

She defected and caused massive losses to them.

She also served as the guardian deity for the Protagonist Party during the mid-game.

Finally, during the great battle between the Protagonist Party and the Demon God, she single-handedly withstood the Demon God’s attacks multiple times.

In the end, to buy enough time for the protagonist, Veronica, she chose to self-destruct.

This ending made Lilian one of the few characters in the game who died at the conclusion of the story.

“Sister, look at the heart I folded at home. Isn’t it pretty?”

Since Lilian was standing in front of Ian, Lilith didn’t see him immediately.

“Yes, it’s beautiful.”

Lilian set aside her perennial icy expression, a slight smile touching the corners of her mouth.

Even her tone became incredibly soft.

‘So, Lilian actually has such a gentle side!’ Ian remarked inwardly.

Lilian sat by the bedside and gently stroked Lilith’s hair.

Lilith leaned into the touch, enjoying her sister’s affection.

However, after a short while, Lilith broke the silence.

“Sister… maybe you should just stop looking after me.”

Lilith had given this a great deal of thought.

She didn’t know her sister had become one of the Four Heavenly Kings of the Demon Race; she believed her sister was still just a commoner.

She held no hope for her own illness and only wished for her sister to have a better life.

Over the years, her sister had hired countless doctors for her, but they had never been able to cure her.

She often thought that if she weren’t a burden, her sister’s life would definitely be better.

Over time, the thought of giving up had taken root.

“What are you saying? How could I possibly stop looking after you?” Lilian scolded her.

“I’m just joking, Sister! I still want to play games with you again, so why would I want to give up?”

Lilith quickly explained when she saw that her sister was genuinely getting angry.

Only Ian, listening to the sisters’ conversation from the side, knew that Lilith wasn’t joking.

She really was considering giving up on her life.

After all, that was exactly what she had done in the game.

“You are not allowed to say such things ever again,” Lilian warned.

If anything happened to Lilith, she wouldn’t know how to continue living.

“Mm, okay. I won’t mention it again,” Lilith looked up and promised.

As she raised her head, she finally noticed Ian standing to the side.

Instantly, her mood became excited.

“Sister, is he my brother-in-law?”

Hearing Lilith’s words, Ian, who was about to say hello, found himself at a loss for words.

‘Why does she think I’m her brother-in-law? Do Lilian and I really look like a couple?’

To be fair, both Ian and Lilian were exceptionally good-looking.

Standing together, they truly gave off the impression of a perfect match.
