Chapter 9: Are you okay?

“Working here often must be really stressful, right?”

Bai Nian leaned against the doorframe, casually chatting with the orderly.

“Not really. Mental illness isn’t contagious, and the pay here is decent, but it is a bit oppressive…”

The orderly hadn’t expected the doctor to actually talk to him.

He was standing a little too close, even catching a faint scent from her—something no man could easily tolerate.

Especially since this doctor was so beautiful.

“I’m a psychologist. Come to my room and I’ll help you unwind,”

Bai Nian said with a smile.

“Don’t be nervous, it’s just a chat.”

The orderly blushed slightly.

Officially, he wasn’t supposed to do this, but his job was only to stay close to the doctor, so it shouldn’t be a problem…

He nodded and followed Bai Nian into the room.

“Do you believe in hypnosis? That kind of manipulation of behavior and consciousness, changing a person’s perception,”

Bai Nian said casually as she sat on the sofa.

The orderly shook his head, clearly skeptical.

“Isn’t that something only gods can do?”

“Not really. Hypnosis just uses suggestion to help the mind reach a relaxed state, mainly for psychological treatment,”

she explained.

“It’s really not that exaggerated.”

She took out a pocket watch and began to swing it.

“Look, just focusing on the movement helps the mind relax…”

Bai Nian snapped her fingers, and the orderly suddenly woke up.

“When did I fall asleep just now?”

He looked bewildered.

“You’re just tired. When you relax, sleep naturally comes. Get some rest.”

Bai Nian’s gentle voice whispered near his ear.

Half-dazed, the orderly leaned back on the sofa and fell asleep again.

Bai Nian put away the pocket watch and expressionlessly slipped the Access Card from his body, then turned and walked out of the room.

Hypnotizing someone to alter their perception was somewhat troublesome for her, but simply putting someone to sleep was effortless.

Besides, this wasn’t the first person she had hypnotized.

The commotion outside had already been quelled; Bai Nian could hear the screams from the orderly’s beatings.

But she paid no attention and headed straight for the Director’s Office.

When she had been bullied, none of the classmates dared to stand up.

Why should she help them now?

The password lock on the Director’s Office door was stained with fresh blood.

Bai Nian immediately knew Su Su had just escaped through here.

“So the Director’s Office has a secret passage?”

she muttered, stepping inside.

Sure enough, right behind the Safe was a narrow tunnel.

But Bai Nian had no intention of leaving just yet, as she wasn’t sure it would get her through.

The Director’s Office held many important documents—she had noticed them during her first visit here.

The more she read, the more horrified she became.

This mental hospital was backed by a Financial Group, existing solely to harvest organs for wealthy clients.

Everyone who entered—regardless of their status—must possess organs suitable for some high-profile individual.

Except for the Director, no one was exempt.

None of the outsiders who came here had ever survived.

The records were incredibly detailed, not some fabrication.

Perhaps this was something that really happened in the real world.

Bai Nian pocketed some crucial documents and a Room Key, then piled everything in the center of the room.

She flicked her Lighter on and casually tossed it onto the papers, turning to leave the Director’s Office.

At that moment, several orderlies pushed a hospital bed past her.

Bound tightly on it was a girl, her mouth gagged with a towel so she couldn’t make a sound.

Their eyes met briefly as they crossed paths.

Su Su’s pupils constricted, sending Bai Nian a pleading look.

“Such trash,”

Bai Nian muttered, then turned to follow the orderlies.

They were taking her to the Operating Room, and Bai Nian knew exactly what awaited her there.

If not for the System Task, she would’ve stayed a bystander, but not now.

“Damn it, still have to save this useless girl.”

She memorized the Operating Room’s location but didn’t rush in using her credentials.

A weak woman like herself rushing in alone would be suicidal.

She turned toward the Patient Ward and was about to distract the orderlies when she heard a quiet conversation from a nearby room.

“Nier, I’ve brought in the city’s best psychologist this time. She’ll definitely cure you.”

“I’m not sick. I hate doctors. By the way, someone tried to escape again today.”

“Don’t worry, they were caught. Fun, right?”

“Yeah, but no one asked me…”

Bai Nian froze.

That was the Director’s voice.

When did he come back?

No, he never left.

This was just a facade to fool the patients—to provoke them into escaping so they could be caught again, all to entertain someone?

Bai Nian took a deep breath and shouted, “The Director’s Office is on fire! Everyone, go put out the fire!”

The nearby orderlies immediately rushed over.

The Director also hurried out, their eyes meeting.

Bai Nian instantly feigned panic.

“Director, your office is on fire! Quickly organize everyone to put it out!”

Hearing his precious documents were at risk, the Director panicked and didn’t notice that no orderlies followed Bai Nian.

Those things were very important to him.

He immediately led people toward the Director’s Office.

Soon, there wasn’t a single orderly left in the Patient Ward.

At that moment, the madwoman emerged from the room.

Bai Nian’s eyes sharpened, understanding everything.

She approached the woman and shook the pocket watch.

Among all the patients in this mental hospital, only this woman was truly insane.

Bai Nian’s hypnosis relied on props and was unrelated to her own mental state.

As the woman collapsed to the ground, Bai Nian turned and headed to the wards.

“If you don’t want to die, then leave now.”

She opened the ward doors, waking every patient inside.

Without much explanation, the patients noticed the absence of orderlies and naturally wanted to escape.

Chaos quickly erupted in the Patient Ward.

Bai Nian ignored it all and strode toward the Operating Room.

The classmates from High School No. 3 silently followed, twenty-some people in total.

“This place masquerades as a mental hospital but really traffics organs. Su Su is about to die; everyone, follow me to save her.”

Bai Nian didn’t look back as she explained to her classmates.

After learning about their missions, she knew their goal was simply to escape, while her task was far simpler.

She just might go insane, that was all.

She sneered.

Inside the Operating Room, Su Su’s face was desperate, her eyes filled with terror.

She knew Bai Nian wouldn’t come for her.

“Don’t give her anesthesia,”

one orderly said.

“Let her know the consequences of trying to escape!”

Another picked up a Bone Saw, a cruel smile tugging at his lips.

The spinning blade moved downward, inching closer to Su Su’s body…

At that moment, the Operating Room door was kicked open, and more than twenty patients rushed in.

They immediately grabbed whatever they could and began beating the orderlies.

Terrified, Su Su turned her head and spotted the familiar white figure among the crowd.

Bai Nian freed her from the restraints and tossed her Lab Coat to cover her.

Several orderlies were quickly subdued by the classmates.

As the group marched triumphantly out of the Operating Room, they ran straight into the Director.

A gun barrel appeared in the darkness, aimed at them.

Instantly, Bai Nian and the others froze.

The Director actually had a gun!

His face twisted in rage.

“It’s all ruined! Ruined! You might as well die too!”

He raised his finger to pull the trigger, but suddenly a heavy blow struck the back of his neck.

The Director collapsed unconscious immediately.

The orderlies behind dropped their iron rods and hurried to Bai Nian’s side.

“Director, are you alright?”
