She ran to a nearby print shop, printed ten copies, then returned to the rental room, transformed back into her magical girl form, and leaned over the desk to begin the final step.
She took out the Gold Signature Pen from under her skirt, signing “Feng Ling” in cursive on the bottom right of each postcard, then wrote a unique blessing message in the center of each.
Every blessing was different—some warm, some playful, and some in the form of a drawing of the little bell on Feng Ling’s ankle.
Feng Ling carefully tucked the postcards into her pocket, making one side of her long skirt bulge with sharp edges.
‘At this level, charging a hundred each shouldn’t be too much, right?’
Feng Ling fantasized about selling all ten postcards in the afternoon for a total of a thousand.
Her body instantly relaxed, her smile so wide she couldn’t suppress it.
She rolled over and browsed her phone, even swinging her legs in good spirits, rarely looking forward to magical girl work.
The afternoon task was routine patrol, assigned to the New District—an area with moderate foot traffic, not as bustling as the City Center Commercial Street.
But with only ten postcards to sell, it would still be easy.
The patrol itself was uneventful; she didn’t even sense any demon beast aura, so she could focus entirely on selling her postcards.
After finishing the patrol, it was supposed to be time to clock out, but she slowly circled in the sky twice, quickly drawing the attention of some passersby.
Seeing everyone’s eyes fixed on the magical girl floating around up there, she seized the moment to lower her altitude and land at the corner of Park Square.
Facing the gathered crowd, Feng Ling pinched a postcard between two fingers, held it high under the sunlight, and sweetly hawked:
“Dear everyone, look here, look here! Today, Feng Ling brings you limited-edition handmade postcards! Every background was drawn by Feng Ling herself. Only a hundred each, and only ten in total—once they’re gone, they’re gone!”
She brought the postcard close to her cheek, the cursive “Feng Ling” signature shimmering faintly gold in the sunlight.
Murmurs of “so cute” and “want it, want it” rose from the crowd, and several hands already reached for their phones.
Feng Ling skillfully hung the Payment QR Code around her neck, a professional sweet smile on her lips.
Just then, a customer’s phone chimed with the scan sound.
“Thank you for your…”
Feng Ling looked up with a smile, ready to hand over the postcard, but the words caught in her throat—because Lian Ge was standing before her, phone raised, smiling.
Feng Ling instinctively wanted to flee, to pull her hand back, but Lian Ge was faster.
With a pinch of her fingers, the postcard was firmly taken.
“Pretty well made,” Lian Ge said, holding the postcard up and examining it from both sides.
Her gaze finally landed on the hand-drawn little sun in the corner, and she couldn’t help curling her lips.
Feng Ling thought she was about to lecture her again, scanning the surroundings for an escape route.
But Lian Ge just carefully tucked the postcard into her palm, freed a hand to tap on her phone screen, and completed the payment.
“This one, I’ll buy it.”
Feng Ling didn’t understand what Lian Ge was playing at.
She decided to ignore whatever scheme she had and just get rid of her.
“Then please leave after buying, okay? There are people lining up behind.”
“No.”
Lian Ge’s tone was still firm, and those two words froze Feng Ling’s smile again.
‘As expected, she never changes.’
Feng Ling rolled her eyes and played her Lifesaving Trump Card from last night.
“Don’t bite the hand that feeds me, okay? I saved you yesterday.”
“Then I’ll buy another one, okay…”
Lian Ge said, pulling another postcard from Feng Ling’s hand.
She raised her phone to scan the QR code hanging from Feng Ling’s neck.
“Even though you saved me, it’s a matter of principle.”
“Who do you think you are? I don’t want money from a broke loser like you.”
Feng Ling took the QR Code off her neck and stuffed it back into her pocket.
Then she gathered the remaining postcards, pressed them all into Lian Ge’s hand, patted her hand, and spoke in a tone meant to dismiss a child:
“Fine, fine, I won’t sell them anymore, okay? I’ll just give these to you. Surely you won’t lecture me now?”
“Thank you.”
Lian Ge looked down at the stack of postcards in her hand, quickly scanning a few.
Each one had a different blessing message.
Her magical girl outfit had no pockets, so she solemnly loosened her waistband and gently tucked the postcards into it.
“Feng Ling, the reason I came this time is about something else.”
Lian Ge shifted her gaze from the postcards at her waist to Feng Ling.
“I wanted to ask—have you found a place to rent yet?”
Feng Ling thought for a moment, a bit wary of the question, but answered anyway, “Not yet.”
“Perfect timing. How about sharing a rent with me?”
“Huh?”
“Well, that demon beast yesterday destroyed the place I was renting… especially the water pipe—it burst and flooded the whole room. The landlord said it needs to be completely renovated, so I have to move out and look for a new place.”
Lian Ge lightly clapped her hands together.
“Since you haven’t found a place either, I thought we might as well share a rent. We can look out for each other.”
“I… I don’t want to share a rent, especially with you!”
Feng Ling stepped back two paces and made a big X with her arms.
If she actually lived with that person, Feng Ling had no idea how she’d ever make money again.
“Why not? I can take care of you too. You’re still a minor—living alone must be hard, right? You can come to big sister for any trouble.”
Feng Ling’s expression shifted from confusion to an indescribable worry.
Her eyes helplessly darted between herself and Lian Ge.
After a moment’s thought, she decided it was best to be blunt.
“Um… are you overflowing with maternal instinct or something?”
“Maternal instinct? Overflowing? Me?”
Lian Ge was startled by the word, her face visibly reddening.
She quickly shook her head.
“No, no, I just wanted to thank you, that’s all.”
Feng Ling didn’t care about her explanation.
She turned, pushed through the crowd, and strode away from Lian Ge.
But Lian Ge shamelessly followed, refusing to let go.
“Why are you following me? I already said no.”
“If you don’t want to live together, we can live nearby—that works too. We can still take care of each other. You wouldn’t even want me to accompany you while you look for a rental, would you?”
“And what if I do?”
Feng Ling sped up without looking back, breaking into a jog, the little bell on her ankle ringing clearly.
But the footsteps behind her quickly caught up.
Feng Ling glanced over her shoulder—Lian Ge indeed hadn’t given up.
Feng Ling’s Wind was fast, but Lian Ge’s overall strength far exceeded hers.
Unless she ran at full speed, she couldn’t shake her off.
“Can you stop being a stalker? I’ll call the…”
Feng Ling started to say “police,” but realized that was useless against a magical girl.
Asking the Association for help was even more impossible.
Given how abysmally low her Credit Score had fallen, even if Lian Ge followed her 24/7, everyone would just clap and say, “Captain Lian Ge works hard.”
Feng Ling lowered her head and accelerated, leaping into the air.
Her speed formed a cyan trail, but even at that pace, Lian Ge easily kept up, flying shoulder to shoulder.
“I told you not to follow! Are you deaf?”
Feng Ling couldn’t help but curse.
“Feng Ling, you’re still running away, aren’t you?”
Seeing Feng Ling desperately trying to escape, Lian Ge’s eyes softened.
“Actually, I already know everything.”
“What? What am I running away from? And what do you know?”
Lian Ge was definitely off—ever since Feng Ling saved her yesterday, she’d been acting this strange.
Lian Ge looked at Feng Ling’s wary and confused expression.
Her eyes grew even softer, and her voice dropped to a gentle hush, as if afraid of scaring the weak, helpless Feng Ling into bolting.
“Actually, you’re a demon beast, aren’t you?”
