After editing the message, Shen Ran hesitated for a moment and didn’t send it.
Though her family was ordinary, she had an excellent mother.
Many principles had been taught to Shen Ran by her mother since she was young.
At a time like this, she should call Senior Mo Qingqiu, personally go to apologize, and then fill out a resignation application. That was what a polite and good child would do.
After all, Senior had helped her quite a bit. Logically and emotionally, she shouldn’t just brush it off with a single text message.
After thinking it over, Shen Ran found Mo Qingqiu’s number and called.
The phone connected quickly.
“Hello, Shen Ran.”
Unlike the lazy tone from this morning, Mo Qingqiu’s voice was now crisp, back to normal.
She had clearly been awake for a while.
“Senior Qingqiu, are you free right now? I have something I’d like to talk to you about in person.”
“Right now?”
Mo Qingqiu’s tone paused for a moment, then she spoke with a cool demeanor: “Go wait for me at Nuo Nuo dessert shop.”
“Okay, I’ll head over now.”
“I was planning to go there to handle some documents anyway.”
After hanging up with Mo Qingqiu, Shen Ran let out a slow sigh.
Senior Mo Qingqiu’s tone had carried a hint of command just now.
Senior was probably arranging things for the literary and artistic union department… Had her call interrupted her?
Clutching her small bag as she hurried toward Nuo Nuo dessert shop, Shen Ran was still thinking over her words.
Though Su Yichen and Mo Qingqiu were somewhat similar, the feeling when facing them was different.
With Mo Qingqiu, Shen Ran always felt a certain pressure—not much, but it was always there, no matter the time or place.
Su Yichen was different. When he gave off pressure, it could nearly suffocate you.
With just one look, she’d become as meek as a little bunny.
But once you got familiar with him…
He was actually really easy to get along with. No arrogance, easygoing, knowledgeable, and could take any joke.
This range of highs and lows was something Shen Ran had never imagined when she met Su Yichen at Shujiao garden. It wasn’t until that night she saw him going head-to-head with Jiang Jingjie…
She almost died laughing.
It was only then that Shen Ran truly felt Su Yichen’s incredibly charismatic personality.
How was she going to explain this to Senior Qingqiu…
Just say it straight, right?
***
Half an hour later, Shen Ran arrived at Room A1 of Nuo Nuo dessert shop.
She habitually stopped at the door, raised her hand, and knocked.
The moment the knock knock knock sounded, the door swung open from the force of her knocking.
“Shen Ran, the door’s unlocked. Just come in.”
“Okay, thank you, Senior.”
Shen Ran obediently stepped inside and closed the door behind her.
She saw Mo Qingqiu sitting on the sofa. The table that had held food last night was now piled high with stacks and stacks of documents.
In the middle of the documents sat a thin, silver-gray laptop.
“Perfect timing. Help me with something.”
Mo Qingqiu casually pointed to another stack of papers on the table. “Look over those for me. If they’re fine, just sign them off.”
Shen Ran’s face showed hesitation: “I’ve never done this before. I’m afraid I’ll… mess it up, Senior.”
“Don’t worry. Those aren’t important. Just skim through them. As long as nothing’s too outrageous, it’s fine.”
“Alright.”
Since Mo Qingqiu had said so, Shen Ran couldn’t refuse.
She began helping Mo Qingqiu process the documents.
They sat there for over two hours. By the time the papers on the table were all handled, it was nearly noon.
“Thanks for the help, Shen Ran.”
Mo Qingqiu stretched her sore shoulders and smiled.
“No problem. I’m glad I could help you out.”
“I’ll have the chef from the restaurant next door whip up a few dishes and send them over. Let’s eat together, right here.”
Mo Qingqiu was clearly a VIP at Nuo Nuo dessert shop.
As she sent the message, Mo Qingqiu asked casually:
“Shen Ran, when you called me this morning, what was it you wanted?”
“Well…”
Shen Ran hesitated for a few seconds, took a deep breath, and then slowly said:
“Senior, I want to quit the music club.”
“Quit… wait.”
Mid-sentence, Mo Qingqiu stopped typing, looked up, raised an elegant eyebrow, and asked with confusion:
“You want to quit the music club? That’s simple. I’ll just make a call—”
Shen Ran bit her lip and said: “I really do want to quit.”
Just like Su Yichen on the rooftop, Mo Qingqiu seemed a bit dizzy from Shen Ran’s move.
“No, Senior, did I hear that wrong?”
“Mmm… mm.”
Mo Qingqiu pondered silently, saying nothing.
Her shimmering, peach-blossom eyes scanned Shen Ran from head to toe.
She put down her phone only after ordering the dishes, then crossed her arms over her chest.
“Quitting is fine. I can arrange that for you right away.”
“But aren’t you pursuing Jiang Jingjie anymore? I set up a few joint appearances for you two.”
“Now that you’re quitting, I’ll have to find someone else.”
Shen Ran said in an apologetic tone:
“I’m so sorry, Senior, for causing you trouble.”
“I’ve realized that Jiang Jingjie and I aren’t really a good fit.”
“Oh, so I still…”
“You’re planning to give up?”
Mo Qingqiu’s brow arched slightly as she said:
“Fine, but I’m curious what happened. What made you change your mind in such a short time?”
“Can you tell me?”
Even though Shen Ran was a minor character, even a minor role has its part to play.
Now, before the play had even begun, the actor was running off.
Mo Qingqiu wasn’t too happy about that, because it was far too dull.
“I…”
“Yeah, it’s fine.”
If it were usual, Shen Ran wouldn’t be so willing to share the details of her time with Su Yichen. But now, she didn’t think it mattered much.
After all, her purpose in seeking out both Senior Mo Qingqiu and Su Yichen had been the same.
Since she no longer planned to pursue that goal, it didn’t matter anymore.
“I went to see Su Yichen yesterday afternoon, and we talked a lot.”
“Then, in the evening, Su Yichen helped me flirt with Jiang Jingjie…”
She recounted how Su Yichen had helped her play games to catch Jiang Jingjie’s interest.
“He was really amazing. Jiang Jingjie quickly…”
Shen Ran then added:
“But during that time, I realized I still prefer spending time with someone like Su Yichen.”
“It’s so relaxing. I feel like… he’s really interesting.”
“It looks like you’ve been charmed by Su Yichen’s personality.”
When Mo Qingqiu heard this, a faint, barely perceptible smile flickered in the depths of her eyes:
“Usually, when something like this happens, it means the other person is on a much higher level than you.”
“And they’re accommodating you.”
The girl suddenly realized that things might be more interesting than she had imagined.
Maybe Shen Ran giving up on Jiang Jingjie, for the current situation…
