Hang City, Fang Chenxi’s Home
Li Qing and Fang Quan sat together on the sofa, a distance between them.
After hanging up the phone, their argument came to an abrupt halt.
They looked at each other, seemingly doubting their own ears.
“Chenxi said she has someone she likes?”
Li Qing repeated the words as if to confirm.
“Yeah.”
Fang Quan furrowed his brow and instinctively reached into his pocket, pulling out a cigarette and lighting it.
But after just one puff, under Li Qing’s glare, he snuffed it out in the ashtray.
Neither of them had any desire to argue anymore.
“When did this happen? How come I didn’t know?”
“You think I knew?”
If Fang Quan had known, he wouldn’t have arranged a blind date for Fang Chenxi.
Though he could be stubborn and wanted to plan her future development, he wasn’t unreasonable.
“So our daughter really went to Lotus City just to find a boyfriend?”
Fang Quan muttered to himself, his brow furrowing deeper as he pondered something.
“Maybe it’s a girlfriend.”
Li Qing snorted.
Fang Chenxi was free-spirited and straightforward, decisive in everything she did, and an avid sports enthusiast.
Her looks were flawless.
She wasn’t clueless about the internet.
She knew that girls with this kind of personality were the most popular among other girls.
“You have to argue with me about this too?”
Fang Quan didn’t think so.
Although the relationship between Fang Quan and Li Qing was growing increasingly tense, they both shared the same thought: keep Fang Chenxi in Hang City for her development.
With the resources they had, they could certainly ensure her future would be smooth and worry-free.
But Fang Chenxi had suddenly become rebellious, insisting on going to Lotus City.
She had argued with them and then gone alone.
Now she was giving the excuse of pursuing love.
“Maybe our daughter is still upset about that blind date you arranged last time. I told you, she’s still in high school. Why are you so anxious?”
“Are you trying to wash your hands clean of this?”
Fang Quan snorted and crossed his legs.
“You agreed to that blind date with Manager Liu’s son by default too. Besides, I did it for her own good.”
If it had worked out, he could have found a good match for Fang Chenxi and strengthened business ties between their families.
Two birds with one stone, right?
But neither side knew that Manager Liu’s son was already in a relationship.
He couldn’t be blamed for that.
Li Qing didn’t speak.
Her delicate face turned cold.
She stood up.
“I don’t have the energy to argue with you. Think about what to do.”
Fang Quan suddenly had an idea.
“At the end of this month, isn’t their school having a sports meet? Let’s go then and see for ourselves whether Chenxi was telling the truth or not.”
Li Qing didn’t respond.
She walked straight to the bedroom, leaving Fang Quan alone in the living room.
Fang Quan lit another cigarette.
Smoke rose in curling wisps.
‘This isn’t right. That’s not how it was in the original book at all!’
‘Why did Fang Chenxi suddenly blow up at her parents?’
The balcony connected to the living room, and the window screen wasn’t soundproof.
Even though Jiang Ling covered her ears, she couldn’t help overhearing parts of their conversation.
Especially:
“I came to Lotus City to find the person I love.”
‘Is Fang Chenxi’s next step going to bring her relationship with Lu Yuyao out into the open?’
Fang Chenxi walked out from the balcony and met Jiang Ling’s gaze.
Jiang Ling, deep in thought, quickly turned away, pretending she hadn’t heard anything.
But Fang Chenxi saw right through her.
“You heard that, didn’t you? Sorry you had to witness that mess.”
Fang Chenxi gave a bitter smile.
She’d lost her composure.
It wasn’t until after she’d vented her anger that she realized Jiang Ling was still sitting in the living room and must have heard everything.
“No, it’s fine.”
‘Is it too late to say I didn’t hear anything?’
Jiang Ling stammered, her hands frozen awkwardly in midair, not expecting Fang Chenxi to bring it up.
“So… want to play games?”
“Yeah, why not?”
Better to burn off bad energy with gaming than to stew in anger alone.
Fang Chenxi was genuinely angry.
The entire afternoon.
They played games for the whole afternoon.
Jiang Ling’s head was spinning.
By the end, she was even getting on the wrong champion, playing Yuumi and missing her target.
“I’m done, I’m done.”
After the last match, they’d won seventeen in a row.
Jiang Ling lay exhausted, tossing her phone onto the sofa.
All she could see were stars circling in front of her eyes.
Fang Chenxi’s anger had mostly dissipated.
She stood up and turned on the living room lights.
The room instantly brightened.
Fang Chenxi walked over to the balcony, stretched, and opened the window to let in some fresh air.
The rain was still falling, and not lightly.
Outside, the sky was dark.
It was already six o’clock.
“What do you want for dinner? I’ll order.”
Fang Chenxi took out her phone to order takeout, turning to ask Jiang Ling’s opinion.
Jiang Ling lay on the sofa for a moment, then stood up and stretched as well.
When she was sitting, the cutout areas of the maid outfit didn’t reveal much skin.
But the stretching motion pulled the fabric taut, exposing large swaths of fair flesh.
Fang Chenxi enjoyed the view.
Noticing Fang Chenxi’s gaze, Jiang Ling quickly stopped, shooting her a shy glare before heading toward the kitchen.
“Don’t order. I’ll cook tonight.”
“Huh?”
Fang Chenxi raised an eyebrow.
She’d planned to let Jiang Ling rest after playing games all afternoon, but instead, Jiang Ling volunteered to cook.
‘She’s got real maid potential.’
If Jiang Ling could hear her thoughts, she’d probably be furious.
She was thinking that since Fang Chenxi was so upset, she’d make something delicious to cheer her up.
Dinner was lavish.
Sweet and sour pork.
Scrambled eggs with tomatoes.
And sweet and sour pork ribs.
Fang Chenxi liked sweet dishes—deep-fried ones in particular—and she didn’t like soup.
Jiang Ling had noticed this through several observations.
So this meal was specially prepared for Fang Chenxi.
While Jiang Ling was cooking, Fang Chenxi went upstairs to work out.
When Jiang Ling brought the dishes to the table, Fang Chenxi came down from the second floor, drying her hair.
At the dinner table, seeing that almost every dish was to her liking, Fang Chenxi’s eyes sparkled.
She instinctively looked at the chef of the evening.
Jiang Ling turned her face away, feeling secretly proud.
‘Happy now?’
‘Since you’re happy, don’t do anything excessive tonight—’
