Maybe because the torrential rain had just ended, or perhaps because of a certain white-haired individual’s presence, the forest was unnervingly silent.
After finding a patch of ground not soaked by rainwater, Sevitis sprawled out, arms and legs spread wide.
Her chilling blood-red eyes stared blankly at the moon in the night sky.
Her heart, which had been pounding furiously from the escape, gradually calmed.
Once her body had regained some strength, Sevitis slowly lifted her head and looked around.
Eventually, her gaze locked onto a gently babbling brook not far away.
What had to come was finally here.
Though the journey had been full of ups and downs, there were some things that still needed confirmation.
Sevitis stood up and walked to a few meters from the riverbank, but she couldn’t bring herself to take another step forward, as if some fierce monster lurked in the crystal-clear water.
In reality, she had already scared away every living creature nearby.
Carefully, she placed her hands lightly on her budding, barren chest, forcibly ignoring the indescribable shame rising in her heart, and seriously felt for something.
‘Mm, it’s flat.’
That reassured her. Something this flat couldn’t possibly belong to a girl, right?
Sevitis deliberately ignored those childish little hands. She felt a bit more at ease and then strode boldly toward the river.
She took a deep breath and looked down at the reflection on the water’s surface.
It was still night, and even with the moonlight, an ordinary person could barely make out the silhouette of a petite young girl in the water.
But Sevitis, thanks to the Blood Demon’s excellent night vision, could see the reflection clearly.
On the water, the girl had long white hair falling like a waterfall, billowing freely in the night breeze, each strand seeming to shimmer faintly.
Beneath her bangs, her small, palm-sized face was pale to the point of translucence.
Her features were exquisitely delicate, as if a deity had personally carved them from the purest white jade, evoking an irresistible tenderness.
Even though she had just fallen from midair, her gothic battle dress showed no signs of damage, not even a speck of dust.
The pitch-black main color resembled solidified night, tightly hugging her petite frame, outlining a curve that was both youthful and alluring.
The inner lining of the skirt was a vivid crimson, layered like blooming spider lilies.
On her chest, a few silver cross ornaments glinted coldly in the moonlight, creating a striking visual contrast with the black fabric.
Her long, fair legs were clad in black semi-transparent thigh-high stockings, the edges bound tightly to her thighs with red ribbons, exuding a forbidden aesthetic.
Her blood-red pupils emitted an eerie glow, both bizarre and beautiful in the pitch-black night.
In her shock, the small fangs at the corners of her mouth had even forgotten to retract.
Her long, pointed ears twitched, looking very cute.
There was no doubt—the girl was not of the human race nor the elf race, but a Blood Demon of the demon race, one that struck fear into the hearts of all.
Of course, they preferred to call themselves the Blood Clan.
But this dangerous girl’s eyes were now filled with clear, visible emptiness and despair.
‘Wait… is this right?’
When she had seen it through Eulalia’s eyes before, she could still comfort herself that it was just an illusion.
But now, on this quiet, clear river surface, all she could see was reality.
“Hold on, there’s still a chance. There’s something I haven’t checked yet. Maybe only the appearance changed—it’s still there.”
The white-haired girl reached out her small hand and, with no decorum, plunged it into her skirt.
The result, of course, was empty.
…Nothing.
“Haha, it must be because this dress is too complicated. Let me try again.”
Sevitis took a deep breath and reached into her skirt once more.
…Still nothing.
‘Ahhh! She really couldn’t feel its presence anymore!’
The despair in Sevitis’s eyes grew even deeper.
She had been willing to sacrifice even her soul to survive, but no one told her she would have to lose her dignity along with it!
“Is this… the price of survival?” Sevitis murmured, dazed.
She collapsed to the ground in self-abandonment, her head drooping slightly, yet a resigned smile hung on her lips.
Her entire being seemed to burn out completely, turning into white ash.
……
However, this dejected state didn’t last long.
As her emotions gradually settled, Sevitis finally accepted reality.
Though turning into a Blood Clan and becoming a girl were undoubtedly a double blow to her, at least she was alive, right?
But accepting reality didn’t mean she would let it slide.
She knew that after being embraced by a Blood Clan, one would become a Blood Clan, but she had never heard of one’s gender changing as well!
The problem clearly had to lie with that damned Old Monster.
Though she didn’t know exactly what tricks she had pulled, it was definitely related to the “Deal” she had mentioned.
“I’ll remember this grudge.” Sevitis stomped her foot angrily, gritting her teeth.
She didn’t know if she would ever have the chance to take revenge, but that Old Monster had successfully made it onto her revenge list, right after Eulalia, solidly in second place.
As she moved, a cold touch brushed across her chest, snapping Sevitis briefly out of her anger.
She pulled the culprit out from her clothes. After seeing what it was, Sevitis was momentarily stunned.
“This thing is still here, huh.”
It was the pendant she had worn since birth. Perhaps it was left by the birth parents who had abandoned her, but she didn’t really care.
After all, the thing looked worn out and didn’t seem valuable.
Besides, she had no feelings for her so-called parents.
She would have thrown it away long ago if not for a special reason.
“Hm? Something feels off.”
Sevitis held the pendant up to the moonlight and examined it closely.
It was a silver pendant, shaped like a half-moon crescent, echoing the moon in the night sky.
“It seems brighter, and the shape is different, too.”
Sevitis was full of confusion.
Before, it had been a tattered crescent pendant.
Now it looked as if it had been refurbished—not only did it appear brand new, but its outline had also changed.
Could it be…
A bold conjecture surfaced in Sevitis’s mind.
Her blood-red eyes immediately scanned the surroundings warily.
After confirming that she was the only living creature here, she cleared her throat softly.
“Ahem.”
She stated in advance that she didn’t believe in those fantastical stories.
She was just taking an investigative approach to test it a little.
“Huh? Why has this pendant changed so much? Could it be that it’s not mine? Did I accidentally pick up the wrong one?”
“Oh dear, taking someone else’s things isn’t good, but I can’t find the owner right now. What should I do?”
“Forget it, I’ll just throw it away. What if it’s something dangerous?”
With that, Sevitis walked to the riverbank and held the pendant over the water.
Though the river wasn’t fast, it was quite deep. If something as small as a pendant fell in, it would probably be hard to retrieve.
Sevitis stared intently at the pendant in her hand, as if expecting something to happen.
But after waiting for a long time, there was still no reaction.
Unwilling to give up, she stretched her hand further over the middle of the river, her fingers slowly loosening.
If nothing unexpected happened, the pendant would fall into the river in the next second.
The pendant swayed gently with its owner’s movement.
Though it was still stained with some grime, its silver gleam was still somewhat dazzling in the night.
Beyond that, there was no other phenomenon.
Strange.
Could it be that her name was wrong? But a name like “Long Aotian” was something only the Spirit Race would use.
“I’m really going to drop it, you know.” Sevitis still wouldn’t give up, threatening again.
The night breeze had long since stopped. The leaves no longer rustled.
The only sound in the surrounding silence was the gentle flow of the river.
Finally, Sevitis silently crouched down and carefully washed the remaining stains off the pendant with river water.
Then, as if nothing had happened, she dried the pendant on her clothes.
After confirming it was completely clean, she stood up again.
Her entire movement was fluid and natural, as if she had intended to do so from the start.
But a slight blush crept across her fair little face, out of place.
Her lively eyes glanced around secretly. After confirming once more that no one had seen her, Sevitis breathed a sigh of relief.
After all, this situation was just too embarrassing.
Ahem. She was only doing it out of caution, on the off chance of confirming whether that Old Monster was actually inside the pendant.
Not because she actually believed in those storybook clichés.
Only someone like Eulalia, who was blessed by heaven from birth, would believe in such things.
Yeah, that’s right. It was all that woman’s fault.
Who told her to keep telling her all those strange stories back then?
She didn’t even know where she heard them, but she insisted on telling them to her.
What an evil woman.
