“Senior, are you ready yet?”

“Hey…” His Adam’s apple bobbed gently as his voice dropped a few notches, “Senior, you…” He suddenly stopped mid-sentence, as if unable to find the right words, looking away awkwardly while his fingers absentmindedly rubbed along his trouser seam.

A fleeting emotion flickered in his eyes.

On the other side, Chu You nervously clutched the hem of her skirt, her eyes darting away.

The morning light outside brushed past her hair, casting a faint blush on her ear.

Chu You lowered her head, lightly biting her lip—the look Lin Mo had given her when she opened the door kept replaying in her mind.

“Let’s go, senior. I’ll take you to school.”

“Eh?” Chu You ignored these unruly-looking tough girls and instead focused on a small, disheveled figure curled up in the corner of the room, her clothes torn and covered in footprints and dust.

It was the girl she had bumped into last night.

Chu You quickly stood up, pushed past the blocking girls like clearing away obstacles, and walked over to the girl, slowly crouching down.

“What are you doing here?”

“What happened to you? Did those girls bully you?”

The girl curled up in the corner trembled as she lifted her head. On her pale face, Chu You saw no change in expression at all.

The girl’s dull eyes stared at Chu You.

Her lips moved for a long while before squeezing out a faint breath.

“You should go. I’m fine.”
