After changing his clothes and putting on the pendant, Weibai rubbed his head and walked out of his room.
If he remembered correctly, Taolani was also staying at this inn.
He was now planning to go find Taolani to learn more about the situation in Labia City.
He had suffered a big loss last night.
Originally planning to trick Taolani, he ended up being counter-killed by her, pressed onto the bed and having his blood sucked by her again—a classic case of going for wool and coming home shorn.
However, after getting the answers he wanted, Weibai didn’t really mind Taolani’s behavior anymore.
After all, this Blood Demon was always like this; the more he cared, the more she’d play along.
In the battle of wits between Mo Baiwei and Taolani, Mo Baiwei had declared a complete defeat.
Since that was the case, Weibai simply gave up on managing this matter, saving himself from going up there just to give himself away for free.
There were more important things to deal with at the moment.
Weibai stood in front of Taolani’s door, gathered his thoughts for a moment, then gently knocked.
“Who is it?!”
A pleasant, girlish voice came from inside the room.
Clearly, Taolani was in.
“Me,” Weibai said curtly.
“Who are you? I don’t know you.”
Taolani’s voice came from the room again.
Hearing Taolani’s words, Weibai’s mouth twitched.
‘What is this girl up to now? Pretending not to know me, making me stand here at the door without letting me in?’
The door opened a crack.
A silver head flashed behind it before the door was slammed shut again with a “bang.”
“Who are you? Don’t stand outside my door like that, it’s scary.”
Taolani’s voice came from behind the door.
She was clearly standing right there.
That’s what she said, but Weibai didn’t detect any hint of fear in her tone.
“Stop messing around,” Weibai said in a low voice.
“Stranger man, stay away from me!”
Hearing this, Weibai fell silent.
After a moment, he slowly spoke again, “I’m Mo Baiwei.”
“Little Weiwei?!”
Taolani’s voice suddenly filled with delight.
The door was then opened.
The girl in her pajamas stood before Weibai.
She was looking up at him with a smile.
Clearly, she had known it was him; she just wanted to mess with him.
“You should have said it was Little Weiwei sooner! I thought some pervert man had his eye on me first thing in the morning, standing outside my door chattering away.”
A vein throbbed on Weibai’s forehead.
‘Why does this Blood Demon feel so… annoying? Seems like if I have time, I really need to teach her a proper lesson.’
Following Taolani into the room, Weibai casually closed the door behind him and changed into a pair of indoor slippers.
“Little Weiwei, it’s rare for you to come find me so early in the morning. Is something the matter?”
Taolani said, then suddenly her tone changed, a seductive smile appearing on her face.
“Could it be that last night wasn’t enough for you?”
Weibai’s steps toward Taolani came to an abrupt halt.
His face flushed red, and he stood still without moving.
“Oh dear, oh dear, Little Weiwei, don’t be like that.”
Seeing his reaction, Taolani giggled, then stepped forward and took Weibai’s hand, pulling him over to her bed.
“Go on, tell me, what’s up?”
“Nothing much. I just wanted to ask about the progress of your Adventurers’ Guild commission,” Weibai said, calming his emotions as he pulled over a chair and sat down.
“Oh? Is Little Weiwei concerned about me?”
Hearing this, Taolani looked at Weibai in surprise.
“Tch, if you think so, then sure,” Weibai replied, not knowing how else to deal with Taolani and speaking quite nonchalantly.
“It’s actually going okay. There are about a dozen or so sites of the Bandit Plague in total. Just yesterday, we cleared out five of their strongholds,” Taolani said.
“I heard the largest bandit stronghold has already been dealt with by The Holy See, so naturally our workload has lightened.”
“The Holy See?”
Hearing this familiar term, Weibai unconsciously repeated it.
“Little Weiwei, you couldn’t possibly not know about The Holy See, could you?”
Seeing his reaction, Taolani looked at him quizzically.
“I know,” Weibai rolled his eyes.
“Don’t treat me like an idiot, okay?”
“Then that’s fine. Actually, most of the time, it’s The Holy See that maintains order in the nations of the Short-lived Species. Things like bandit plagues, heretics, and Different Races… most of the time, The Holy See takes the lead in handling them.”
As an external contractor hired by The Holy See, Taolani had naturally received information about them beforehand.
Information sharing was a key prerequisite for cooperation.
“Actually, I don’t really care about The Holy See’s methods. I already know all this,” Weibai nodded and said.
“So that means you care about me!”
Taolani’s eyes lit up, and she said happily, blinking her long, fluttering eyelashes.
“Could you please stop flattering yourself?”
Weibai glared at Taolani with annoyance, then immediately asked the question he was most concerned about.
“While dealing with the strongholds, did you get any leads?”
“Leads? What kind of leads are you looking for, Little Weiwei?”
Taolani asked in return.
“Leads related to this Bandit Plague,” Weibai said.
“I suspect there’s someone else behind this bandit plague, using it as a pawn. They definitely have another purpose.”
Hearing Weibai say this, Taolani uncharacteristically fell silent, lowering her head to think about the matter.
A moment later, she looked up again.
The previous teasing and playfulness on her face were gone, replaced by a touch of seriousness.
“There is a mastermind behind it, but they’re hidden very well. I haven’t been able to find out which faction’s forces they belong to.”
Hearing that Taolani had a lead, Weibai immediately perked up his ears.
But when he heard she hadn’t found the person behind it either, he fell silent in thought.
“Alright, Taolani, let me tell you something,” Weibai thought for a moment and decided to tell Taolani about the Illusion.
“What is it?”
Hearing Weibai’s slightly serious tone, Taolani also became earnest.
So, Weibai told Taolani about what he encountered yesterday and explained that the reason he fainted in the bathroom was because of the Illusion.
“Besides the bandit plague, there’s actually something like this happening too?” Taolani, who clearly hadn’t encountered the Illusion, said with great surprise.
“Yes. But a little girl in the Illusion told me she didn’t know about the bandit plague,” Weibai recounted truthfully.
Everything he said was indeed true.
“So, besides the bandit plague, Labia City has another problem?”
Taolani asked solemnly.
Weibai thought for a moment, then nodded seriously.
“Yes. I think it’s necessary for me to join you all in investigating the bandit plague.”
“No!”
Contrary to Weibai’s expectations, Taolani almost immediately voiced her opposition.
“Little Weiwei, this matter is dangerous. You can’t get involved.”
“It’s fine, I—”
“No!”
Taolani’s attitude was extremely firm.
“Why?”
Weibai didn’t understand why Taolani was so adamantly against him participating in this.
“If something were to happen to you, Little Weiwei, it would be troublesome,” Taolani said.
“It’s fine. I’m strong,” Weibai said, trying to persuade her.
“I don’t believe it. You can’t even beat me. Where’s your strength?”
“Not being able to beat you is because I wasn’t going all out,” Weibai curled his lip.
He really hadn’t fought Taolani seriously.
If he had, she wouldn’t be his match.
However, Taolani clearly didn’t believe Weibai’s words.
In her view, this Little Elf was just being stubborn.
