No. 1 Teacher’s Dormitory, rooftop.
The gravely injured branch agent leaned against the corner of the wall, breathing heavily.
In front of him—a grotesquely transformed Chen Xinyu and Lu Ran were slowly closing in.
“The file says you two can still maintain your sanity, right?”
As the twisted forms of Chen Xinyu and Lu Ran stepped into a three-meter range before him, the branch agent, who had kept his head lowered all this time, suddenly looked up and spoke.
His voice was raspy from his injuries, but his tone was strangely calm, even carrying a hint of scrutiny.
“To assassinate an Executor…do you know what the penalty is under Alliance law?”
The agent continued, his gaze sweeping coldly over the two inhuman bodies and their hideous faces.
At his words, Chen Xinyu and Lu Ran paused slightly, exchanged a glance, and then both let out a strange sound, a mixture of a sneer and a harsh breath—like a laugh.
Lu Ran’s misshapen head turned toward the wounded agent, exposed gums pulled into a disturbing arc.
His voice was full of mockery and a strange sense of superiority: “Crime? Heh…we are the descendants of the new gods, pioneers on the road of evolution. The laws and accusations of outdated humanity are meaningless to us.”
Upon hearing this, the injured agent’s blood-stained brows lifted ever so slightly, and a baffling expression crossed his face, as if he had just heard the most ridiculous joke.
“Huh?”
His tone was tinged with incredulous sarcasm.
“You really are out of your mind! Ugly as hell, and you call yourself a god’s descendant? Did the tainted aura fry your brain?”
“Still got a sharp tongue even on death’s door,” Chen Xinyu, beside him, used her keratin-covered, backward-bending hand to idly toy with the knife-like fingers of her other hand, producing a teeth-grinding scraping sound.
She sneered, crimson eyes gleaming with a cat-and-mouse kind of playfulness: “Trying to keep us talking so you can buy time for backup? Tsk tsk, what a pity…”
She leaned forward slightly, drawing out her words on purpose, a cruel delight in her voice—
“You probably…won’t live to see it~”
The wind howled on the rooftop, swirling up clouds of dust.
Chen Xinyu’s lips split into a horrifying grin, thick black liquid oozing continuously from between her teeth.
“But don’t worry, your colleagues might end up worse than you.”
“Surrounded and killed by those pathetic abominations…”
She bent down slowly, tilting her head as she looked at the branch agent, her tone vicious.
“How about you beg me? I won’t kill you just yet—I’ll take you to see your coworkers torn apart, let you listen to their screams…”
“And in the end, I’ll strip you down to your skeleton, piece by piece, and display you in my collection room. How about it?”
At this, the branch agent—who seemed barely alive, slumped against the wall—just barely lifted his eyelids and responded in a lazy, almost monotone voice, as if reading lines without care—“Wow—so scary, I’m terrified, really.”
A mocking smirk slowly stretched across his lips, as if he’d heard the world’s funniest joke.
Next, he began to calmly list off a string of names, each one landing like a heavy hammer on the hearts of Chen Xinyu and Lu Ran: “…those Eastern European mutated forms rushing to their deaths, the Fourth Calamity【Twilight King’s Rider】Kiran Bisca, those few notorious Sima bastards under his command, oh right—”
He deliberately paused, sweeping his gaze across Chen Xinyu’s now-stiffened face, and added the final name: “And that gecko spirit from Mirror Lake. Are those bottom-feeding, good-for-nothing trash really what you’re counting on?”
As soon as the words left his mouth, the twisted and eerie smile on Chen Xinyu’s face froze in an instant, as if encased by invisible frost.
…
Lu Ran’s brows furrowed tightly as well.
The murderous intent in his scarlet eyes remained, but deep inside, a trace of uncontrollable shock and doubt flashed—how does this guy know so much?
A powerful sense of foreboding welled up in his heart.
“Stop wasting time!”
Lu Ran immediately looked to Chen Xinyu, barking coldly, “The Professor is waiting for us. Let’s finish him off now!”
“What a shame…” Chen Xinyu squeezed the words through her teeth.
Completely enraged, she licked her lips, the black, viscous liquid dripping down, and in an instant, her figure blurred—becoming a shadow too swift for the naked eye, lunging straight at the agent.
In the next moment, the shadow swallowed the agent’s entire vision.
Chen Xinyu’s claws—sharp as knives, covered in keratin—screamed through the air toward his throat!
She was no longer holding back—she meant to kill with one strike!
Yet at this critical moment, the wounded branch agent showed no fear.
That infuriating smirk was still plastered on his face.
He even raised his eyes, meeting Chen Xinyu’s gaze, which brimmed with murderous cruelty, and taunted, “You’re so ugly it drains SAN points.”
Just as Chen Xinyu’s fingertips were about to graze the skin of his throat—a sudden anomaly!
Chen Xinyu’s pupils shrank to pinpoints.
Her pounce froze in mid-air.
All she felt was a sudden lightness in her right shoulder, a sense of loss impossible to describe.
The right arm that had just been about to tear out her target’s throat—in the blink of an eye…had vanished?!
Not cut off, not smashed—vanished, as if an invisible eraser had wiped it out of existence.
The break at her shoulder was smooth as a mirror, so sudden that even the pain hadn’t caught up.
One second later—
…
A torrent of thick, foul-smelling black blood erupted from the smooth break like a long-suppressed fountain.
“AAARRRGH—!!!”
The delayed agony and a terror beyond words swallowed Chen Xinyu.
She let out a shrill, blood-curdling scream, clutching her spurting shoulder with her remaining hand, retreating even faster than she’d attacked, and tumbled back to land beside the equally shocked Lu Ran.
The two stared at the figure still leaning by the wall, as if facing their greatest enemy, eyes filled with disbelief and a bone-chilling dread.
In the next moment, something happened that made their scalps prickle.
The branch agent—who had been gasping, covered in blood, looking half-dead—brushed the dust off his pants in a brisk, casual motion and stood up easily, as if nothing had happened.
Not a trace of weakness or pain was left on his face.
Instead, there was a rakish, infuriating grin.
“Let me introduce myself—” he said, smiling, his tone light and breezy.
Before the words were finished, his facial muscles and bones began to writhe and shift, like kneaded putty.
In under three seconds, the face belonging to the unknown agent was gone, replaced by the one the Professor had warned them never to face directly!
The branch agent casually tugged off his wig and tossed it aside.
A glaring flash of red, wavy hair—like burning flames—stabbed into the depths of Chen Xinyu and Lu Ran’s terrified, contracted pupils.
He twisted his neck with a satisfying pop, that signature, dangerous yet playful smile on his face as he addressed the two, who were dumbfounded.
“Allow me to introduce myself—the most devoted of the Northern Bureau—”
“Gu. Qian. Cheng.”
He dipped his head slightly, as if greeting old friends.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you both~”
