The sky had just begun to lighten as soft morning light filtered into the dormitory hallway.
The golden-haired elf yawned and pushed open her door, stepping out.
Just then, the door next to hers also swung open, revealing a lazy figure with black-and-white hair shuffling out.
“Good morning, Little Se Ge.”
“Oh, morning, Su Ling.” Se Ge rubbed her messy hair and replied automatically.
“Huh?” Se Ge’s eyes snapped wide as she pointed at the person who had just emerged from the adjacent room. “Why the hell are you walking out of a room?!”
“What are you talking about? When you wake up, you leave the room—where else would you come out from?” Su Ling rubbed her butt, still half-asleep.
“At least pull up your pants before you come out!”
At her reminder, Su Ling looked down and only then realized her pants weren’t properly fastened.
She reached down and found that her two sore mounds—still aching from the beating—were wrapped in a soft towel.
Any normal girl would have shrieked, but Su Ling just stared at the knot around her waist, her eyes lighting up.
“Whoa, what a cute bow.”
She admired it happily for a moment, then slowly reached down to grab her waistband and pull up her pants.
“That’s weird… I’m sure I didn’t dispel the magic last night…” Se Ge poked her head into the hallway in disbelief. The vines she had personally released were all gone, with not even a scrap or trace left on the floor.
“Why is it so noisy so early…”
The black-haired girl yawned as she walked out of the innermost room. With just one glance, Sevitis guessed what had happened.
“Come clean! How did you break my magic? That was my best move!”
“Even if you ask me that… I don’t know. When I woke up, I was just lying nicely in bed.” Su Ling looked completely innocent.
“Alright, stop arguing.”
Sevitis stepped between them and interjected lazily, “Maybe you ate the vines as a midnight snack last night. With your teeth, it’s not impossible.”
That was obviously a lie. No matter how good that cow’s teeth were, she couldn’t have eaten every last shred.
Sevitis herself hadn’t bothered to let anyone out last night, and Se Ge, as the “attacker,” wouldn’t suddenly have a change of heart in the middle of the night.
Since neither of them had done it, the identity of the anonymous benefactor who did a good deed without leaving a name was obvious.
“Tch, miscalculation. Guess I’ll have to stuff her mouth with something else next time…” Se Ge muttered, already scheming.
Meanwhile, Su Ling, completely unaware of what awaited her, suddenly sniffed the air hard.
“It smells so good! Something delicious!”
Her eyes lit up, and she leaped straight off the second-floor railing.
“What are you dreaming about? Who would cook for you at this hour…”
Se Ge started to mock her, but as she glanced down, she saw the dining table on the first floor actually laid out with a steaming, hearty breakfast.
“…Wait, for real?”
“Whoa! Such a feast!” Su Ling drooled.
Se Ge turned to Sevitis in shock, who only shrugged innocently and shook her head.
“Hold on!” Seeing Su Ling reach out to grab food, Se Ge rushed downstairs and blocked her. “Don’t eat yet! Breakfast suddenly appearing out of nowhere this early—don’t you think that’s weird?”
“Is it?” Su Ling blinked, a pastry already an inch from her mouth. Then realization dawned. “Oh! I get it! Little Se Ge, you want some too, right? Why didn’t you say so?”
“Here, ah—I’ll feed you—”
“That’s not what I meant!” Se Ge snatched the pastry away from Su Ling’s face. “Haven’t you considered that the food might have been tampered with?!”
“What’s there to be afraid of? Maybe the Conch Shell Girl came to repay a favor.” Sevitis shuffled down the stairs in her slippers.
“Boss, what’s a Conch Shell Girl?”
“Basically… a mysterious girl who sneaks into your home when you’re out and does chores and cooks for you. I only heard it in a story before, though. Who knows if she really exists?”
“How could a creature like that possibly exist?!”
On their very first day in the dorm, Se Ge had already felt deeply that her common sense could never keep up with the thought processes of her two eccentric roommates.
“Relax, I already checked the food with my ability. It’s fine—just eat.”
Sevitis didn’t even need to say it; Su Ling’s mouth was already sweeping through the food like a tornado.
“Mmm! The Conch Shell Girl is such a good cook! Even better than my mom’s!”
Watching that cow’s hands move so fast they left afterimages, Se Ge’s eye twitched. But her cautious nature still made her hesitate. “But…”
Sevitis pulled out a chair, sat down, propped her chin on one hand, and tilted her head slightly.
She blinked her big innocent eyes at Se Ge and said lightly, “What? Can it be that our noble elf lady can’t stomach such a lavish meal?”
“Urk—”
“Who said that?! I’ll show you right now!” To prove herself, Se Ge shoved the food in her hand into her mouth.
Sevitis glanced sideways at the slightly open door on the second floor, where a pink fingertip was visible.
As if realizing it had been spotted, the door quickly closed again. Sevitis chuckled and looked away.
‘Looks like this dorm is full of weirdos, but none of them are bad.’
So there was no need to consider changing rooms.
But when she looked back at the table, the food had already been devoured by the two girls who had somehow gotten into a competition.
“Hey! I haven’t even had a single bite! You two leave some for me!”
……
As days passed, the dorm members quickly got along.
Well, physically “got along.”
Several thick vines writhed wildly behind the elf girl, whipping around the living room.
“Stop right there! I’m going to teach you a lesson today, you cow!”
“It was just one bottle of your milk! I’ll find a way to pay you back, okay?!” Su Ling jumped and dodged the vines, circling the sofa.
“And besides, you won’t lose any chest size from missing one bottle!”
“Shut up! And ‘one bottle’? You’ve been stealing one from me every single meal!”
The black-haired girl sat upright on the sofa, her long side ponytail falling from her chest to her waist.
In just a few days of living together, she had already grown used to this daily farce that played out in various forms.
She leaned sideways, nimbly dodging a stray vine, while her hand holding the brush didn’t pause for a second, still focused on painting the scenery outside the window.
Her ability to adapt to chaotic environments had been honed to perfection.
Of course, she wasn’t the only one improving. The “Conch Shell Girl” working behind the scenes had made the most progress.
Sevitis discreetly glanced up at the second floor.
The little purple-haired girl was squatting by the railing, thoroughly enjoying the martial arts comedy downstairs.
Even though she had to clean up after the two goofballs every night, there wasn’t a trace of impatience on her face.
The little purple dragon hugged her knees, her delicate face resting on her arms, her eyes squeezed into crescent moons of joy.
From daring only to peek through a crack behind the door at first, to now squatting openly in the hallway and watching the show—she had taken a whole meter outward.
A truly heartwarming progress.
Now, even when a lavish breakfast appeared on the table every morning without fail, Se Ge no longer freaked out.
After all, with a little thought, it was easy to guess the “Conch Shell Girl’s” true identity.
The only one in the whole dorm still believing in that myth was Su Ling, the dumb cow.
She had even sworn just two nights ago that she would get up early and personally thank the “Conch Shell Girl.”
Sevitis hadn’t even bothered to talk her out of it, because the cow had lived up to everyone’s expectations—even with ten alarms set, she absolutely could not wake up.
Looking back at the past few days, Sevitis’s daily routine had been very regular:
Wake up, wash up, eat, paint, eat, supervise the two idiots cleaning the dishes and the bathroom to lighten the cute “Conch Shell Girl’s” workload, take a bath, sleep…
For someone who had long been used to solitude, this was the first time Sevitis felt that this kind of homely daily life… wasn’t bad.
Even if it was noisy, having some liveliness wasn’t so bad.
This sense of peace felt like returning to those short but bright days at the orphanage…
With the vines no longer interfering, Sevitis’s painting progressed much faster.
She added the final stroke to the last halo of light, set down the finished picture with satisfaction, stood up to smooth the wrinkles on her clothes, and tied her black hair into a new style.
“Alright, let her off for today.” Sevitis interrupted the one-sided beating. “The opening ceremony’s about to start. If we don’t leave now, we’ll all be late.”
“Hmph! If I catch you stealing again, just you wait!” Se Ge glared at Su Ling, then made her vines slap the cow’s plump butt one more time.
“Wahhh—!”
Su Ling struggled in midair, but to no avail, and was dragged out of the dorm.
Walking down the corridor, Sevitis squinted against the bright sunlight outside. “The sun’s pretty strong today… Let’s take it slow.”
“Huh? If the sun’s strong, shouldn’t we walk faster? And weren’t you the one saying we’d be late?”
“Can’t help it. I’m not fond of sunlight.”
“Besides, if the light is too harsh… I’m afraid our shadows won’t keep up with our footsteps.”
After the three left the room, an inky blackness like water slowly flowed down from the second floor into the empty living room.
The purple-haired girl, Luo Tong, silently emerged from the shadows. She walked over to the sofa and quietly gazed at Sevitis’s painting left behind.
Then, just as the dorm door was about to close completely, she dissolved into a light shadow and slipped out through the crack.
Click.
The spacious dorm finally fell silent.
Only the painting left on the sofa swayed gently in the sunlight, its delicate colors depicting the academy’s grand and tranquil scenery.
In that vast sky hung two equally dazzling suns.
