“Senior, let’s go check out the haunted house!”
“Senior, that big pendulum looks fun—let’s ride it.”
“Senior, that little cat is so cute, come take a picture!”
Hua Manyue dragged Ling Cheng all over the amusement park, trying to stretch time until 7 PM. After finishing each attraction, she anxiously checked her watch.
Watching the sun slowly sink, she kept muttering in her heart: ‘Faster, just a little faster.’
“Let’s take a break…” Ling Cheng looked at his energetic junior beside him and couldn’t hold out any longer, panting heavily.
Having played over twenty rides with her all afternoon, plus lack of sleep, he was now exhausted and gasping for air.
“Sorry, Senior…” Hua Manyue felt embarrassed seeing Ling Cheng so tired and scratched her head sheepishly.
“It’s fine. How about we sit in that fast food restaurant for a bit?” Ling Cheng didn’t think much of it and pointed to a nearby fast food joint. He figured they could rest and grab something to eat to regain energy.
“Okay! Senior is so gentle!” Hua Manyue naturally wouldn’t refuse—this was a great chance to kill time.
Ding! Detected Mission Objective: Hua Manyue’s Satisfaction Increased. Stage 2 Reward: ¥10,000. Additional Reward: Ten Minutes of Good Luck. Remaining stages: 4. Keep it up!
As Hua Manyue broke into a smile, the system reward dropped into his account.
Ling Cheng couldn’t help scratching his head. ‘What does “good luck” mean? Does it mean I should go buy a lottery ticket right now?’
While he was thinking, they entered the fast food restaurant.
Right next to the restaurant sat a lottery machine, with a sign saying that in celebration of the park’s Fireworks Festival, every customer who spent at least ¥30 could draw once.
‘This is the perfect chance to test that luck,’ Ling Cheng thought. After buying their meal, he decisively chose to draw.
The staff member opened the slip and looked astonished.
“Congratulations, sir! You’ve won the hidden grand prize—a five-person, three-day, two-night luxury seaside vacation package.” The staff applauded as they announced the prize.
“Senior’s luck is amazing!” Hua Manyue couldn’t help being impressed. She had only drawn a “Thanks for Playing,” and the contrast was huge.
As Ling Cheng accepted the vacation voucher, Hua Manyue instinctively wondered who he would go with. ‘He’ll probably go with his girlfriend, Senior An Xin.’
‘If only I could travel with Senior too…’
Meanwhile, Ling Cheng’s mind was racing: ‘Should I dash to a lottery shop right now and buy a ticket?’
But when he checked his phone map, the nearest shop was ten kilometers away—no time at all.
He sighed deeply, tucked the voucher into his chest pocket, and told himself to stay calm.
“Senior, your luck is way too good!” After he sat down, Hua Manyue exclaimed again.
“Maybe…” Ling Cheng was still mourning the five-million grand prize he felt he’d lost.
“Senior seems a little down. Hey, you should be happy at an amusement park!”
Seeing his worried expression, Hua Manyue somehow reached out and cupped his cheeks, looking at him tenderly.
“Right, right.” With a beautiful girl so close, Ling Cheng got flustered.
“Good, you’re back to normal! There are fireworks in half an hour—want to watch them together?” Seeing his reaction, Hua Manyue pretended to casually eat her original fried chicken.
Inside, she was a storm: ‘Why did I suddenly reach for his face? Did I seem weird?’
“Fireworks, sounds good. I want to see what this park’s Fireworks Festival is all about anyway.” Ling Cheng sipped his cola and added, “But shouldn’t fireworks festivals be in July or August? Why have one in April or May?”
“Ha… from what I know,” Hua Manyue lowered her voice, “it’s probably late April to early May to catch the Golden Week crowd. And they’ll have a Midsummer Festival in July and August. More events mean more money, right?”
Still, Hua Manyue was secretly thrilled—without all these events, it wouldn’t be so easy to watch fireworks with her most admired senior.
“That’s a pretty dark reason…”
But when it was almost time for the fireworks, they boarded the Ferris wheel together.
“You know, when you go on a date with someone you like, there won’t necessarily be a fireworks show,” Ling Cheng said, sitting across from her as the wheel slowly turned.
“It’s okay. Didn’t you say there’s still the Midsummer Festival later? If that person would be willing to come with me then…” A hint of sadness flickered in Hua Manyue’s eyes.
‘After all, watching fireworks together again… that’s impossible. A dating sim can’t last that long.’
“I see. We…” Ling Cheng was about to find another topic when a violent tremor shook the cabin. Then all the lights on the Ferris wheel went out.
Panicked screams erupted from all around.
“Senior!” Hua Manyue didn’t scream, but her voice was tight with fear.
“I’m here. It’s probably just a technical glitch.” Ling Cheng kept reassuring her, though he was equally nervous inside.
They were at the highest point of the Ferris wheel. A sudden outage in the dark—impossible not to be tense.
“But but…” Her voice trembling, Hua Manyue rushed to his side and hugged him tightly.
“It’s okay, it’s okay,” Ling Cheng repeated awkwardly, patting her back.
He remembered he had a girlfriend, so he didn’t dare hug back. But in the pitch-black, he also didn’t dare push her away. He just stood stiff as a statue, arms pressed to his sides, letting her cling to him.
“It’s been five minutes and still not fixed. Maybe we’ll die together today, Senior!” Seeing no reaction, Hua Manyue only hugged tighter.
Just as Ling Cheng was about to say something, another violent jolt shook the wheel. This time Hua Manyue was genuinely scared and let out a cute whimper.
“Ahhh! We’re going to die! Senior, I love you!” Amid the surrounding screams, she blurted out her true feelings.
But after the violent tremor, the Ferris wheel resumed normal operation and the lights came back on.
Under the renewed light, their eyes met. Hua Manyue saw herself still hugging him tightly, tears in her eyes.
Embarrassment hit her so hard she wanted to jump out of the cabin and elbow the concrete ground.
But right then, fireworks bloomed right beside them, drawing their attention.
Gorgeous sparks burst in the night sky, countless bits of light cascading down. Yet the girl couldn’t spare a glance for that beauty—because in her heart, fireworks had just exploded in that very moment.
