Holy water! The legendary liquid capable of forcing demons to reveal their true forms and burning unholy existences!
With this, she would surely be able to expose Eliana’s true identity as a demon in front of everyone. When that happened, the maid would be left to face the onslaught of the church’s Holy Knights!
At the thought, the corners of Eruse’s mouth twitched upward, nearly impossible to suppress.
“Let’s go, Eliana. It looks lively over there. Let’s go see!”
“Miss, perhaps we should skip it. Your clothes will get soaked, and the Madam will surely punish you if she sees you,” Eliana said after a brief moment of hesitation.
“Oh, it’s fine. You know my clothes are made of waterproof fabric, Eliana.”
Eruse’s tone became more insistent. In her mind, the demon’s attempt to talk her out of it was proof that she was terrified—too scared to touch the holy water!
This was a golden opportunity. She absolutely would not let Eliana escape.
With that thought, Eruse took the initiative to grab Eliana’s small hand once again.
“Miss, you—”
“Oh, just come on! Stop complaining.”
In the square, cheers and screams erupted one after another. More water balloons arched through the air, their crystalline droplets shimmering under the sunlight.
Eruse almost held her breath, stealing glances at Eliana beside her from time to time.
Although the maid uniform was also waterproof, Eliana’s arms and face were completely exposed.
As long as she was hit on her bare skin, the plan would succeed!
Eruse intentionally slowed her pace, allowing the surrounding water balloons to pelt them. She waited for that characteristic *sizzle* of burning flesh, the maid’s scream of agony, or the moment her human disguise shattered.
However, nothing happened.
Facing the flying water balloons, Eliana merely widened her calm eyes slightly. She then quickly stepped forward, using her own body to subtly shield Eruse as if to ward off any potential “attacks.”
Despite her efforts, several splashing droplets landed on Eliana’s dark hair, her slender neck, and other exposed areas. Some even splashed across her smooth face.
There was no smoke, no charred marks, and not even a hint of discomfort on her expression. The droplets simply slid down her skin, looking as natural as they did on anyone else.
“Be careful, Miss.”
Eliana didn’t even seem flustered as she pulled out a delicate, lace-edged handkerchief. She gently wiped the water from Eruse’s face, her voice full of helpless resignation.
“Honestly, your hair is all wet.”
Eruse stood frozen on the spot, allowing Eliana to wipe her face. At this moment, her entire body felt chilled—colder than if she had been doused in ice water.
‘Why? Why didn’t the holy water work? Is this demon so powerful that even the church’s holy water is ineffective? Or… is she not a demon at all?’
‘No! Impossible! The hypnosis, that inhuman strength, and that thick, black malice… Eliana is absolutely a demon! But why…’
Eliana’s fingers were warm and gentle. The handkerchief carried a faint fragrance as it meticulously wiped Eruse’s forehead and cheeks.
This gentle act of service was so natural, yet it caused the chill in the depths of Eruse’s heart to grow wildly.
“How can it be…”
She murmured unconsciously, her gaze locked onto Eliana’s damp skin. It was as pristine as ever, appearing even more fair and delicate under the sheen of the water.
“Hmm? Miss, what did you say?”
Eliana tilted her head slightly, her dark eyes reflecting Eruse’s soul-shaken face. She seemed completely unaware of anything being amiss, focusing entirely on her young mistress.
“You look pale. Were you frightened? We should leave this place quickly.”
Just then, an exceptionally large water balloon flew in from behind them, looking as though it would strike Eliana directly in the back of the head!
Eruse’s heart suddenly constricted. This was the final chance!
However, it was as if Eliana had eyes in the back of her head. At the very moment the balloon was about to touch her hair, she leaned over with perfect naturalness, pretending to smooth out a wrinkle in Eruse’s dress.
The water balloon grazed her hair and crashed onto the stone pavement with a *splat*, spraying a fountain of crystalline droplets.
It was a perfect coincidence—perfect enough to drive one to despair.
“Oh, how dangerous.”
Eliana stood up straight and patted away non-existent dust from her hands. The corners of her lips curled into a faint, indecipherable arc.
“Miss, we really must go. Look, your shoes have been splashed.”
Eruse looked down stiffly at the few water spots on her exquisite shoes. Indeed, her shoes were wet, but Eliana… the being she was certain was a demon… didn’t show a single trace of being burned by holy water.
‘Could I really be wrong? Were all those suspicions and tests just my own delusions?’
No. A more terrifying thought suddenly took hold of her. ‘Is it possible the holy water concentration in those balloons was too low, or that they were just filled with ordinary water?!’
Right then, a shout came from behind them.
“Holy water personally blessed by the Pope! Only five gold coins per balloon! Don’t miss out, everyone…”
“I’ll take one!”
Before Eliana could react, Eruse had already rushed over.
She didn’t care anymore. She was going all in. Today, she would definitely force this demon, Eliana, to show her true colors!
Emptying what little remained of her personal funds, Eruse successfully obtained a water balloon filled with holy water.
Next, she just had to hit Eliana accurately, and it would be over for her!
Eruse held the heavy water balloon in both hands, feeling its cool, soft texture against her palms.
The sunlight filtered through the translucent wall of the balloon, reflecting the resolute fire burning in her eyes.
This was the final chance. Holy water personally blessed by the Pope would definitely succeed!
“Miss?”
Eliana’s call came from a few steps away, carrying its usual tone of gentle concern.
“What did you buy? We should hurry and get away from this crowd.”
Eruse took a deep breath and turned around, forcing a smile onto her face.
“Eliana, look at this water balloon. Isn’t it beautiful? I want to see how it feels!”
Before her voice had even faded, she raised her arm. Using every ounce of her strength, she hurled the water balloon—the vessel of all her hopes and fears—directly at Eliana’s chest!
Time seemed to stretch into infinity. The water balloon sliced through the air toward Eliana. The maid stood her ground, making no move to dodge. Not even an expression of surprise surfaced on her face.
She simply watched the balloon fly toward her, a trace of playfulness flickering in her eyes.
*Splash!*
The water balloon hit its mark perfectly. It exploded against Eliana’s plain maid dress in a burst of crystalline water. The holy water splashed in every direction, soaking her bodice and arms, and even a few droplets landed on her cheeks.
Eruse held her breath, her beautiful eyes wide as she waited for the scene she had envisioned: rising black smoke, corroding skin, and the agonizing wails of a demon…
However, there was nothing.
The holy water simply flowed and dripped like ordinary water, soaking into the fabric of the maid uniform and leaving dark wet marks on the stone floor.
“Miss… do you think I am a demon?”
