The time goes back to the early morning of the second day, when Yi Mo had finished following the Ordinary Maiden Village Chief and was carefully heading toward the Village Entrance.
He happened to discover Taoqimao hiding behind a small thatched hut, secretly watching him.
“Hey, Taoqimao, those white shoes of yours are sticking out. Stop hiding.”
Taoqimao froze when she heard him.
Startled, she jumped and tried to run, but Yi Mo blocked her path.
Having been stopped by Yi Mo, Taoqimao looked like a child who had done something wrong.
She kept her head down, not daring to look at him.
Yi Mo leaned over and tilted his head, carefully inspecting Taoqimao’s face from below.
The dark circles under her eyes were prominent, and her face was quite pale.
It was obvious she hadn’t slept well.
He couldn’t help but ask, “Did you stay up all night?”
Taoqimao kept her head lowered and answered cautiously, “Well… I couldn’t sleep…”
“That… I didn’t follow you on purpose…”
“It’s just, I… I was feeling really restless…”
“When I saw I could go out, I wanted to take a walk to clear my head…”
“I happened to see Brother Shiba Daye go out too, following someone…”
“I was going to come out a bit later.”
“But… I was a little curious about what you were doing so early… I hesitated, but I still came out…”
“And… I only just came out and got caught by you…”
Taoqimao’s defensive display was quite cute.
She rubbed the hem of her white short-sleeved shirt with both hands, her head hanging low, refusing to meet Yi Mo’s eyes.
After thinking for a moment, Yi Mo said in a calm tone, “I came out for a morning jog. I just happened to notice someone else out earlier than me, so I wanted to follow them and see.”
“Sigh, it turns out my physical fitness is just too poor. I lost them.”
“If that person was a Werewolf, wouldn’t that be a huge loss?”
“You… you don’t suspect I’m a Werewolf, do you?”
After Yi Mo finished speaking, he stared blankly at Taoqimao.
Taoqimao quickly looked up to explain, “No, no, no… how could I!”
“I believe Brother Shiba Daye is a good person!”
“I really don’t suspect Brother Shiba Daye. You’re the Hunter; I believe you!”
Hearing this, Yi Mo nodded.
“That’s good!”
“Looking at those dark circles, you must have been worried about being knifed by the Werewolves and didn’t sleep all night, right?”
“Oh, go back and sleep for a bit. The Werewolves shouldn’t be able to knife anyone else for now. Don’t worry!”
Just like that, Yi Mo coaxed and deceived Taoqimao until she returned to her Thatched Hut before he continued his movements.
Yi Mo had been very careful while following the Ordinary Maiden, fearing that he might be followed by others.
His gaze had constantly scanned the surroundings, with the small thatched huts being his primary focus.
Naturally, he had noticed Taoqimao.
He knew that when she saw him leave the house, she hadn’t actually followed him at first.
Everything she said was likely true.
After sending her away, he rubbed his brow and muttered to himself, ‘This little Werewolf’s mental fortitude is too poor.’
‘I really wouldn’t have the heart to vote her out today.’
‘Besides… she probably wouldn’t be voted out anyway… instead, I’d just be targeted by the Werewolves…’
‘It’s really difficult. I’ll have to try later and see if she’s my girlfriend.’
Once Yi Mo confirmed that Taoqimao wouldn’t come out to follow him again, he finally made his way carefully toward the entrance of The Village.
After crouching there for 10 minutes, he finally made a major discovery!
At the iron gate of The Village, two men, one old and one young, actually appeared.
One was carrying two bamboo baskets, and the other was carrying one.
They were here to deliver food to the village!
Yi Mo watched as they opened the gate to The Village.
After placing the three bamboo baskets on the ground, they were about to lock the gate and leave.
He quickly ran out.
Hey!
Yi Mo let out a shout that wasn’t too loud.
The older man didn’t react much, slowly looking up at Yi Mo.
On the other hand, the younger man was startled and immediately raised the Hunting Rifle slung over his back, aiming it straight at Yi Mo.
Yi Mo raised his hands in a gesture of surrender and walked over.
When the older man saw it was Yi Mo, he quickly pushed the young man’s barrel down, pointing it toward the ground to prevent an accidental discharge.
Then he said respectfully, “Oh, it’s the Village Chief! You’re out early!”
The young man added, “Sorry, sorry! Terribly sorry! There have been Werewolves around lately; it was just a reflex!”
Yi Mo replied that it was fine while walking toward the village gate that had already been unlocked.
However, he was unsuccessful and received a warning from the System.
As expected, one cannot leave The Village.
Yi Mo looked at the two of them, wanting to give them a smile, but unfortunately, his facial paralysis made it impossible.
He could only try to make his voice sound a bit gentler.
“Thanks for the hard work, you two. Delivering food to us this early!”
Yesterday, Yi Mo had felt that the placement of the food was suspicious.
If the System was refreshing it, there was really no need for it to be here.
He suspected the existence of NPCs.
Judging by the temperature of the food, he guessed someone came to deliver it in the morning.
So he set an alarm and came out to stake out the area very early.
As expected, he really did encounter NPCs.
Yes, NPCs.
Yi Mo didn’t think there were any other players.
After all, the player count clearly stated there were only twelve people in this game.
Yi Mo had also kept a small secret.
Yesterday, he had told everyone else that the food was refreshed by the System.
This meant that, barring any accidents, he was the first player to know that NPCs existed in this game—and possibly the only player to know.
Yi Mo was a professional gaming vtb and didn’t believe the existence of NPCs was meaningless.
At the very least, in this game of Werewolf Kill, how could NPCs who deliver food be meaningless?
Would the System do something so redundant?
It was possible, but the probability was low!
After figuring this out, Yi Mo began trying to contact the NPCs to see if he could get any useful information.
Hearing his words, the middle-aged NPC quickly waved his hand and said politely, “What are you saying, Village Chief? With the history between our two villages, delivering food is a small matter.”
“Besides, since Werewolves have snuck into your village, you all need to focus on finding them!”
Yi Mo heard this, exchanged a few pleasantries, and then leaned in closer to whisper, “Mister, do you know who the Werewolves are in our village?”
The middle-aged NPC frowned upon hearing this, appearing to be deep in thought.
Yi Mo saw this and thought, ‘Oh boy, looks like there’s hope.’
He quickly added, “It’s fine, just speak freely. Don’t worry about being wrong!”
“I’m just using it as a reference for the sake of the villagers!”
The middle-aged NPC quickly said, “Oh, who doesn’t know how hard you work, Village Chief? I heard others say that three Werewolves have snuck into your village!”
Yi Mo: “Yeah, yeah. Do you know who they are?”
Middle-aged NPC: “Well…”
“How the hell would I know? If I knew, wouldn’t I have brought people to help you catch them already?!”
“Sigh, you have to work hard on this yourself, Village Chief. Our Village Chief said we definitely can’t interfere!”
“Our Village Chief… he’s a coward, you know.”
Listening to the middle-aged man’s dramatic pauses—that tone that made it seem like he knew only to tell you he didn’t—Yi Mo really wanted to punch him.
But, putting aside the fact that Yi Mo didn’t know if he could attack NPCs, even if he could, with his small stature, the other guy could probably beat him with one hand tied behind his back…
Yi Mo grimaced and looked the middle-aged NPC up and down for a long time.
“Do you know who Cupid is?”
The middle-aged man froze, and a strange light flickered in his eyes as he looked at Yi Mo.
Yi Mo saw that there might be hope and quickly followed up with more questions.
In the end, the NPC hesitated for a long time before saying something that nearly made Yi Mo explode with anger.
“What the hell is a Cupid?”
‘Ah, this…’
Yi Mo finally saw through it.
The NPCs in the Death Game had inherited the System’s twisted sense of humor perfectly.
They insisted on creating suspense and using dramatic pauses.
Essentially, they gave you a glimmer of hope and then told you nothing.
But Yi Mo wasn’t about to give up that easily.
He continued to press, “Do you know who the Thief is?”
Middle-aged NPC: “Holy crap, your village is a mess. There’s even a Thief?”
Yi Mo: “Who in the village has the worst relationships, or has issues, or is flirting?”
The middle-aged NPC’s gaze became suggestive.
“Sigh, Village Chief, don’t you have any self-awareness?”
“You guys are almost beyond saving. Isn’t it better to focus on the Werewolves?”
Yi Mo covered his forehead.
‘Uh…’
“Fine, forget it. I realize now you don’t know anything.”
“One last question. Do you know who the Witch and the Prophet are?”
The middle-aged NPC replied with a serious expression, “Village Chief, you’re so old-fashioned! What era is this? You still believe in those things?”
“Oh, it’s not advisable, not advisable at all!”
“Only weapons can defeat werewolves!”
Yi Mo was stunned.
He wondered if this meant he could use weapons to fight the Werewolves.
But… he remembered the rules didn’t say that.
He opened the System rule page, and the clear rules appeared before his eyes.
[3. The Werewolf camp may kill one player late at night based on the System’s prompts. Other camps cannot use ordinary attacks against non-designated players outside of Punishment Time.]
Yi Mo had always felt this rule was very problematic.
What did it mean that other camps couldn’t use “ordinary attacks” against non-designated players outside of Punishment Time?
Earlier, Yi Mo had thought it referred to the skills of those in a God Position.
But now, he felt that the word “ordinary” might be a huge issue.
Yi Mo stared blankly at the Hunting Rifle on the Hunter’s back.
He wondered if he had that rifle and used it to attack other players, would it count as an ordinary attack?
However, if attacking was possible, wouldn’t this game become unbalanced?
This hypothesis could be said to directly affect the entire game.
If it were possible, as long as he got that Hunting Rifle, he would be set.
If it wasn’t possible, even if he got the rifle, the moment he fired it at someone, the level of damage would probably cause the System to kill him instantly.
His remaining 10 Points told him that the risk was massive, and he couldn’t afford to test it!
“Hey, Village Chief, what are you thinking about?”
