After quickly settling dinner, the two immediately threw themselves back into work. There were still a huge number of drafts left unfinished, needing backgrounds and coloring.
Time passed without either of them noticing. Already lacking in stamina to begin with, Anxin was the first to give out. Her head swayed drowsily before she suddenly collapsed onto the computer desk and fell asleep.
Lingchen glanced at the time. It was already 11:30 PM.
Hours of tedious coloring and background drawing had left him utterly exhausted as well.
“Anxin… Anxin…” Lingchen called softly. “Don’t sleep leaning over like that. You’ll catch a cold.”
But perhaps she was simply too tired—there was no response at all.
Left with no choice, Lingchen gently picked Anxin up and carefully carried her onto his bed.
Afterward, he held her by the heel and carefully removed the boots from her feet, revealing the girl’s delicate little feet beneath.
“Goodnight. Rest well. Leave the rest of the work to me.”
After tucking her in properly, Lingchen returned to the computer desk.
Tonight was destined to be a sleepless one…
The next morning.
“Mmm… it smells like A-Chen~”
Early the next day, Anxin slowly opened her sleepy eyes while breathing in the lingering scent left on the blanket.
“Huh?! Why am I in A-Chen’s bed?!”
As she woke up further, she hurriedly grabbed her phone to check the time. It was already ten in the morning—less than two hours remained before the manuscript submission deadline.
“This is bad!”
She hastily shoved her shoes on and rushed straight toward the computer desk.
What she never expected was that every single background, every color layer, and even the lettering had all already been completed.
And there was only one person who could have done all of it—Lingchen.
Last night, he had stubbornly stayed up until 2 AM to finish everything before finally collapsing asleep beside the desk.
Anxin looked at Lingchen’s exhausted face with heartache. She gently hugged him, feeling as though her whole heart had melted into softness.
Just as she was about to give her beloved A-Chen a kiss, she suddenly realized his body temperature was alarmingly high.
Anxin quickly pressed her forehead against his and used a finger to check his breathing.
“A-Chen, you idiot… you made yourself sick because of me.”
A trace of guilt appeared in her voice.
“Now I have to take good care of you.”
After helping Lingchen onto the bed with great effort, Anxin rushed into the bathroom and brought back a basin of hot water, carefully wiping his face.
“If I’m going to wipe down his body, I’ll have to take all his clothes off…”
Finding herself an excuse, she skillfully removed Lingchen’s clothes and began gently cleaning his body.
After wiping him down completely, Lingchen’s expression visibly relaxed. Anxin wiped the sweat from her forehead and tucked the blanket back over him.
Logically speaking, this was the time she should go buy medicine—or search his house for some.
But looking at Lingchen breathing heavily with feverish heat, Anxin couldn’t help swallowing nervously.
It felt as though an evil little voice in her head was tempting her:
This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Don’t you want to experience a 39-degree A-Chen?
Yet seeing Lingchen’s exhausted face, she forcibly drove the thought from her mind.
Doing that would definitely worsen his condition.
She loved A-Chen. Right now, she only wanted him to recover quickly.
“But sneaking a kiss or two should still be okay, right?”
Only after kissing him more than ten times did Anxin finally leave the bedroom in satisfaction to go buy medicine.
Even after walking out the door, she kept rubbing her lips with her fingertips, savoring Lingchen’s taste.
Lingchen had a dream.
An incredibly realistic dream.
He dreamed that he was continuously kissing a girl whose face he couldn’t clearly see. Eventually, they even began trying deep French kisses.
Just as the dream was about to reach its climax—when the girl was about to remove the final veil-like layer of gauze from her body—Lingchen was abruptly awakened by a noisy sound.
“A-Chen, you’re awake! I made some porridge for you.”
The moment she saw him wake up, Anxin immediately brought over the porridge she had kept warm in the rice cooker.
“Thanks… my head hurts a little.”
Lingchen felt dizzy and sluggish all over.
“Well, of course. You literally worked yourself sick. Manga isn’t nearly that important—you’re the most important thing, A-Chen.”
Anxin lifted the bowl of porridge, gently blew on it, and held the spoon to Lingchen’s lips.
“But seriously… thank you so much, A-Chen. You worked so hard for my sake.”
Seeing Anxin so moved that tears were forming in her eyes, Lingchen scratched his head awkwardly.
Originally, he had simply not wanted to let down the girl who had helped him before.
“It’s fine. After all, I’m your assistant, right? A gold-medal assistant—always on call.”
Anxin covered her mouth and laughed softly.
“Hey, A-Chen… I’m really super touched right now. So if there’s anything at all you want me to do, you can ask.”
Seeing Anxin staring straight at him, Lingchen’s heart pounded wildly.
She had said anything.
Could she even mean that kind of thing…?
“Really anything? It wouldn’t make you uncomfortable or anything?”
If there had been a thermometer nearby, it would have shown that Lingchen’s fever—which had finally started dropping—was rapidly rising again.
“Mhm. Because it’s you, A-Chen. Only you.”
Feeling his burning gaze, Anxin shyly nodded, inwardly thinking that Lingchen had apparently been having those kinds of thoughts for a long time too.
“Then please continue being my artist when I finish acquiring the company and start developing the next project!”
“Huh?!”
Anxin had already closed her eyes, fully prepared for an intimate moment with Lingchen—only to hear that response instead.
“And besides that? Like…” she tried one last effort to awaken this hopeless gaming nerd.
But after thinking hard for a while, Lingchen genuinely couldn’t think of anything else he needed her to do.
“Just drawing character illustrations for me is enough. Once we acquire that company, we’ll already have plenty of staff.”
“Company?”
After hearing Lingchen mention this company for the second time, Anxin couldn’t help asking:
“What company?”
“A game company. It’s not very large. I’m acquiring it together with someone else. Once we have it, I’ll finally have the resources to make even more and even better games.”
The moment he started talking about game development, even the sick Lingchen became visibly energized, his face flushing with excitement as he passionately described his ideas for future projects.
Meanwhile, Anxin’s brows gradually furrowed.
There was no way Lingchen’s current game sales were enough to acquire a company of that size. Which meant the key issue lay with this mysterious partner.
Her instincts told her that this partner was no ordinary person.
In fact, just thinking about them made her feel vaguely uncomfortable.
Just as Lingchen finished describing his plans for the next game project, a message from Lin Wanfeng popped up.
Lin Wanfeng:
Boyfriend~ I’ve basically finished negotiating things on my side. Tomorrow I’ll take you to officially receive the company.
