Chapter 25 (2/3): Down-and-out young master 

Last night, the first time he truly acted like a man, he didn’t know how to control himself well.

It was only because of her good temper that she hadn’t gotten mad. Otherwise, he’d have a hard time to pay for this.

“Fu Fu, don’t order takeout at noon. I’ll have the bodyguard bring you a steak.”

Lan Hui asked, “Is that some kind of alternative compensation?”

Peng Kai laughed helplessly. “Just trying to make you happy.”

Lan Hui nodded. “Alright, then order a few portions. I can’t eat that much by myself.”

“No problem. As many as you want.” Peng Kai now had money and didn’t mind spending a bit more.

“That’s better.” Lan Hui was satisfied.

At noon, Lan Hui received four portions of steak on time, along with four servings of freshly cut fruit and milk tea—a very sumptuous meal.

At the table, compliments kept pouring in.

Her coworkers were thrilled to try five-star steak for the first time.

“Fu Fu, you’re so lucky. Your boyfriend treats you so well that we’re all benefiting.”

“Though I’ve never spoken to your boyfriend, I’ve seen him a few times from afar. I accept him as my brother-in-law.”

“Fu Fu, your boyfriend switched cars today, huh? I saw him driving a Rolls-Royce to bring you to work.”

Lan Hui discreetly mentioned that Peng Kai had officially been recognized by the Chen Family Elders, then quickly changed the subject.

That evening after work, Peng Kai arrived just on time to pick up Lan Hui and had the bodyguard pack some five-star food to bring home.

“Fu Fu, today just rest well. Don’t do anything else. If you need anything, just call me.”

Lan Hui laughed, “Kai-ge, I’m just sore and walking awkwardly, not some helpless cripple.” But inside, she was secretly delighted.

Peng Kai nodded. “I know, rest well.”

Lan Hui felt she had said nonsense and that he didn’t listen at all.

After dinner, Peng Kai went straight to the guest bedroom and moved all his things into the master bedroom.

Lan Hui’s cheeks flushed. He was really thick-skinned—after sleeping in the master bedroom last night, today he just marched right in.

Sensing her gaze, Peng Kai smiled, holding a pile of clothes. “It’s cold in winter; it’s warmer to sleep together.”

Lan Hui was speechless. Spring was almost here—did he really believe that?

But she didn’t stop him from moving in.

They were already together; sharing a room was only natural.

It was just that she needed to rest these past couple of days and couldn’t handle more of his enthusiasm.

“Kai-ge, moving in is fine, but not tonight!”

Peng Kai naturally understood and nodded. “Got it.”

He was greedy but cared about her even more.

With her boyfriend’s promise, Lan Hui finally relaxed. She walked over to help, but Peng Kai quickly stopped her. “I said rest well, I’ll do it myself.”

Though he was happy that she wanted to help, some boundaries must not be crossed.

Lan Hui sighed. “I really don’t mind.”

Peng Kai said, “Really? Who just told me not to touch her tonight?”

Lan Hui was speechless. “Move it yourself.” If she were any kinder, she’d be a fool.

Peng Kai found her helpless expression adorable and gently ruffled her hair. “Go watch some shows on the sofa.”

Then he bent down and kissed her on the forehead.

Peng Kai was so gentle that Lan Hui couldn’t resist and obediently went to watch TV.

Last night had been just like this—gentle coaxing again and again, making her repeatedly give in to him.

Lan Hui picked a comedy movie about ninety minutes long. When she finished watching, it was already past nine in the evening. Peng Kai had finished tidying up.

Lan Hui went into the room and opened the wardrobe to get her pajamas when Peng Kai spoke up, “Fu Fu, you go to sleep first. I have to go to the study to look at some materials.”

Lan Hui was surprised. “So late and you still have to study?”

Peng Kai nodded. “I just transferred to the Product Department. There’s a lot to learn, so I have to work overtime. Otherwise, I don’t know when I’ll be able to officially start.”

Lan Hui understood. “Then don’t stay out too late. Take care of yourself.”

Peng Kai hummed in agreement. “I’ll come back after you’re asleep.”

Lan Hui was puzzled. “Why wait until I’m asleep?”

Peng Kai looked at her quietly. “Do you really think I’m a saint?”

Lan Hui immediately understood—he was worried she wouldn’t be able to resist him again.

“Ah, whatever. Come back whenever you want. I’m going to shower.” Lan Hui almost fled.

Peng Kai smiled and went straight to the guest bedroom.

The guest bedroom was no longer used for guests; he was converting it into a study for work.

Lan Hui hadn’t slept well last night and had worked all day today. Exhausted, she fell asleep on the bed right after showering.

She didn’t know when Peng Kai came back to the room.

She only realized they were truly living together when she woke up the next morning tightly embraced in his arms.

The following days, Peng Kai entered a crazy busy mode. Apart from a few words exchanged every morning before work, Lan Hui barely saw him.

Even after work, the bodyguard was the one who picked her up.

He was busy with overtime and helping Xiao Pang with car problems at the auto repair shop.

This busy pace continued until school started again, and she finally saw Peng Kai in the classroom.

“Kai-ge, rare guest! I thought you wouldn’t come to school anymore.”

Lan Hui’s words weren’t sarcastic. Peng Kai had officially joined the family, and with the Chen Family Elders’ power, they could easily have sent him to a better school.

He was so busy now, and his career was taking shape. The accounting knowledge at school didn’t really fit his plans, so attending or not didn’t matter much.

“I was thinking about it, but then I wanted to attend school with you,” Peng Kai said.

Lan Hui sincerely replied, “Kai-ge, you’re so busy now. Follow your own pace. Schooling is optional, to be honest.”

Actually, the school was average in quality since it was an Adult University. It had little real value and was basically for people to polish their credentials and accumulate points.

The final exams were semi-open book. Considering Peng Kai’s situation, there was really no need to attend.

Under the desk, Peng Kai affectionately held Lan Hui’s hand and said softly, “Okay, I’ll think about it carefully.”

Lan Hui glared at him and whispered shyly, “Be careful. There are so many people around, and your bodyguards are still sitting in the back row.”

The Chen Family Elders were very concerned about Peng Kai’s safety. Two bodyguards in plain clothes posed as students sitting at the back to protect him.

Students of all ages filled the classroom. The two tall, burly men in their thirties drew frequent looks but didn’t cause a scene.

“It’s just holding hands. It’s not something to hide.”

Peng Kai was unconcerned.

Lan Hui was open-minded too. She was shy at first but got used to it after two minutes and just went along.

Recently, Peng Kai was too busy, and their contact had decreased. She didn’t even know when he returned to the room every night, only able to talk for a bit in the mornings.

Honestly, she missed him.

“Teacher’s coming, focus on class.” Lan Hui reminded him, but didn’t pull her hand away.

Peng Kai didn’t let go either. “Okay.”

Time flew by. On the way home after school, Peng Kai asked quietly, “Fu Fu, have you been resting well these days?”

Lan Hui nodded. “Rested pretty well. I don’t even notice when you come to bed at night.”

Peng Kai clarified, “I meant, is your body still tired?”
