“I think they’re really powerful. In those TV series, every Grandmaster is basically top-tier combat strength. Crushing mountains and rivers with a single punch is nothing,” Chong Chong replied.
Chen Xiaoyan’s face darkened. She tapped Chong Chong’s forehead gently with her finger.
“Silly girl, you’ve been watching too many dramas. This is the Immortal Realm.”
Chong Chong pouted, rubbed her forehead (which didn’t hurt at all), looked up, and asked, “What’s the difference?”
“Of course there is. TV series are fiction, got it?”
“Fiction? Isn’t this place fake too?” As she spoke, she noticed the change in Chen Xiaoyan’s expression and quickly shut her mouth.
Wu Yaowen and Ouyang Hua were completely baffled by their cryptic exchange.
What was this “TV series” place?
They had never heard of such a location within the Great Song Territory.
Could it be beyond Great Song?
But since it had a Grandmaster Martial Artist guarding it, that TV series place must be pretty safe.
Chen Xiaoyan shot Chong Chong a glare and shifted her attention to the Mo Clan members, who had now reached them. Their expressions were hostile, clearly here to cause trouble.
Mo Jiuchi strode over.
His eyes narrowed as he sized up the two women, then glanced at Ouyang Hua a few times. His gaze was utterly indifferent.
Ordinary people showed courtesy to sect disciples, but who was he? A rare Grandmaster Martial Artist—the pinnacle of martial artists. Naturally, he had his pride. He wasn’t about to bow and scrape to some sect disciples.
As for Ouyang Hua, if the Chief Minister of the Dali Temple were here, he might exchange pleasantries. But a mere Deputy Minister? Not worthy.
“Grandmaster Mo,” Ouyang Hua said respectfully, cupping his hands in salute.
Even His Majesty the Emperor treated Grandmaster Martial Artists with courtesy. He dared not show any disrespect.
“Mm.” Mo Jiuchi gave a slight nod, then beamed as he looked at the scholar Wu Yaowen. “I am here on the order of the Head of the Family to invite a scholar named Wu Yaowen. Deputy Minister Ouyang, would you happen to know him?”
Ouyang Hua frowned upon hearing this.
As Mo Jiuchi spoke, he was already looking at the scholar, indicating that he already knew Wu Yaowen’s identity. Clearly, this was a test.
He was asking Ouyang Hua to personally hand over Wu Yaowen.
Should he hand him over or not?
He hesitated for a moment, then immediately decided to pass the difficult decision to Chen Xiaoyan and Chong Chong.
“Fairies, Grandmaster Mo…”
“What a coincidence! Sister Xiaoyan and I were just about to visit the Prime Minister’s Residence.”
Ouyang Hua’s words were cut off by a pleasant voice.
Chong Chong was staring at the middle-aged man before her with a full smile, opening the system appraisal function.
[Mo Jiuchi, Level 54]
‘Only level 54?’
Chen Xiaoyan also received the system prompt, a bit surprised.
‘Although level doesn’t fully represent strength, it does represent a baseline.’
‘Clearly, this Grandmaster is far inferior to Shen Qingqing.’
‘He has an oppressive aura, but not the kind that makes me unable to muster any resistance, like Shen Qingqing did.’
Chong Chong’s words caught Mo Jiuchi’s attention.
“You two also want to go to the Prime Minister’s Residence?”
“Yes. We need to ask Miss Mo Nichang about something.”
Hearing that these two sect disciples wanted to see Mo Nichang, Mo Jiuchi’s gaze turned a few degrees colder.
“I see that neither of you little ones carry the aura of Spirit Enlightenment. You must be ordinary disciples of the Heavenly Fragrance Sect. Demonic Creatures have been rampant lately. You’d best watch your step.”
Chen Xiaoyan cupped her hands with a smile. “Thank you for the warning, Senior Mo. We know what we’re doing.”
She was amused. An NPC threatening a player?
‘This guy clearly doesn’t understand the horror of the Fourth Calamity. As long as you reveal a health bar, we’ll kill even a god for you to see.’
Seeing that Chen Xiaoyan was determined to wade into this troubled water, Mo Jiuchi didn’t try to stop her. Nor could he.
It wasn’t that he couldn’t beat these two juniors, but if he beat the young ones, the older ones might come. He couldn’t afford to offend the Heavenly Fragrance Sect.
“Fine. As long as you don’t regret this decision, I’ll take you to the Prime Minister’s Residence.”
“Huh.” Mo Jiuchi’s decisive response caught Chen Xiaoyan off guard. She cast a strange look at Ouyang Hua.
‘Brother, are you sure this Mo Jiuchi is loyal to the Mo Clan?’
‘He seems eager to throw the Mo Clan into chaos, or else why would he agree to take us to the Residence?’
Ouyang Hua shrugged, indicating he had no idea what was going on either.
—
Before the Prime Minister’s Residence.
Chen Xiaoyan, Chong Chong, and Wu Yaowen followed Mo Jiuchi to the gate.
Wu Yaowen stood behind them, restless, as if worried about something.
“Here we are,” Mo Jiuchi said, then entered the residence.
Chen Xiaoyan and Chong Chong exchanged a glance and followed.
Wu Yaowen hesitated at the doorway, afraid to step inside.
But the Mo Clan servants behind him showed no courtesy. With vicious expressions, they shoved him.
“Hurry up!”
With no choice, he steeled himself and entered the Prime Minister’s Residence.
In his heart, he kept praying that he could walk out of this place unharmed.
‘Mm, it’ll be fine. With those two fairies here, nothing will go wrong.’
Thinking of Chen Xiaoyan and Chong Chong, and trusting the Heavenly Fragrance disciples, the cloud of fear in his heart dispersed somewhat.
He mustered his courage and followed.
Once they reached the main courtyard, Mo Jiuchi stopped and turned to Chen Xiaoyan. “Wait here.”
With that, he leaped into the air, clearing the high wall, and disappeared.
“Sister Xiaoyan, could there be an ambush here?” Chong Chong walked over to Chen Xiaoyan, grabbed her left arm, and cautiously observed their surroundings.
‘People are always curious and afraid of the unknown.’
“Probably not. What, are you afraid of dying?” Chen Xiaoyan said in surprise.
Chong Chong shook her head. “Not afraid, but I’m afraid of pain.”
“Oh. Even if there is an ambush, it’s fine. Endure it for a moment and you won’t feel pain anymore.”
“Huh?” Chong Chong’s expression froze. She looked up at Chen Xiaoyan, who winked at her, clearly joking.
She rolled her eyes. “That joke was really cold.”
“Fine, I’ll stop then.”
Chen Xiaoyan glanced around the courtyard. The scenery was lovely—a nice place to rest.
It was many times better and larger than the little courtyard back in the sect.
“Fairies, I’m afraid the Prime Minister summoned me here to kill me, sigh,” Wu Yaowen said, catching up and letting out a sigh.
Chen Xiaoyan looked back at him. “Relax. With us here, you’ll be fine. When you meet that Mo Nichang later, don’t be too scared to speak.”
Hearing this, Wu Yaowen thought Chen Xiaoyan was looking down on him. He immediately grew anxious, thumping his chest to assure her.
“Fairies, please rest assured. I am no coward. Since I’ve decided to seek justice for that poor mother and daughter, I will see it through to the end.”
Chen Xiaoyan curled the corner of her mouth. “Good.”
“But why are you seeking justice for them? Do you know them?” Chong Chong asked curiously.
“No, we’ve never met,” Wu Yaowen replied with a bow.
“Then you…” Chong Chong hesitated, unable to finish the sentence. After a moment of silence, she simply looked at him like he was an idiot.
Wu Yaowen smiled awkwardly.
“Perhaps it’s because I can’t bear to see such tragedies in this world.”
