“It’s so stuffy sitting in the middle. I want to change seats. Field, can I sit in your spot by the window? I want to get some fresh air.”
Liyakade stood up from her seat, wanting to trade places with Field.
“Um, of course.”
Hearing this, Field simply thought Liyakade was affected by the nightmare from earlier and just wanted to sit by the window to clear her head, so she swapped seats with Liyakade without hesitation.
“Thank you, Field.”
After sitting down by the window, Liyakade thanked Field.
She then stopped looking toward Field and Alice, pulling the carriage curtain aside and opening the window slightly.
She propped her head up with her arm and gazed outside.
Feeling the breeze blowing past and watching the ever-changing scenery outside, Liyakade’s mood finally calmed down a bit.
She did not know why she had such a nightmare.
She only felt that the dream was incredibly terrifying and left a deep impression on her.
Even after waking up and seeing the two people beside her, Liyakade felt a brief sense of unreality.
To be honest, Field was fine, but when she saw Alice, she felt as if she were experiencing phantom pain.
Clearly, she had not activated her Demon Form yet, but she felt a slight burning pain on those non-existent wings.
The hands that had held Alice’s arm were still itching.
She felt as if something were weighing down on her heart; it even became difficult to breathe when she was near Alice.
This was the reason Liyakade wanted to move further away from Alice and sit by the window on Field’s side.
Once I get some fresh air and calm down, I’ll be fine once I forget about that dream.
The carriage suddenly fell silent.
After Liyakade thanked Field, she did not speak to the other two in the carriage again.
At first, Field thought Liyakade just needed a moment to recover, so she did not disturb her.
She simply chatted with Alice.
However, after a long while, Liyakade remained in a posture of looking outside, showing no intention of joining the two of them.
At this point, they also realized something was wrong with Liyakade.
Thus, the atmosphere in the carriage suddenly became strange.
Field and Alice stared at each other in silence while Liyakade stared out the window.
As for Alice, she had already become suspicious of Liyakade’s inexplicable behavior, and her heart began to waver once again.
When Liyakade had fallen asleep holding her arm, Alice thought she was just overthinking.
However, Liyakade’s tightly furrowed brows in her sleep had once again stirred Alice’s suspicion.
I am supposed to be someone very close to Liyakade.
Why, then, could she not feel at peace while sleeping with her arm around mine?
Although Liyakade did not say exactly what she dreamed about after waking up, she explicitly stated she had a nightmare.
Perhaps having a nightmare had little to do with whether or not she was holding Alice’s arm.
After all, when Liyakade was about to wake up, the hand holding Alice’s arm had grown even tighter.
This could even be interpreted as Liyakade becoming more dependent on Alice in the nightmare, which was why she gripped harder.
However, immediately after waking up, Liyakade had requested to switch seats with Field to sit by the window.
True, she just had a nightmare and wants some peace and fresh air.
I can understand that.
But what I can’t understand is that there is a window on my side too.
Why did Liyakade insist on sitting on Field’s side?
Liyakade’s behavior after waking up made it seem as if she had never even considered switching seats with her.
Clearly, there was a window on her side as well, and the seats and windows on both sides were exactly the same.
Is it… that she doesn’t want to sit next to me?
Maybe…
Liyakade didn’t actually think that much.
She just happened to see the window next to Field’s seat when she woke up, so she just said it.
However, after the last incident, Alice could not stop herself from overthinking.
She really wanted to explain the situation to Field and pour out her worries, but since Liyakade was right there, Alice did not want to say such things in front of her.
She was afraid that if she brought it up, Liyakade’s reaction would be something she didn’t want to hear.
Therefore, Alice could only stare at Field in silence.
Field was also affected by this awkward atmosphere.
After exchanging glances with Alice, Field seemed to read the meaning conveyed in Alice’s eyes and decided to take the initiative to talk to Liyakade.
“Cough, Liyakade, are you hungry? We’ve been traveling for most of the day. Do you want to eat something?”
“No thanks, I’m not very hungry yet.”
Without turning her head, Liyakade decisively rejected Field.
Since they were still in the carriage, the only things available to eat were snacks and pastries.
Furthermore, Liyakade was not hungry yet and was in no mood to eat.
“Then how about some water?”
Field could clearly hear the gloom and coldness in Liyakade’s tone.
Faced with this situation, Field did not know what to do.
Usually, finding a topic of conversation was very easy, but now it was so awkward she could cringe.
She could only offer Liyakade a series of concerned inquiries.
“It’s fine, I’m not thirsty.”
As expected, Field was directly rejected again.
The atmosphere in the carriage seemed to become even more awkward.
It was no longer a matter of Field and Alice not talking to Liyakade; it was that Liyakade was clearly in a self-isolated state, refusing to communicate.
Forget it.
Seeing that trying to start a conversation with ordinary topics was ineffective, Field decided to stop beating around the bush and address the main issue directly.
“Liyakade, what exactly is wrong? Did you dream of something very bad? Ever since you woke up, you’ve seemed very off.”
Field’s tone became more serious.
She leaned toward Liyakade and gently tugged on Liyakade’s sleeve.
Liyakade did not resist Field’s movement at all, which made Field a bit bolder.
“Sigh… I didn’t dream of much, just some things about the Demon Race.”
Feeling the tug on her sleeve, Liyakade turned around to look at Field, who had moved closer.
Meeting Field’s gaze, Liyakade could clearly feel the concern in her eyes.
However, Liyakade was still unwilling to say what had happened in that dream.
The events in the dream were simply too shocking.
She didn’t know what would happen if she spoke of them.
Field was more rational; she might think it was just a nightmare.
But Alice… perhaps she would be sensitive about it.
Besides… were the things that happened in that dream really completely baseless?
If it were just an ordinary nightmare, no matter how absurd or terrifying, Liyakade could quickly adjust her mindset and forget the dream.
But what made Liyakade feel terrified and unable to let it go was that the dream she just had made her feel as if it were reflecting something in reality.
