She had put so much effort into her disguise, only to be exposed within seconds of meeting, and all because she was stupid enough to fall into her own trap.
The forest fell into a deathly silence. Only the rustling of leaves in the night wind seemed to mock her silently.
No matter how reluctant she was, Sevitis couldn’t continue playing deaf and dumb.
Sevitis let out a light sigh, forcing down the sense of shame in her heart.
Still, she didn’t turn around. Instead, she deliberately straightened her petite back, trying to make herself look taller.
“Okay, it really is me.”
She said coldly, “Then, what business does the esteemed Lady Saint have, staying up late at night to come all the way out to this desolate wilderness just to wait for me?”
As if that wasn’t enough to vent her anger, she paused for two seconds, then slightly turned her head, glancing at the blonde girl behind her out of the corner of her eye, and added with full sarcasm, “Ah, sorry, I almost forgot. You’re not the Saint yet; you’re just a ‘humble’ Saint Candidate.”
‘So what if you found out my identity? Did you expect me to be nice to you? If you know what’s good for you, just let me go.’
Sevitis snorted inwardly, already prepared for the other’s sarcastic retort.
However, the expected conflict did not come.
A soft, gentle laugh came from behind.
Eulalia seemed completely oblivious to the distance in her words, and was utterly immune to that barbed mockery.
Accompanied by the faint sound of grass leaves rustling, the blonde girl not only didn’t get angry, but instead took a step forward, closing the distance between them.
“It’s nothing.”
Eulalia’s voice came lightly from behind, her tone even more cheerful than before, “I just wanted to chat with my childhood friend whom I haven’t seen in ages.”
At that point, Eulalia’s footsteps stopped right behind Sevitis.
Her gaze freely sized up the little girl with waist-length black hair in front of her, the smile at the corner of her mouth growing even richer.
“But well… you seem to have changed ‘a little bit’ a lot.”
Sevitis naturally understood what she meant, but she had no obligation to explain her recent blood-and-tears history to her.
“Aren’t you curious how I recognized you? Want to take a guess?” Eulalia suggested, a hint of expectation in her voice.
Sevitis was certainly curious. She had become such a mess, yet this girl recognized her at a glance.
Could it be that she could also see some kind of Information Panel?
But curiosity aside, how could she obediently follow this girl’s lead?
So she decisively chose to shut up and respond with silence.
“Oh my, not talking? Looks like Sevi is in a bad mood today. Is it because… you accidentally got stuck in the bushes earlier and felt embarrassed?”
‘No, it’s because of you!’
“Since Sevi doesn’t want to guess, then let me guess—why did Sevi end up in this cute form?” Eulalia tapped her cheek lightly, her blue eyes twinkling.
“But just guessing is no fun. How about we make a bet?”
‘How could Sevitis fall for that? Who bets for no reason?’
So she quickly walked away.
“Don’t leave so fast. If you win, I’ll pretend I didn’t see anything that happened tonight.”
Sevitis remained unmoved and kept walking.
“Oh, and also! I’ll also pretend I didn’t see that Sevi almost missed the registration a few days ago.”
Hearing this, Sevitis stopped.
She stiffly turned her head, staring intently at the beaming Eulalia, trying to see something in her eyes.
‘Was this girl watching the show nearby back then? So that scene of me crashing into the door like a cannonball was clearly seen by her? And my later act of playing pitiful—did she see all of that too?’
Eulalia’s smile grew even brighter. Her well-shaped eyebrows lifted slightly, her eyes full of mischief.
Sevitis couldn’t read the other’s expression at all.
‘Ahhh! How much did that damn bad blonde see?!’
“Hmph.” Sevitis let out a light breath. “Fine, let’s bet then.”
“Great!” Eulalia happily bounced lightly on the spot. “Then if I win, Sevi will obediently stay here and chat with me tonight. How about that?”
“Whatever.” Sevitis snorted coldly.
After all, she couldn’t possibly win.
The absurd things she had been through recently—even if Eulalia guessed for three days and nights, she would never guess them.
“Hmm, can you give me a little hint first?”
“You’re the one who proposed the bet. No hints. Less talk, just guess!” Sevitis refused mercilessly.
Watching Eulalia pretending to be deep in thought, Sevitis felt a secret satisfaction.
‘Hmph, guess away. If you can guess, I’ll eat this stone right here…’
“Let me think… Is it related to your pendant?”
“…”
‘Calm down, calm down. She must have just gotten lucky. She’s definitely bluffing, waiting to see my reaction.’
Sevitis closed her eyes, struggling to maintain a stoic, aloof expression.
“Ah, I get it. You suddenly had an accident, and then that pendant activated, turning you into a girl, right?”
The sarcastic smile that Sevitis had prepared on her face instantly froze.
‘No way, sis? How did you guess it in one go?!’
“So, did I guess correctly?”
Seeing the other not responding, Eulalia bent down and tilted her head to look at the silent black-haired girl.
“Hey hey, why aren’t you talking?”
Sevitis slowly looked up, her mouth twitching, revealing a smile uglier than crying.
“Heh… you guessed… really accurately.” She gritted her teeth to force out those words.
Hearing the admission, the blonde girl happily cupped her cheeks and cheerfully lifted her calf.
“Awesome! I guessed it right in one go~”
