“Ahem, maybe. I just want to go out for a spin and relax a bit.”
Lu Ren cleared his throat and replied.
After hearing his answer, Xu Wenxing and Lin Yiyi exchanged glances, a bit confused by his thoughts.
But soon, Xu Wenxing was the first to catch on and asked Lu Ren.
“Brother Ren, you’re going out to investigate City A, aren’t you?”
“Pretty much, you guessed it.” Lu Ren nodded. “What’s up?”
“Since you’re heading out for work, take this with you.”
Xu Wenxing stood up, quickly slipped into his room, rummaged around for a bit, and brought out a small black box.
Lu Ren looked at the box, puzzled, but still took it from Xu Wenxing’s hands.
“This is…?”
“It’s a simple detection device and remote communicator I developed with some colleagues. Just think of it as an earpiece we can use to talk to each other.”
“This… a cell phone with a built-in radar?”
Lu Ren raised an eyebrow, opened the box, and glanced at the small gadget inside, casually making a comparison.
Who would’ve thought that upon hearing Lu Ren’s comparison, Xu Wenxing would happily nod and praise him.
“Exactly! That’s pretty much it! Since you’ve been busy running around, it’s not always convenient to Transform and sense magical power. So use this as a stopgap first. Only Transform when you’re actually in danger.”
“Hmm… okay.”
Lu Ren pondered for a moment, then nodded. He took out the Bluetooth earpiece-like object and placed it on his ear.
The moment he put on the small gadget, he immediately heard a beep beep warning sound from the earpiece, telling him that magic power was flowing nearby and to be careful.
As for the direction…
It seemed to be on his right side?
Lu Ren instinctively looked to his right, only to see Pandora waving her paw at him, then quietly rubbing her hands together, looking at him with pride.
A few seconds later, the earlier warning sound vanished, and no more detection alerts came through the earpiece.
It seemed this thing might be useful, but its usability was questionable.
Even a Magic Fairy like Pandora, who had lost most of her Power, could still come up with countermeasures to deal with magical tracking once she sensed she was being monitored.
His own built-in Magical Tracking Ability after Transformation was far superior.
No matter how someone tried to hide, as long as they exposed Abnormal Magic Power, he could detect them.
Even the Numbered Shadow Beasts, capable of actively concealing themselves, couldn’t escape his pursuit once discovered.
Was he the Bloodhound in some shooter game?!
Thinking about his unique Ability after Transformation, Lu Ren couldn’t help but feel proud, marveling at how useful his Battle Suit was.
Seeing this, Xu Wenxing, sitting across from Lu Ren, assumed he didn’t know how to adjust the gadget, so he spoke up to explain.
“Brother Ren, this thing automatically alerts you when it detects magic power. You don’t need to adjust anything.”
“Oh… okay, got it.”
“Also, if you run into danger, you can just shout into this earpiece. As long as you don’t leave City A, I’ll be able to respond anytime.”
With that, Xu Wenxing shook the small black earpiece in his hand at Lu Ren, explaining the specific range of the gadget’s other function.
Lu Ren gave a slight nod, took the small earpiece off his ear, tossed it in the air a couple of times, and replied.
“Alright, I understand. Anything else? If not, I’m heading out.”
“Nope. Have a safe trip, Brother Ren.”
“Keep studying hard, kid.”
Tossing back a casual reply, Lu Ren pushed open the door with the black earpiece and followed Pandora downstairs, waiting for Director Xu to arrive.
After Lu Ren left, Xu Wenxing and Lin Yiyi exchanged a glance, both seeing confusion in each other’s eyes, but neither dared to speak first.
“What do you want to ask?”
In the end, Xu Wenxing cracked first, unable to withstand Lin Yiyi’s stare. He raised his hands in surrender and asked her.
Lin Yiyi looked Xu Wenxing up and down, thought for a few seconds, and asked.
“That thing just now—you didn’t actually develop it with colleagues, did you?”
“Cough, how did you know?” Xu Wenxing honestly admitted to Lin Yiyi’s guess.
“Simple. Because the Monster Response Department hasn’t developed any new Magic Power detection device at all.” Lin Yiyi replied. “Did you design it yourself? Or is it something you made but hasn’t been mass-produced?”
“Uh… some other colleagues helped with the development, design, repairs, and testing, but yeah, it hasn’t been mass-produced.”
“Why not? This little gadget is so useful. If it could be mass-produced, it should save department employees a lot of trouble, right?” Lin Yiyi pressed.
“Because there’s no way to mass-produce it.” Xu Wenxing gave a helpless smile.
“What do you mean?”
Lin Yiyi stared at Xu Wenxing, utterly confused.
Xu Wenxing didn’t answer. Instead, he extended his right hand toward Lin Yiyi, gesturing with his eyes for her to look at his palm.
Though puzzled, Lin Yiyi followed his direction and looked at Xu Wenxing’s palm.
Then, Lin Yiyi froze.
“This… what is this?”
On Xu Wenxing’s palm, a blood-red triangle was visible, moving through his blood vessels as if it had a will of its own, shifting from one spot to another.
Xu Wenxing shook his head, withdrew his hand, and replied.
“I don’t know either. When I came back safely from the Caesar Grand Hotel, this strange thing was already on my palm.”
“I originally thought it was some kind of special Curse that would eventually kill me, so I never told anyone. I figured dying quietly alone in some corner wouldn’t be so bad.”
“But this triangle never threatened my life. Instead, it helped me develop that magic detection device.”
Listening to Xu Wenxing’s string of explanations, Lin Yiyi fell silent.
She stared at his withdrawn right hand, her brow furrowed, and pressed further.
“After this triangle appeared, did you feel any discomfort or notice anything abnormal?”
“No. Compared to before, I just gained the ability to sense magic power, and I know how to apply that ability in real life.” Xu Wenxing shrugged. “That’s how I’ve been able to come up with all these weird gadgets lately.”
“So that thing just now can’t be mass-produced because…”
“Because I can’t replicate that accidental success from that day. It’s like doing research.” Xu Wenxing shook his head with a wry smile. “I can’t reproduce the data from the paper, and I’ve forgotten the original idea behind it. How am I supposed to mass-produce this thing?”
“I understand.”
Lin Yiyi nodded, and smiled.
