Qiu Ye cracked sunflower seeds, watching Bai Yao, who was sound asleep on top of his English textbook, a look of long-anticipated satisfaction on his face.
He was relieved that Bai Yao had finally fallen asleep.
Usually, seeing Bai Yao’s diligent and hardworking demeanor, he always felt like he was slacking off in comparison, a twinge of guilt in his heart… even though his own English was quite good, he didn’t really need to review, passing Level 4 wasn’t difficult, let alone a final exam.
Had to admit, having a girlfriend who was a bit “dumb” was pretty nice.
Not that she was actually dumb-brained, but rather that there was some insurmountable gap between them, like in English scores.
Every time Qiu Ye tutored Bai Yao in English, that little look of admiration in her eyes really got him going.
He also liked playing ball with Bai Yao, whether it was ping pong, basketball, or even badminton.
With the physical disparity between them, he could always beat her convincingly, drawing out that same admiring, envious gaze.
“Still have the nerve to say I snore.”
Wang Zuhao, hearing Bai Yao’s rhythmic snoring, muttered with a look of disdain.
Qiu Ye shot him a glare.
“Can a beautiful girl snoring be compared to a burly brute like you snoring? How cute is that? You snoring just makes people want to punch you.”
“Bai Yao’s snoring is adorable, don’t wake her. You snoring just makes people want to punch you.”
Chen Zhilong, as always, looked out for Bai Yao, then turned to Qiu Ye with an outstretched hand.
“Gimme some seeds.”
“Clean up your own mess.”
So Chen Zhilong tossed the cracked sunflower seed shells directly into his jacket pocket.
Qiu Ye cracked seeds, read a novel on his phone, chatted with his roommates—time seemed to fly by.
This exam period was way more comfortable than classes.
The teacher didn’t care about discipline at all; aside from emphasizing no early departures, they let the students, nearing their holiday, make as much noise as they wanted.
Qiu Ye glanced sideways at Bai Yao, asleep on the desk.
Never noticed it usually, but now, with her cheek pressed against her arm, her face was squished flat, looking chubby and cute.
Clearly, sleeping in the classroom was even more comfortable than sleeping in the rented room.
Bai Yao’s brows were relaxed, her breathing smooth, lips slightly parted, a droplet of drool already hanging at the corner of her mouth.
Qiu Ye, feeling mischievous, tossed a sunflower seed kernel into her slightly open mouth.
Bai Yao was disturbed, chewing twice in her sleep, then turned her head and shifted position, continuing to sleep.
Seeing Qiu Ye tease Bai Yao, Wang Zuhao also felt an itch.
He was about to reach out and poke her when Qiu Ye grabbed his hand.
“Why bother her while she’s sleeping?”
Qiu Ye didn’t want other guys touching Bai Yao.
“Didn’t you do it first?”
Wang Zuhao rolled his eyes.
“Wife-protecting, huh?”
“Yes! What about it?”
Qiu Ye admitted it readily.
“For real?”
Wang Zuhao was skeptical.
While he felt Bai Yao and Qiu Ye’s relationship was indeed overly close, it was hard to believe their dorm had actually produced a little couple.
The admission came too quickly, making it seem like a joke.
—
“Alright, those who’ve signed can leave. Those who haven’t submitted their final assignments, hurry up.”
The teacher on the podium checked the time; it was now the period when early departure was allowed.
The students erupted in cheers.
Bai Yao was woken by the noise, yawning as she lifted her head, dazedly wiping the drool from the corner of her mouth.
“What’s going on?”
“We can head back.”
Qiu Ye stretched as he stood up, went to fetch the trash can from the back, and cleaned up the sunflower seed shells from the desk.
“So soon?”
Bai Yao kept yawning, rubbing the corners of her eyes, stretching, still so sleepy she could barely keep her eyes open, sitting there in a daze.
“Bai Yao?”
She looked up at Gu Wanwan, who had approached, and asked weakly, “What’s up?”
A drowsy Bai Yao seemed much more approachable than her usual cold self, finally giving Gu Wanwan an opportunity.
“My assignment… could you take a look at it?”
“Alright.”
Bai Yao stood up and followed Gu Wanwan over to the group of girls.
She sat in front of the computer, yawning as she helped check the assignment.
“Her skin is so good~ Can’t even see any pores?”
“Can we take her home? She’s a guy, right? A guy, right? I’m so~”
The soft murmurs of a few girls reached her ears, and Bai Yao heard them clearly.
Hmph~ That’s right!
She felt smug inside, glancing around with the corner of her eye, only to suddenly realize she was surrounded by four or five girls.
Bai Yao froze for a moment.
With every breath, she inhaled the sweet fragrance of young women.
The girls around her chattered away, discussing her, each lively and cute, like fairies seemingly out of reach.
Her sleepiness vanished instantly.
Realizing she had stepped into the “realm of women,” her face began to gradually heat up.
Even though she’d been a woman for a month now, in this moment, that little “virginal boy” mentality resurfaced.
Bai Yao’s expression tightened in an instant, reverting to that icy, aloof face.
Gu Wanwan leaned over to operate the mouse.
“Right here, I don’t know how to do it. What I made looks terrible.”
“Mhm.”
Bai Yao responded coldly.
The more flustered she felt inside, the colder her expression became.
She wanted to ask Qiu Ye for help, but surrounded by girls, she could only focus on helping Gu Wanwan fix the assignment.
Her mind was a chaotic mess, and she couldn’t see Qiu Ye anywhere.
Wait, even if Gu Wanwan used to like me, I’m cross-dressing now.
She wouldn’t still be interested, right?
And she has a boyfriend now.
Can’t Gu Wanwan tell?
Damn, this girl’s chest is huge.
Even this thick jacket can’t hide it.
Gu Wanwan was also constantly observing Bai Yao.
Seeing that cold expression made her nervous, but she was also incredibly curious—how could a boy be prettier than a girl?
“So… do you like boys or girls?”
Bai Yao almost lost her composure.
Why ask about sexual orientation right off the bat?
Do I look like the type who’d like men?
Well, yeah, kinda.
If it were her, meeting a cross-dressing legend, she’d probably ask about orientation first too.
Bai Yao struggled for a long time, her face nearly turning red, before she finally muttered softly, “Either is fine?”
If I say I like guys, it makes me seem super gay.
If I say I like girls, that feels kinda dishonest?
What are you even overthinking about!
“Bai Yao, are you done over there?”
Bai Yao finally had an excuse to escape.
“Mhm, pretty much. I’ll head off then.”
She hurriedly stood up, squeezed past the group of girls, and practically fled in a small jog over to Qiu Ye’s side.
Gu Wanwan watched Bai Yao’s face, which clearly lit up with a smile the moment she got close to Qiu Ye, and nodded thoughtfully.
After observing them this whole time, no matter how you looked at it, they seemed like a perfect match.
“You’re quite popular with the girls now, huh?”
Seeing Bai Yao run over, Qiu Ye teased with a smile.
“Better not… Girls are so troublesome, asking this and that.”
Bai Yao really wasn’t that interested in women, following closely behind Qiu Ye with small steps as they left the classroom.
“So you’re not going to make any friends?”
Qiu Ye, however, frowned, asking with some concern.
Bai Yao thought about it.
Over this past month, her contact with her old dorm mates had lessened.
They still chatted during class, but it did feel more distant.
She really didn’t seem to have any friends.
Most of her daily social time was given to Qiu Ye, but she didn’t feel uncomfortable about it at all.
On the contrary, not having to deal with others felt pretty good.
“It’s fine if I don’t.”
Bai Yao mumbled.
“I have you anyway.”
And she had her computer and the internet.
Whether she had a social life or not felt pretty fulfilling.
