Seeing her reaction, Blazing Flame shook her head helplessly, gaining a general understanding of the situation regarding the students of this school.
Sensing the trajectory of the activity from that relatively massive Magical Power Source, and seeing the opponent grow increasingly powerful, the Red-Haired Girl looked at Meteor and spoke.
“Meteor, could I trouble you to stay here and look after the students? I plan to make a trip to the School Canteen.”
“Are you going to clean up the remaining Shadow Beasts?” Meteor blinked and asked.
“Mm. Their aura is gradually growing stronger; I cannot just sit by and watch.”
“That’s true. We certainly cannot allow these monsters to run wild in the school…”
As Meteor spoke, she lowered her head once more. Her expression shifted constantly as she bit her lip, seemingly weighing an important matter.
Observing her strange reaction, Blazing Flame arched an eyebrow, unable to fathom what she was worried about.
She asked directly, “What is it? What are you thinking?”
“Blazing Flame, could I ask a favor of you?”
Meteor did not answer directly. Instead, she gazed earnestly at Blazing Flame, her eyes pleading.
Surprised, Blazing Flame nonetheless nodded. “Go ahead. What is it?”
“Could you leave those monsters in the dining hall to me?” Meteor asked in a low voice.
“Don’t worry, if I truly cannot defeat them, I will run away. I won’t try to be a hero.”
Hearing Meteor’s heartfelt request, Blazing Flame fell silent.
She stared at Meteor without a word, remembering her own previous words to the girl and considering her usual conduct.
Ultimately, Blazing Flame nodded and granted Meteor’s request.
“Fine, I understand. I will take care of the nearby students then.”
“Thank you, Blazing Flame.”
Hearing Blazing Flame permit her reckless behavior, Meteor breathed a long sigh of relief.
She forced a smile onto her face and moved her body as if warming up.
Seeing this, Blazing Flame gave the girl a faint smile and a wave.
Then, she turned and walked toward the Teaching Building, leaving the girl to herself.
The moment Blazing Flame was gone, the smile on Meteor’s face vanished.
She stared toward the School Canteen, gritting her teeth and clenching her left fist.
In the next second, she floated into the air and flew straight toward the School Canteen.
Within a short dozen or so seconds, Meteor arrived before the gates of the dining hall — a place she was usually intimately familiar with, yet which had been completely transformed.
The gates were entwined by tentacle after tentacle, to the point that the glass had become uneven and distorted, resembling a wooden door.
Meteor took a deep breath and raised her Magic Staff. Aiming it at the dining hall, she chanted in a language incomprehensible to humans.
A golden light erupted from the Magic Staff, flickering before suddenly exploding forward!
Like high-intensity explosives being detonated, a brilliant Golden Light Beam flew straight toward the gate blocking the path, shattering the glass door covered in flesh and tentacles.
Boom!
In an instant, the light dissipated.
Seeing the dining hall gate return to its former appearance and the ugly tentacles crawling over the entire building purified by her strike, Meteor exhaled a breath of turbid air.
She gripped her Magic Staff and stepped inside.
The first floor of the dining hall was vast and empty. The tables and chairs were as clean and transparent as if they had just been polished.
The signs were clearly visible, and the hygiene appeared excellent.
However, the massive dining hall was currently devoid of any human presence, to the point where Meteor could clearly hear the sound of her own footsteps.
Staring at the seemingly normal Great Hall, Meteor raised her Magic Staff once more, circulating the Magic Power within her body to condense a Magic Cannon.
A moment later, a golden flame bloomed within the dining hall, swirling like a storm that swept up all the tables, chairs, and signs.
Strangely, as the light beam appeared, rounds of piercing cries and screams echoed throughout the hall, as if something was being purified by that dark golden Magic Cannon.
It took two minutes before the storm finally vanished from the hall.
Then, with a clatter, severed tentacle limbs fell from the ceiling to the floor.
The tables and chairs that had appeared pristine before were now covered in scratches from long use, and the lights on the signs were no longer as bright as they had been.
Seeing the dining hall return to the state she remembered, Meteor did not linger. She turned and headed for the second floor.
The situation on the second floor was identical to the first; there was nothing unusual.
Meteor casually fired a Magic Cannon to purify the second floor, then walked straight toward the top floor of the School Canteen.
As soon as she pushed open the tightly closed wooden door, several tentacles suddenly lunged at her.
Their intent was clear, aiming for her hands, feet, and lips, seemingly trying to bind her and neutralize her combat ability.
But the battle-hardened Meteor merely narrowed her eyes slightly.
She sidestepped to dodge the attack of the five tentacles, then used her Magic Staff to snap them before crushing the fallen remains under her feet.
“Impressive. As expected of the top student in the class, you actually dodged the sneak attack I so carefully prepared.”
“Can you tell me how you did it, Lin Yiyi? I truly wish to learn your combat techniques.”
After she dealt with the tentacles, a distorted voice—sounding like a malfunctioning microphone—echoed in Meteor’s ears again.
She looked toward the source and saw the recently diligent student, Wang Zixian.
His face was covered in tentacles, and several more tentacles from his hands were burrowed into the heads of corpses on the floor, seemingly siphoning some kind of energy.
Witnessing this hellish scene, Meteor silently raised her Magic Staff and condensed a Light Cannon.
“Can we not resort to violence, Lin Yiyi? I only wish to acquire more knowledge.”
The humanoid monster actively sued for peace, raising its hands to show it lacked hostile intent.
But Meteor heard it clearly. Even as he spoke, several more tentacles were stealthily creeping along the floor, attempting to ambush her from her blind spot.
If she did not possess extensive combat experience and remain constantly vigilant, paying close attention to both sounds and her enemy’s movements, the sneak attack might have actually succeeded.
Fortunately, she had been fighting Shadow Beasts since middle school.
Whoosh!
Ignoring his words, Meteor finished condensing her Magic Cannon and fired it forward without hesitation, aiming to end his life.
Seeing that Meteor had not been deceived, the monster known as “Wang Zixian” sighed with regret.
He used his tentacles to shove aside the corpses from which he had not yet finished absorbing knowledge.
Countless swirling tentacles suddenly erupted from his throat and lunged forward.
Even though Meteor’s Magic Cannon was powerful, obstructed by the swarm of tentacles, the strike ultimately failed to reach Wang Zixian’s face.
Meteor did not falter. She immediately gathered Magic Power, preparing to fire a second shot.
But at that very moment, a sudden change occurred.
