“Classmate, try reading this line.” Lin Chen was at the broadcast station, picking out voice actors for the background characters.
His requirements for background characters were very low. In fact, if no one suitable came along, background characters could just go without voice acting.
After three or four classmates had tried and failed, a freshman girl with short black hair walked in. She wore a white shirt under a dark green cardigan, paired with a dark plaid pleated skirt.
She looked especially pure and adorable, the type that instinctively made people want to protect her.
“Senior Lin Chen! I’m so happy to see you again!” The underclassman’s eyes lit up when she saw him, trembling with excitement as if she’d just met a celebrity you only ever saw on TV.
“You are?” Lin Chen had no impression of this cute girl whatsoever.
“I’m a fan of yours, Senior. So it’s totally normal if you don’t remember me, since we’ve only met a few times.” The girl’s expression turned a little wistful. “My name is Hua Manyue, and the character I want to try out for… is the third female lead!”
Lin Chen saw how natural and poised she was, and was willing to give her a shot, so he handed her the script.
The sudden appearance of this junior Hua Manyue also made the two girls behind Lin Chen—who had been locked in an intense staring contest—stop.
Both of them sensed a hint of danger. Watching the lively girl, Hua Manyue, they sighed inwardly.
‘There are too many bad women outside. I need to protect A Chen.’
‘Why are there always girls coming up to Lin Chen…?’
On Lin Chen’s side, Hua Manyue’s audition was a resounding success.
Her voice was crisp and pleasant, her tone light and soft, carrying a unique purity and liveliness.
Just listening to her talk made people feel their mood brighten along with her.
When she finished, many of the broadcast station students behind her burst into applause.
“Senior, how did I do~?” Hua Manyue leaned in close to Lin Chen’s ear, fluttering her eyelashes and looking at him with a beaming smile.
“Okay, you’re in!” Lin Chen had no reason to refuse.
“Yes! It’s really lucky to be able to do voice acting with you, Senior!”
Chu Xiaoxiao watched Hua Manyue’s stellar performance and couldn’t help but sigh. Hua Manyue’s rhythm during voice acting was far better than hers.
They were both cute girls, but the other girl was not only a better voice actress, she was also more proactive in front of Lin Chen.
Chu Xiaoxiao’s sense of crisis deepened. She had to work even harder. Otherwise… how could she ever win Lin Chen back?
Thinking this, she pulled out her phone and asked Su Qingwan how the theme song was coming along.
Yesterday’s promise to Lin Chen about resolving the game’s theme song wasn’t empty talk.
As soon as Chu Xiaoxiao got home, she’d handed this task over to Su Qingwan, asking her to find a professional producer to handle it.
Su Qingwan: Rest assured, Miss. I’ve already found a well-known figure in the industry. ❛‿˂̵✧
Chu Xiaoxiao: Can you get him to speed it up a bit while maintaining quality? Money’s no issue.
Su Qingwan: I’ll try to talk to him about it. But with creative work like this, sometimes you just can’t rush it.
Closing the chat window, Chu Xiaoxiao covered her eyes with her phone, tilted her head back, and leaned against the chair to rest.
Her unease was growing stronger. Why were there so many cute girls around Lin Chen?
She had to be faster. She had to make him change his mind before he fell for another girl!
Not long after, Lin Chen had finished selecting. In addition to Hua Manyue, he’d also gotten two male students to handle the background character voice acting.
After all, each person only did a short segment, and there weren’t that many students who’d shown up. Just seven or eight.
It took about twenty minutes to wrap up.
Lin Chen planned to record the two male students first, since the male background character lines were concentrated in the common route and had a smaller text volume.
It would be best if they could finish it all in one day.
“The rest of the time, I’ll work on voice acting with these two male classmates. Female leads, you can take a break for now. I’ll notify you about the remaining voice acting in the QQ group,” Lin Chen said.
Seeing that time was getting late, he created a working QQ group and wanted the girls to go eat first while he took the two guys to test out the equipment.
The two male students were also thrilled. Few guys wouldn’t be excited to participate in game development.
“It’s okay, A Chen. I’m not tired yet. I’ll stay with you.” An Xin showed no intention of leaving. For her, being with Lin Chen was the best rest.
“Me too.” Chu Xiaoxiao wasn’t about to miss a chance to get closer.
“I have class this afternoon, so I’ll head off first, Senior. You sure are popular, huh.” Hua Manyue waved at Lin Chen, then turned and walked toward the school gate.
“Alright then, let’s head back to the activity room.”
On the way back, Lin Chen found himself sandwiched between the two girls again…
The two guys behind him could only watch with envy.
“Didn’t I hear that Senior Lin Chen got rejected hard by Chu Xiaoxiao? But they seem to be on really good terms.”
“Geez, I wish I could have two cute girls hanging off my arms!”
Hearing what the two guys behind him were saying, Lin Chen’s forehead was practically lined with black veins.
“What’s wrong with you two? We’ve left the broadcast station already. You can’t still be shy, can you?”
Sandwiched between the two girls, Lin Chen’s eyes held no desire for feminine beauty, only anxiety about the time wasted on game development.
It was already past 11. He didn’t have much time left this morning for voice acting. Lin Chen was anxious.
“Sorry, A Chen. I’m feeling a little lightheaded from low blood sugar. Can I lean on you for a bit?” An Xin put on a pitiful look.
“Low blood sugar? That’s not something we can help.”
Lin Chen put an arm around her and then, to An Xin’s dismay, promptly handed her over to Chu Xiaoxiao.
“Chu Xiaoxiao, could you please take her to the school clinic to rest? Your voice acting doesn’t start until tomorrow anyway, so thanks.”
Lin Chen saw right through An Xin’s act. She’d never had low blood sugar before.
There was only one possibility: she was trying to get him to cook for her again.
This had happened before. An Xin had deliberately stayed late working with him and missed dinner, making Lin Chen feel so guilty that he’d gone out of his way to make her a lavish dinner.
Hmph. Trying the same old trick.
But a trick like that only works once on this saint of a strategist.
If he took care of An Xin and cooked her another big lunch or dinner, today’s voice acting progress would be completely ruined. Plus, it might bankrupt their already tight budget.
An Xin really was a little foodie.
Lin Chen shook his head helplessly.
Seeing this golden opportunity, Chu Xiaoxiao quickly agreed. She grabbed An Xin’s hand and hurried toward the school clinic.
“Don’t worry about Lin Chen. I’ll take good care of her.” Chu Xiaoxiao led An Xin away without looking back.
“Wait, I—” An Xin didn’t even get to finish her sentence before Chu Xiaoxiao dragged her off.
Only when Lin Chen was out of sight did Chu Xiaoxiao let go. Her face had already shifted back to its usual icy expression.
Aside from Lin Chen and Su Qingwan, Chu Xiaoxiao didn’t show a good face to anyone.
An Xin rubbed her wrist, which was aching from the grip, and fumed. “I’ve heard that a good horse doesn’t turn back to graze on an abandoned pasture.”
“Save your breath, Master of Tea Artistry.” Chu Xiaoxiao didn’t give an inch.
The two girls ended up parting ways on bad terms.
(Today’s winner: Lin Chen, because progress on the game got a major boost.)
