The forest was a complete mess, with shocking pools of blood everywhere on the ground, silently telling of the brutal battle that had just taken place here.
“Whew— haaah—”
The white-haired girl lay sprawled on her back beside a pool of blood, gasping for air without a shred of dignity.
Her originally exquisite gothic battle dress was now covered in tears and dark red stains.
In the center of the blood pool lay a massive figure. Its terrifying claws and fangs were enough to make any ordinary person tremble with fear.
But now, its dark green beastly pupils had completely dimmed.
A giant blood scythe was lodged in its neck, and crimson blood continuously gushed from the wound, just a hair’s breadth away from severing its entire large head.
…It was finally dead.
Sevitis, of course, didn’t have the ability to instantly kill the Dark Demon Tiger.
The gap in rank wasn’t something that could be easily bridged with just a weapon.
Moreover, this creature had incredibly thick skin and flesh. Even with the terrifyingly powerful blood scythe in her hand, she could barely inflict effective damage.
That was exactly why she was now lying here in such a sorry state.
But she wasn’t seriously injured. Although the demon tiger was stronger than her, she had the advantage of flight.
She only got caught by it a few times along the way, and with a vampire’s regenerative abilities, she was mostly healed by now.
She was just completely exhausted.
At first, she thought the weakness information displayed on the status panel wasn’t very useful.
But after the actual fight, she realized how wrong she was.
This demon tiger had an exceptionally bad temper. A couple of taunts from her were enough to make it completely lose its mind.
Its already limited brain capacity dwindled to nearly nothing under its rage, turning it into nothing more than a target that recklessly bit and clawed.
If it had used its natural ambush abilities to toy with her, she wouldn’t have been able to take it down with just a bit of effort.
After all, even though Sevitis had become a vampire, her strength was only at the Third Rank.
She was initially worried she wouldn’t get used to this small body, but surprisingly, her movements were completely fluid, as if this body was the one she was born with.
Sevitis stretched out her slender arm and clenched her fist at the half-moon in the sky.
“Grrr~”
Her stomach protested again, louder than before.
Maybe she’d been hungry for too long. She didn’t feel it much during the fight, but now, after intense exertion, this hunger was absolutely unbearable.
Sevitis rubbed her completely flattened stomach.
Alright, time to enjoy the fruits of victory.
She pulled her hand back, put it on the ground, and tried to flip over and get up.
Smack.
She failed.
Sevitis realized she had no strength left at all. Her body felt limp, and she just wanted to lie there like a useless fish.
She looked helplessly at the night sky.
‘No way… Am I going to be the first vampire in this continent’s history who can only stare at food and starve to death?’
‘No! This death would be even more shameful than being killed by that female vampire. I absolutely can’t give up. One more try.’
Thinking that, she didn’t try to push herself up with her hands this time. Instead, she focused on her back and tried to exert force with one of her bat wings.
Splat.
Sevitis fell face-first onto the ground. Her little white head shot up, shaking off the dirt on her face.
‘Well, at least I flipped over.’
This pair of bat wings was far more agile than she expected, almost like having an extra pair of hands.
It was way too convenient. She felt like she might end up spoiled into a useless person at this rate.
But that was all they could do for her. She didn’t even have the strength to flap them and get off the ground.
So the remaining distance was hers to walk… crawl.
As for why she didn’t just drink the pool of blood right in front of her?
She’d already thrown away some of her dignity to survive once.
For now, she had no intention of discarding the last shred of decency belonging to a higher intelligent species.
So this vampire used both hands and feet, struggling to crawl bit by bit toward the demon tiger’s corpse.
‘As long as… as long as I can reach that place.’
Sevitis frantically cheered herself on in her heart.
She didn’t know how long she crawled. When she looked up again, she finally reached the demon tiger.
Sevitis lifted her head with difficulty, staring eagerly at the figure that towered over her even when she stood, unconsciously swallowing her saliva.
Faced with the blood flow so close, she had no time to care about any human aversion to blood.
Eating was the top priority!
The starving newborn vampire could no longer suppress her instinctive craving.
“Time to dig in!”
Like a hungry tiger pouncing on its prey.
……
“Cough, cough… ptooey! What the hell is this?!”
Sevitis thought the blood of such a demon beast would have a heavy, fishy smell, but the opposite was true.
The taste of the blood itself was actually just right for her vampire taste buds.
The reason she spat out the blood she had finally gotten into her mouth, even in her extreme hunger, was simple—it burned her throat.
Sevitis never liked alcohol much. She’d tried it before to fit in with noble society, but she could never adapt to the stimulating sensation of alcohol.
But this stuff was a hundred times stronger than any alcohol she’d ever drunk!
Looking at the blood continuously flowing from the demon tiger’s neck, Sevitis hesitated.
But the sound of the blood dripping onto the soil and her stomach’s constant protests made it unbearable.
Sevitis gritted her teeth.
‘Screw it. I’m drinking! I’d rather die stuffed than starved. As long as I drink fast enough, the burn won’t catch me! A real man chugs it all in one go!’
She shoved her head forward, opened her mouth as wide as possible, and started gulping directly from the wound.
This scene looked especially eerie and horrifying in the night.
“Cough! Cough! This is so spicy! I hope any species with blood this awful goes extinct on the spot!”
The white-haired girl cursed indiscriminately as she drank, tears hanging from the corners of her eyes.
……
After some time had passed.
The demon tiger’s massive corpse was visibly shriveled.
The white-haired culprit, now leaning contentedly against the tiger’s hide, found her battle dress, which had appeared from who knows where, completely restored.
Her little hand gently stroked her belly, which had clearly rounded out a bit.
“Burp~”
Full.
And honestly, once she got used to the burning sensation, the demon beast’s blood became quite addictive. The taste was actually pretty good.
This counted as her first commemorative meal as a vampire.
Thank you for nature’s bounty. She would grudgingly forgive the demon tiger for this meal and stop cursing its species to extinction.
Sevitis magnanimously thought.
But she had no idea why her body’s appetite was ridiculously huge.
This was way too much. If every Blood Demon had such a large appetite, even the entire human race combined wouldn’t be enough for them to drink.
Was it really her own problem?
She could only pray that it was because she was newly embraced and her body was lacking nutrients.
Otherwise, she didn’t dare imagine how she would survive in the future.
It wasn’t like she could spend every day crouching in the forest like a wild bat, fighting demon beasts to fill her stomach.
As for drinking human blood, she hadn’t even considered it.
She wasn’t crazy enough to run around human territory like that brainless female vampire. Did she have a death wish?
But luckily, even if her appetite was exaggerated, it wasn’t so exaggerated that she could drink an entire Fourth Rank demon tiger dry.
And sure enough, she’d only drunk about half of it. It was already terrifying enough that her small body could hold that much.
Of course, she didn’t waste any. Having grown up in an orphanage, Sevitis knew waste was shameful.
So she packed the remaining blood into her storage space as emergency rations.
Good thing she had the foresight to bring more than one spatial bag before she left.
With the hunger problem solved, it was time to finally study this thing…
Sevitis managed to cross her legs and sit up.
She concentrated her magic on her back, and her red pupils began to heat up and transform.
Focusing on her raised pale little hand, a translucent status window appeared before her eyes again:
