“Hey! Anna Medias! This wasn’t the deal! You didn’t say there were any powerful people on this island! Why is such a strong guy here?!”
The Male Demon shouted angrily at Anna Medias. Anna Medias merely waved her hand dismissively, signaling him to be quieter as he was annoying her.
“Now, why are you getting so worked up, Brian? Can’t you see I already have the situation under control?”
Anna Medias’s arrogant words reached the Male Demon, nearly making him drop dead from rage.
That old hag! She is still acting so arrogant at a time like this! What situation do you have under control?! I don’t feel like you control anything at all! And you couldn’t even get my name right! My name is Black, not Brian! Tsk, if I had known it would turn out like this, I never would have come to defect to this senile old woman!
Black thought with resentment while keeping his expression gloomy. Even though he thought this, he did not dare express his true feelings at this moment, otherwise, Anna Medias might finish him off before she even finished off her opponent.
That being said, Black did not fully believe that Anna Medias could defeat these people. After all, while Anna Medias, a shut-in who had been hiding in the Dark Cave for over 10 years, might not know it, Black was well aware that the Holy Knight before them was none other than the famous Kolin! The man known as the Strongest Paladin of the Current Era! To think he was unlucky enough to run into him here!
Black’s already gloomy mood became even more irritable. Although Anna Medias in her prime was surely stronger than the current Kolin, she had been nursing an injury that had not healed in over 20 years! The current Anna Medias likely was not much stronger than Kolin. If this dragged on, he really did not know who would survive in the end. Of course, Black was certain that he would be the first to die long before they decided a winner.
Stealing a glance at Anna Medias as she stood off against her opponent, Black began to plan his escape. However, even if he were to run, he had to make sure Anna Medias had no time to chase him. In other words, he needed to hold out a little longer until Anna Medias was finally unable to spare a hand.
With that in mind, Black made a suggestion to Anna Medias: “…I am already injured, so I won’t hold you back. I will go and deal with that assassin, and you can handle the rest. Is that okay?”
Black’s proposal was reasonable and, by all accounts, should have been accepted. Anna Medias thought the same, but she expressed some dissatisfaction with how he addressed her.
“Brian! Did you forget? What should you call me? How could someone of your level dare to address the great Anna Medias as ‘you’! Do you want to die or what?!”
Anna Medias’s angry voice sounded piercing to Black, making the face of the already gloomy Black even darker. His mouth twitched uncontrollably, and it took a long time before he slowly replied: “…I understand, Lady Anna Medias.”
That crazy woman! What is she thinking?! She cares about this at a time like this?! It is truly unreasonable! She is just an ugly, old hag! If you hadn’t been born so long before me, there would be no way you would be lecturing me like this!
Black could only vent his frustration in his heart. After seeing Anna Medias finally nod in satisfaction, Black felt a sense of relief and manipulated the shadows to quickly swim toward Liyami. He was going to vent all the resentment he felt toward Kolin and Anna Medias onto this small assassin who dared to compete with him for control of the shadows!
On the other side, Liyami noticed that the demon called Brian had turned his target toward her. Although the opponent was at the end of his rope, Liyami did not dare let her guard down. She quickly controlled her shadow to move closer to her companions, as she did not want to be alone during a group battle.
However, Liyami was blocked by an inexplicable, transparent Magic Barrier before she reached them. On the other side of the barrier were Kolin and Lavinia, who were facing off against Anna Medias. They also noticed the situation and were preparing to come over to help break the barrier separating them.
But Anna Medias would certainly not let them have their way. She simply raised her hand slightly and released several low-to-mid-level spells. These spells were nowhere near enough to defeat Kolin and Lavinia, and likely would not even cause them any harm. Yet, Anna Medias knew very well that these spells were just meant to harass them, ensuring they could not spare the time to help Liyami.
Seeing this, Liyami was out of options. Although she felt that the barrier hindering them did not look very sturdy, and she might be able to create a small crack if she went all out, Brian, who was chasing her frantically behind her, would certainly not allow that easily.
Fortunately, she was not the only one trapped outside the barrier; Eleanor was with her. At least she was not fighting alone.
Seeing this scene, Black cursed under his breath. He never expected that old hag Anna Medias to be so petty. He only said he would deal with the assassin, but the foul woman still left a priest for him to deal with! Having no choice, Black had to find a way to keep holding on.
Liyami controlled her shadow and quickly dodged to the side, narrowly avoiding the pointed tentacles that shot out from Black’s own shadow.
Black retreated immediately after failing his surprise attack, successfully dodging another beam of light, but Liyami launched a counter-surprise attack against him.
Liyami’s shadow instantly split into several small parts, surrounding Black from all directions and launching quick strikes every now and then. Although these attacks posed no threat to Black, they definitely distracted him. After Liyami’s attacks, a beam of light would inevitably strike, leaving Black with absolutely no time to counterattack her shadow clones.
After this situation had continued for a while, Black realized that things could not go on like this. If he continued to be played around by these two little girls, he would likely be exhausted to death before he even had a chance to escape.
That was correct. Although Black told Anna Medias that he would deal with the two young girls, he was actually just buying time and never intended to defeat Liyami and Eleanor. After all, he was indeed at the end of his rope, just as Liyami thought. Let alone both of them, he was not even certain he could defeat one of them.
The reason he did this was merely to wait for someone between Anna Medias and Kolin to be injured. No matter who took the hit, they would certainly be too busy to pay attention to anything else, and that would be the best time for Black to escape.
However, based on the current situation, it was highly likely that Black would be defeated by these two little girls long before that situation arose.
Knowing that this was not a sustainable path, Black gritted his teeth and decided to exhaust all his remaining strength, leaving only a tiny bit for his escape, and repeat a trick he had used before!
On the surface, Black pretended to still be playing around with the coordinated attacks of Liyami and Eleanor, while secretly controlling the shadows in the corner. Through his practiced movements, the formless shadows in the corner gradually took on the shape of a strange figure that looked identical to the current Black.
