“What?” The Principal stood frozen in place, stunned by Ji Hongmei’s question.
“Are you not from the Wuxing Sect?”
“Of course not,” Nan Xi said, caught between laughter and tears. He pulled at his collar to show the Principal the words “Tianhe” embroidered in gold thread.
“Tianhe, Tianhe… Could it be… the Tianhe Sect?”
The Principal leaned in to observe Nan Xi’s chest. One second later, he suddenly slapped his forehead and let out a startled cry.
“Oh no, this is going to be a disaster!”
Although he did not fully understand the historical grievances between the Tianhe Sect and the Wuxing Sect, he had heard rumors that the two sects could not stand the sight of each other.
Now, they had put up a “Welcome Wuxing Sect” banner right in front of the Tianhe Sect.
Wasn’t that a blatant slap to their faces?
“Someone, come and help me! Hand me the Tianhe Sect banner we prepared!”
The Principal shouted hurriedly. He even personally channeled his qi to leap into the air, rising halfway up as he grabbed the original “Welcome Wuxing Sect” banner, preparing to tear it down.
“Principal, be careful. Watch out so you don’t throw out your back,” Nan Xi called out from below, his expression a mix of amusement and exasperation.
The Principal couldn’t be blamed for this. After all, Nan Xi hadn’t clarified his identity at the start — he hadn’t even noticed anything wrong when he first saw the banner.
‘I’m essentially a member of the Wuxing Sect at heart, after all!’
Fortunately, it was only a minor misunderstanding.
Nan Xi glanced at Ji Hongmei and the others beside him. They were slightly displeased by the accident but ultimately chose not to take their frustrations out on Daye Village School.
Every debt has its debtor, and this wasn’t the school’s fault.
It had to be said that having the Principal handle it personally made a difference.
Before long, the banner they had originally prepared, [A WARM WELCOME TO THE TEACHERS AND STUDENTS OF THE TIANHE SECT FOR VISITING OUR SCHOOL TO OBSERVE AND PROVIDE GUIDANCE], was brought to the main gate. The Principal, still hovering in midair, hung it up with his own hands.
As for Nan Xi, he stood below acting as a helpful assistant.
“The left side needs to be a little higher…”
“Right, right, right. Move the whole thing a bit further to the right…”
“That’s good. It’s hanging perfectly straight.”
Nan Xi clapped his hands and gave the Principal in the air a look that said it was finished.
The Principal withdrew his spiritual energy and slowly descended from the sky. He turned to look up at the newly hung banner alongside Nan Xi.
“There shouldn’t be any more problems now,” he said with an awkward laugh.
Luckily, they had discovered the mistake in time and avoided a major conflict.
If they had truly offended the Tianhe Sect, the reputation Daye Village School had built up over all these years would have plummeted.
Nan Xi took in the Principal’s wry smile. He shrugged, attempting to offer his old Principal a few words of comfort.
“It should be fine — “
“No, I have a problem.”
Nan Xi’s words were abruptly cut off.
The voice came from behind him. It sounded like ice from the highest heavens, cold and arrogant. In the middle of this freezing winter, it made listeners tremble.
Amidst everyone’s startled gazes, that frost-cold voice spoke again.
“What do you mean by [A WARM WELCOME TO THE TEACHERS AND STUDENTS OF THE TIANHE SECT FOR VISITING OUR SCHOOL TO OBSERVE AND PROVIDE GUIDANCE]?”
Tsk!
Nan Xi clicked his tongue inwardly. He turned around with an expressionless face to look at the speaker. As expected, standing behind him were the Wuxing Sect disciples they had encountered yesterday.
And standing at the front of the group…
“What a coincidence, Hall Master Hua,” Nan Xi said with a contemptuous sneer, unhesitatingly meeting Huazhu’s magnificent rose-red eyes.
To be honest, he did not like those eyes.
Every time he saw her, an unpleasant emotion rose in Nan Xi’s heart. He felt like punching her twice right then and there, turning that beautiful face of hers into a panda.
Regardless, he was now a Peak Master of the Tianhe Sect.
Beating up people from the Wuxing Sect wouldn’t count as internal fighting, so he wouldn’t be dragged back by the Sect Master for disciplinary action.
“Hmph, why is it you again?” Huazhu snorted coldly. She turned her gaze away arrogantly, as if even making eye contact with Nan Xi would soil her sight.
“And why can’t I be here?”
“Hmph, I’m not like certain people who shamelessly follow the Wuxing Sect. They go wherever we go,” Huazhu said dismissively, her tone full of contempt.
“Oh? Let’s get one thing straight. We, the people of the Tianhe Sect, arrived first today. You guys are the ones who shamelessly followed us.”
Nan Xi raised his hand and gave Huazhu a thumbs-down.
Their gazes met in midair, sparks flying. It looked as though they might strike at each other at any moment, triggering an earth-shattering battle.
Seeing this, the Principal couldn’t stay still.
If they started fighting at the entrance of Daye Village School, what would happen if the main gate was destroyed?
Even a fight was a small matter — if they offended both the Tianhe Sect and the Wuxing Sect at the same time, Daye Village School would have to disband and flee to a distant land by tomorrow.
He took a step forward, attempting to dissuade the two from getting serious.
“Ahem, please, you two, calm down. Calm down. Both the Tianhe Sect and the Wuxing Sect are our honored guests. Don’t fight here; don’t let it ruin the harmony!”
“Principal, shut up!”
Nan Xi and Huazhu spoke in unison. It had to be said that, on this one point, the two actually shared a rare moment of chemistry.
“Oh, this is…”
The Principal was rebuffed. He didn’t dare go forward again to stop the bickering pair.
He took half a step back and turned his gaze toward the disciples of the Tianhe Sect and Wuxing Sect, who had been standing by watching the show.
Of course, the two sects were standing very far apart. A clear boundary line separated the two groups, like the Chu River and Han Border in a game of chess. Crossing even a single step felt like a capital offense.
“Everyone, can you please help me out? Try to talk some sense into your seniors.”
“There’s nothing I can do.” Ji Hongmei shook her head helplessly. She was only a disciple, after all; she couldn’t interfere with Nan Xi’s decisions.
“Impossible,” Luluo said succinctly.
Suddenly, her small face tilted upward as she looked at the banner still hanging in the air.
“Senior, it’s a good thing you’re here. I also wanted to ask you what this banner is all about.”
“This, this, this…”
The Principal’s old face turned pale instantly. He hurriedly gestured to the Elders, and they pulled the “Warmly Welcome Wuxing Sect” banner they had just put away back out.
But as soon as they pulled it out, Ji Hongmei became unhappy.
“Senior, I won’t say anything about hanging their banner, but their banner is hanging above ours. What is the meaning of this?”
“Ah, this…” The Principal hurriedly gave directions. “Change it! We’ll change it right now!”
“Wait? Why should the Tianhe Sect banner be on top? Our Wuxing Sect can be lower than anyone else, but we will not be one step below the Tianhe Sect!”
“Fine, fine. We’ll swap them immediately.”
“You Tianhe Sect people really don’t know how to appreciate a favor, do you? We already agreed to let your banner hang alongside ours. What more do you want?”
“You want to fight? Who’s afraid of who!”
“Bring it on!”
It was over.
The Principal slapped his forehead.
Looking at the two great sects who had already drawn their weapons and were pointing them at each other, he had to admit that inviting both sects at the same time was the worst decision he had ever made in his life.
