Just as Blazing Flame was thinking this, a mysterious figure wearing a black cloak suddenly charged out from the side, aimed a gun at Blazing Flame, and pulled the trigger without hesitation.
“Bang!”
After hearing the sound of the bullet, Blazing Flame frowned slightly.
She dodged the shot by sidestepping and immediately rushed to the side of the mysterious figure.
The mysterious figure fired the gun in a panic, but was easily dodged by Blazing Flame, who didn’t even use any acceleration.
After a few blinks, Blazing Flame arrived beside the mysterious figure, snatched the gun from its hand, and then threw a punch at its head without hesitation.
With one punch, the mysterious figure fell to the ground as expected.
However, what made Blazing Flame feel strange was that the sensation of the punch she threw was quite odd; it didn’t feel like hitting a solid object at all.
To use a metaphor, it was like throwing a punch into a basin filled with ice-cold water, feeling no resistance whatsoever.
“Cough, cough, cough… No… This is my supreme masterpiece, you cannot destroy it!”
The fallen mysterious figure coughed dryly, muttering words of unclear meaning.
Blazing Flame was stunned for a moment, then quickly realized that the masterpiece the mysterious figure mentioned referred to Sapphire in her Emotion Outburst, and she couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
“Masterpiece? Don’t get it twisted. Sapphire is a companion of us Humans, not a work of art for you Night Demon Lackeys.”
“No… I won’t allow you to insult the Night Lord!”
Upon hearing his lifelong purpose evaluated this way by Blazing Flame, an unprecedented Power suddenly erupted from the mysterious figure’s weak body.
He lunged forward bravely, his right hand carrying a pitch-black energy ball containing immense energy, smashing it violently toward Blazing Flame’s body.
This time, his speed was so fast that even Blazing Flame couldn’t react in time.
But strangely, after that dangerous-looking pitch-black energy ball hit Blazing Flame, she didn’t have even the slightest reaction of discomfort.
Her physical functions were completely normal, her brain heard no strange whispers, and there wasn’t even a single wound on her entire body.
Even the mysterious figure himself hadn’t expected that his final death-lunge would have absolutely no effect on Blazing Flame.
However, the mysterious figure soon realized the reason.
It looked at the unharmed Blazing Flame and reached out its hand unwillingly, murmuring.
“Night Lord… Why… is this?”
After finishing these intermittent words, the mysterious figure instantly went still.
Its extended right hand fell limply to the ground, and its entire body quietly vanished, turning into a pool of viscous, odorless black liquid that flowed on the ground as if it were alive.
“…So the Nightmare Monster was actually here?”
Seeing the appearance after death, Blazing Flame immediately understood the true identity of this mysterious figure.
She hadn’t expected the Nightmare Monster she had been pursuing for so long would ambush Sapphire and Meteor in a place like this.
Its scheme almost succeeded…
Blazing Flame let out a long sigh. She raised her hand to check the battery on her Bracelet, looked at the Crowd of Ordinary People who had fallen into a deep sleep in the Great Hall and the unconscious Sapphire, then walked out of the Warehouse.
Just as she arrived outside the White Warehouse, Blazing Flame saw Meteor floating in mid-air, anxiously spinning in place, seemingly waiting for the outcome of the battle inside the White Warehouse.
Blazing Flame smiled and waved, taking the initiative to greet her.
Upon seeing Blazing Flame safely exit the White Warehouse, Meteor immediately flew toward her and asked urgently.
“Blazing Flame! You’re not hurt, are you?! Nothing went wrong inside, right?!”
“Don’t worry, everything is fine. The Nightmare Monster is dead, Sapphire has stopped her Emotion Outburst, and not a single one of the Ordinary People inside died.” Blazing Flame said with a smile, “It’s a happy ending.”
“Ah… Yeah! Thank you, Blazing Flame!”
Meteor was stunned at first, then nodded vigorously at Blazing Flame with a look of pleasant surprise, constantly expressing her gratitude.
She knew very well that if Blazing Flame hadn’t ignored her own safety to charge in and fight Sapphire, many, many innocent people in City A would have died.
Fortunately, Blazing Flame’s decisiveness saved everything.
A wave of lingering fear washed over Meteor, along with a trace of guilt for her previous weakness.
If she had stayed in the White Warehouse just now, would she have been able to help?
“You’re welcome, it’s what I should do.” Blazing Flame waved her hand with a smile. “Go inside and clean up the mess. I’m leaving first.”
“Eh? You’re not staying?” Meteor asked in surprise.
“No, my Magic Power is almost depleted. I don’t want others to see my true appearance, so I’ll head out first.” Blazing Flame explained.
“Oh… I see.” Meteor realized.
Blazing Flame had always hidden her true identity, showing herself in her Transformation state every time they met.
Blazing Flame probably had her own secrets.
“By the way, Meteor. Remember to fire a few random shots after you find the guns; it’ll make the report easier to write.”
Before leaving, Blazing Flame seemed to remember something and made a joke with Meteor using a classic movie line.
Gazing at Blazing Flame’s fading back, Meteor was lost in thought for a few seconds before frowning and muttering to herself.
“Is, is she mocking the fact that Miss didn’t help at all?”
“Ugh… She has a point. Miss actually can’t refute it!”
After leaving the vicinity of the White Warehouse, Blazing Flame arrived at an empty Park and sat down on a bench, rubbing her eyes with a weary expression.
The previous battle had consumed far too much in terms of both energy and Magic Power.
Blazing Flame wished she could just take two steps and be back in her Dormitory, tucked into her warm little bed, comfortably closing her eyes to wait for tomorrow.
But unfortunately, she was currently in the Satellite City south of City A, not near the School.
“Hah…”
“The great Hero who saved City A shouldn’t be sighing here, Blazing Flame.”
Pandora, who had been waiting outside for Blazing Flame for a long time, quietly appeared by her side and teased her in a flat tone.
Looking at the suddenly appearing Pandora, Blazing Flame was silent for a few seconds before placing the mass of black liquid in her hand on the bench and clapping her hands at her.
“This mass of black liquid is the Nightmare Monster Core, right?”
“Yes. Not long after you entered that White Warehouse, I could no longer sense the Nightmare Monster’s presence.” Pandora replied, “There’s no doubt that this damned fellow is dead.”
“I see. Then it seems tonight’s mission objective was successfully completed.” Blazing Flame let out a long sigh. “Without the Nightmare Monster, those missing guns should be recovered soon, and I can finally rest easy.”
“…Are you not happy, Blazing Flame?”
Pandora noticed the abnormality in Blazing Flame’s words and asked her while licking the black liquid with her tongue.
So, why didnt the Nightmare Demon last attack work? Hmm… sus
