Another teammate looked at Li Ang with contempt.
The group chatted for a while, then officially got into position.
Lyle glanced at the holographic screen on his wrist, his eyes narrowing slightly.
“The nearest Containment Item to us is 146: Silence! Only 567 meters away.”
Li Ang and his companion’s previously relaxed faces instantly stiffened.
“Silence!”
A special high-risk Containment Object!
A Special Containment Object is a type of item that could potentially endanger the world.
But generally speaking, they don’t have the desire to attack proactively, and their threat doesn’t spread much.
Just like the Smiling Angel.
It drags people into an illusion not to kill them.
If you don’t do anything special, a person could truly spend their entire life in that dream, growing old and dying normally.
But that would lead to the extinction of humanity, so it must be contained.
To deal with it, you only need to stay at least one meter away, and you’ll be safe.
But Silence is an exception among these Containment Objects.
It’s special—highly dangerous!
Not only does it have the power to endanger the entire world, but there are hardly any effective ways to restrain it.
“Its most recent form is a little girl dressed in white, though she appears as an adult, extremely beautiful, with the appearance of an Eastern woman.”
“Its trait is that it’s extremely afraid of sound. Even a heartbeat becomes deafening in her ears.”
“If startled by any noise, she will escape, and the same trait will automatically be imposed on whoever disturbed her.”
“And anyone who has this trait imposed on them will, in the end, find all sounds in their ears unbearably loud, unable to think, unable to sleep, and die in terror.”
“Also, Silence itself cannot be killed.”
“If you kill the little girl, one random person who has the same trait imposed on them will become the new ‘Silence.’”
“The containment method is to have deaf people use a fully enclosed, portable house made of the world’s most soundproof material to contain her.”
“But in this current chaos, there’s simply no time to prepare…”
“Seriously, this is unbelievably terrifying. You can’t kill her, and even containment is difficult. Compared to her, the Smiling Angel really does seem like an angel.”
***
Li Ang let out a dry laugh, then took out a keychain featuring Lu Ming’s likeness.
“But Her Highness, the Goddess, will protect me!”
“Hiss, Li Ang, where did you buy that keychain? Hoarding it all for yourself, huh!”
“Hehe, not telling you. It’s a secret. Tomorrow my custom-made Goddess body pillow will arrive!”
“Be careful Rain doesn’t kill you with an Elemental Attack.”
Rain remained silent, quietly listening to the two of them joke.
Ever since she began believing in Her Highness, the Goddess of Life, she felt her mind was extremely peaceful, with very little that could disturb her.
And there was always a constant yearning for Her.
“I’ve reported to the Containment Facility that we’ve encountered Silence. Next, it’s up to us to contain it!”
Lyle took a deep breath and spoke solemnly.
“Take out the items for dealing with Silence.”
“It’s risky, but fortunately we have Containment Items specially developed by the Facility.”
Previously, the Facility had tried to use Containment Object 703: Immortal to rewrite Silence’s rules.
But they hadn’t had time to experiment, so whether it worked was completely unknown.
The group produced a small device with a unique structure, covered in many special holes.
“Silence is moving. Let’s get ready to act.”
***
Lyle was the first to activate the device.
He spoke two sentences.
But no sound came out at all, as if the words had been absorbed.
Lyle only felt an intense silence—even his own heartbeat seemed impossible to hear.
Seeing this, the other three also activated the little device.
The group began communicating with hand signals instead.
After turning a corner, a factory came into view.
In the corner of a wall, dozens of meters away, a little girl in white was curled up tightly.
She held a small teddy bear in her hands.
She seemed to be sobbing, but with every sob, her body trembled, as if frightened.
“So this is Silence…”
“If it were Her Highness, could She save her…”
Upon seeing Silence, Rain suddenly asked in her heart.
Li Ang and the other teammate, upon seeing it in person, were completely frozen.
They didn’t dare to move at all, cold sweat unconsciously dripping down their foreheads.
***
Lyle gently touched Rain’s shoulder, signaling her to hand him the extra device.
Receiving the spare silencing device, Lyle took a deep breath.
“Now, we just have to slowly approach Silence and put the device on her.”
But… would it really go so smoothly?
Suddenly, this thought jumped into Lyle’s mind.
The other three held their breath, not daring to make a single sound.
Just as Lyle was about to get within two meters of Silence—
***
A burst of unexpected noise exploded out.
Intense gunfire rapidly drew closer, accompanied by several angry, gritted-shout voices.
Lyle’s heart sank—It’s over!
The deafening noise made Silence’s body convulse and tremble violently.
She kept sobbing and whimpering, occasionally letting out a low roar.
It was as if she was enduring unbearable torment.
The gunfire only lasted a moment.
After Silence let out a pained howl, everything fell abruptly silent.
Replaced by wave after wave of desperate screams.
Lyle’s face turned grim as he looked toward the direction from which the gunfire had come.
Several Containment Facility staff members were sprawled on the ground, faces twisted in agony, clutching their ears.
They writhed in pain, and the more they struggled, the more intense their suffering became.
Dozens of Dolls jerked their stiff joints, standing straight up from the ground in a bizarre way.
They seemed to possess self-awareness.
Their bodies were riddled with bullet holes, but this didn’t affect their movements at all.
They ran directly over to the fallen staff. Because their movements were so stiff and crowded, their plastic limbs snapped and fell all over the place.
Under the complex gazes of the others, those staff members’ limbs were ripped off by the Dolls with a sharp tear.
Just like dismantling a plastic arm.
Blood sprayed, staining the Dolls’ plastic limbs red.
They scrambled to jam the torn-off limbs into their own missing spots.
***
Li Ang’s abdomen spasmed and he couldn’t help but retch a couple of times.
But luckily, the noise didn’t disturb Silence.
Frightened, he tightened his belt and forced down his discomfort.
Lyle and Rain both turned away, unable to bear watching.
Lyle’s heart ached. His left hand slowly moved to the Death Revolver—then he lowered it again.
His brows knitted tight.
“All we can do is watch our companions be slaughtered—completely powerless?”
“I hate my own helplessness.”
“But against the strange, we are far too small…”
