Since arriving in Solus City, Lita had gradually gotten used to waking up amidst the gentle scent of soap, the aged aroma of wood, and a faint hint of mildew in the inn.
Yet, as she groggily sat up from the bed, the scene before her eyes differed from what her memory held.
An expensive red velvet carpet was laid across the wooden floor beneath the bed, a layer of gem-stitched sheer curtains dimmed the glaring morning light, and even the bed beneath her—usually stiff against her waist—was unusually soft.
No! This wasn’t her room!
At that moment, Lita’s hand accidentally brushed against something soft and warm.
Mechanically turning her head, she found a girl sleeping soundly beside her.
The girl’s pale golden hair cascaded naturally across the pillow, the morning sunlight filtering through the window and curtains casting sparse shadows from her long lashes onto her porcelain-like delicate cheeks.
At this moment, the girl resembled a doll carefully kept in a finely crafted wooden box, and her presence added charm to the already lavish room.
The pure white quilt and the girl’s golden hair together concealed her body, but through the strands of hair, Lita could still glimpse the girl’s slender shoulders.
Lita then looked down at her own slightly disheveled clothes and fell into thought.
Could it be that she got drunk last night and brought this girl back… or was it the girl who took her away?
No, that couldn’t be! In both her past life and now, Lita was a teetotaler.
Then, could she have accidentally drunk some Love Potion—even one bubbling with pink bubbles—and then…
That was even more impossible!
Even if she ever dosed anyone, Lita was always the one giving the Love Potion, not receiving it!
The reason Lita was so confident she couldn’t be affected was because of her own nature.
She wasn’t an ordinary human, but a Dream Demon.
Yes, the kind who lures prey with sweet dreams and then gets intimate with them.
A pair of black wings, no longer than her forearms, curled around Lita’s lower back, and a black tail ending in a heart shape obediently coiled beneath her—the distinctive marks of a Dream Demon.
Though not long ago she was still an ordinary aspiring youth from the real world, due to an accident…
Now was not the time to reminisce about past glories! A new accident had appeared! Lita couldn’t afford to be stagnant!
She could recall a bit of what had happened last night.
Last night.
Nightlife only stirred in the taverns and brothels where adventurers gathered, most people having already fallen asleep with the coming darkness.
But the night was also Lita’s best cover.
She fluttered her small wings silently, leaving her room to hunt for tonight’s prey.
As a Dream Demon, Lita had her professional ethics.
First, she only nibbled on necks to leave a strawberry mark at most, never escalating to those explicit scenes.
Second, she only got close to cute girls.
The inn was the perfect hunting ground, teeming with all kinds of people.
Ignoring the nature of their affairs, subtle traces on their bodies were hard to notice.
Even if guests noticed, no one would imagine that the little Dream Demon attacking them lived in the same inn.
Before long, Lita had locked onto tonight’s target.
Judging by her appearance, she might be a lady from some wealthy family passing through.
Even better—passersby wouldn’t delay their journey just because Lita had taken a few bites.
But no matter who she was, it didn’t change the fact that she was about to become Lita’s prey.
Lita quietly landed on the windowsill, faint pink mist slowly seeping from the heart-shaped tip of her tail, drifting through the window crack and filling the room, enveloping the golden-haired girl’s bed.
This was a Dream Demon’s special ability, serving many purposes: confusing the mind, lowering defenses, enhancing desire, blurring memories—so versatile it was like an all-in-one shampoo.
Lita didn’t even know what this ability was truly called, so she just referred to it as Enchantment Aura.
Patiently waiting a few more minutes to ensure her Enchantment Aura had taken effect, Lita then slipped through the window and settled beside the girl’s bed.
Rubbing her hands together, she muttered in her heart, “I’m starting,” and prepared to begin her meal.
At that moment, the girl on the bed suddenly opened her eyes, her cold fingers immediately gripping Lita’s tail.
Lita’s heart clenched as if being squeezed together with her tail; her breath caught for a moment, and the rapid pounding of her heartbeat became the only sound in the room.
In the rhythm of her heartbeat, the girl holding Lita’s tail slowly sat up, resting her back against the headboard, then glanced lightly over the faint pink mist still lingering around the bed—and at the heart-shaped tail curled tightly beneath Lita.
“Visiting so late at night is a bit rude, isn’t it?” the girl spoke in a light, robin-like voice.
No anger, no panic—only a calmness as if she saw through everything.
But this confident calmness was suffocating. In that instant, fear drowned out Lita’s hunger.
“A… lost little Dream Demon?” The golden-haired girl raised her other hand, gently brushing the golden hair hanging by her cheek while squeezing the tail in her hand tighter. “And, you seem very hungry?”
She’d been recognized!
Being caught as a Dream Demon meant the gloomy Duke’s Dungeon was the better outcome.
More likely, Lita would be sent to the Gallows, the Auction House, or worse, some Noble’s Bedroom.
Lita had fled all the way from the Demon Territory to prevent such a fate!
It was over! Completely over!
Lita’s mind went blank.
Words of explanation hovered on her lips but felt hollow, and though she wanted to escape, her tail was still in the girl’s grasp.
Attacking her now would be tantamount to declaring war against the entire human city that didn’t welcome monsters.
Shrinking back, Lita’s voice trembled, “I… I’m not, I didn’t, don’t say that…”
That penetrating gaze seemed to see right through Lita, while the fingers gripping her tail tightened slightly, sending an unmistakable warning not to struggle.
A tingling numbness radiated from the tip of her tail, making Lita’s legs go weak and forcing a heavily suppressed moan from her lips.
That moan seemed to pique the girl’s interest.
She leaned forward slightly, her cold face looming larger before Lita’s eyes.
But her face brushed past Lita’s, and her icy lips pressed against Lita’s ear.
“You originally planned to use me to fill your stomach tonight, didn’t you?” The girl’s fingertips gently stroked the tip of Lita’s tail, warm breath falling softly. “So, in exchange, how shall I deal with you?”
At this point, passively waiting was a dead end.
Lita knew she had to act.
“W-well…” Lita pitifully began, eyes shimmering with tears as she blinked several times, “My tail… it feels so uncomfortable…”
The girl clearly heard Lita’s plea but seemed to ignore it, playing with the black tail in her hand again and again, causing Lita to suck in several sharp breaths.
Thankfully, she still held back her embarrassing moans.
This woman! She was deliberately pretending not to hear!
The roles of hunter and prey had reversed.
However, being too careless would cost dearly!
Though the Dream Demon’s tail was a sensitive spot, it was also her greatest weapon!
As the girl nonchalantly toyed with Lita’s tail, the heart-shaped tip trembled in her hand and suddenly exploded in thick clouds of pink mist, instantly enveloping the girl.
Hmph! This was an overdose of Enchantment Aura.
Anyone who inhaled it would turn into a babbling little fool.
Whether such a large dose would leave side effects or reveal Lita’s presence was beyond her control.
Still, it was better than being captured outright.
As the girl was shrouded in the Enchantment Aura, Lita felt the grip on her tail loosen considerably.
Seizing the moment, Lita abruptly pulled her tail back, spread her wings, and darted toward the window.
Before she could get far, a stronger grip seized her tail, and in the flash of numbness, she was dragged back and thrown onto the bed.
The girl’s weight followed, pressing fully on Lita’s waist.
Seeing the girl riding her with flushed cheeks, two thoughts simultaneously flashed through Lita’s mind.
The good news: her Enchantment Aura had indeed worked this time.
The bad news: tonight, the prey might be herself.
