Although that “Mark” Lilith left behind is really quite an eyesore no matter how you look at it, she wasn’t wrong—it’s indeed quite useful in some respects.
A new status called “Mark of Life” had appeared in Su Yao’s status screen, and its skill description was pretty much just as Lilith had explained.
(Mark of Life from a Succubus: A mark left by the Succubus race on a favored person or prey, enabling them to monitor the target’s location and physical condition at any time, and absorb magic power for “Demon Summoning” if necessary.)
Aside from the rather embarrassing design and placement, the “Mark” did indeed heighten his physical senses.
For example, right now, Su Yao could feel his body heating up even more—not to be misunderstood, this wasn’t any sort of “estrus.” If anything, it was shyness…
“Couldn’t you have picked a better spot to leave this ‘Mark’? Why my… why on my stomach?”
If Chlorel saw this pattern on his lower abdomen tonight, how was he supposed to explain it?
“Sorry, Master, I can’t actually control where the pattern appears. It usually shows up in places where the magic flow is most active. For humans, that’s generally near the heart, but your body seems to be special…”
Hah, believing Lilith’s words again would make him a fool, but it did seem this succubus really didn’t have any bad intentions this time.
“Alright, you’ve left your ‘Mark.’ Now it’s time to tell me about the ‘Demon Gods.'”
Chlorel and Sofia had already left the room as she requested, and now that he’d fulfilled his side of the bargain, he hoped the information she’d provide would be worthwhile.
“No problem. First, I need to correct you, Master—there are no ‘Gods’ in this world. Even those winged bird-men in the ‘Heaven Realm’ are just fakes who claim to be ‘Gods.'”
That made sense enough. As a materialist, Su Yao didn’t believe in gods or demons anyway.
But “winged bird-men”? She must mean “angels,” right?
“‘Demon Gods’ actually all hail from the ‘Demon Realm.’ Tens of thousands of years ago, powerful Greater Demons gathered their own forces and fought for territory. Those who failed, or who didn’t want to fight, came to the human world.”
So that’s it. That red-haired woman who claimed to be a “Demon God” must be a Greater Demon.
No wonder her strength was so outrageous—she was a Legendary Monster that cost five hundred thousand DP to summon in the shop.
“That’s not entirely accurate, though. They’re the oldest group of demons, and their strength is far above that of ordinary Greater Demons.”
Fine. Even if monsters requiring five hundred thousand DP to summon are called “Greater Demons,” there are differences among them.
Ordinary Greater Demons probably wouldn’t stand a chance against that red-haired woman—Su Yao was lucky to have escaped from her.
“As for the ‘Demon King’ you mentioned, that’s just a legend circulating in the ‘Demon Realm.’ It’s said that during a great war tens of thousands of years ago, someone gathered or summoned seventy-two Greater Demons. Later, he was called the Demon King, and those seventy-two Greater Demons claimed themselves as the Seventy-Two Demon Gods.”
“Seventy-Two…”
Su Yao murmured.
Those words matched exactly the title that woman had given. But that wasn’t the main point—the Demon King who led the Seventy-Two Demon Gods…
Could his name possibly be that legendary one?
It seemed suspicious. Was this legendary Demon King really human?
After all, it was a legend from tens of thousands of years ago; mistakes in the records were possible.
Maybe, the Demon King was a Dungeon Core that had awakened thousands of years before her, and, by chance, also became humanoid.
Not only that, but the Demon King even knew the legend of Solomon.
That meant he could very well be a “human” from the same world as her!
“What happened afterward? What became of the Demon King?”
Su Yao couldn’t deny her curiosity at learning that someone else might hail from her own world.
But Lilith’s next words promptly poured cold water on her rising interest.
“The legendary Demon King vanished without a trace. There are many theories as to why, but most agree he was slain by someone. The Demon Gods suffered a similar fate.”
Of course, the idea that the Demon King was a Dungeon Core was just her guess. Even if she was right, “living for tens of thousands of years” seemed unrealistic.
Normally, the Demon King would already be gone.
As for his Demon Gods—some disguised themselves as humans and mingled among the populace, others returned to the “Demon Realm” to hide away, or, as Lilith said, were hunted down.
Su Yao had only encountered Buer purely by a stroke of “incredible luck.”
That one had nothing to do with the True Ancestor—she’d just happened to appear beside that idiot prince…
But there’s another possibility: the Demon King isn’t dead.
Although the endless years have diminished the Demon Gods’ numbers, his forces remain strong.
The True Ancestor, the Demon Gods—they might all be his pawns.
As for his goal, it’s still unclear, but judging from how he keeps stirring up conflict, it can’t be anything good.
The first explanation was the most reasonable; the latter was a bit too “conspiratorial.”
Regardless, the Demon Gods’ identities were now clear.
She’d finally glimpsed a piece of this world’s hidden truths.
“Thank you, Lilith. But why can’t Chlorel and the others know about this information?”
“I’m only contracted with you, Master. Besides, it’s not good for humans to know too much about the Demon Realm’s legacy. There are forces in this world that can erase these ‘legends.'”
Fine, she could accept that reason for now.
“By the way, Lilith, you’re not just any ordinary Succubus, are you? If you tell me your true identity, I might reward you with a pair of panties~”
“Really? Actually, I’m—”
“No! You foolish loli, leave you alone with Lilith for just a bit and this is what happens!”
“Miss Su Yao, a lady shouldn’t give away her undergarments!”
Damn it, as expected, Chlorel and Sofia didn’t obediently stay away.
She only said she’d reward Lilith with a pair of panties—she never said whose panties they were! Why did they have to pick up on that?!
“Chlorel, we agreed you wouldn’t eavesdrop on my conversation with Lilith! And Sofia, weren’t you supposed to keep an eye on her? What happened?”
So much for trust between people!
Chlorel was one thing, but what about Sofia? Wasn’t she supposed to be the upright and pure knight girl?
Su Yao had to admit she was a little scared of the strong and bullied the weak, so she could only put on a disappointed expression and look at the white-haired, red-eyed beauty.
“Miss Su Yao, I-I’m terribly sorry, um…”
“Don’t blame Sofia! We weren’t eavesdropping on purpose! Here, this is for you.”
Chlorel tossed over the “Magic Phone,” and Eveleel’s voice came from inside.
“Miss Su Yao, my brother has already left Moravia. Please, defeat him as planned.”
