He’s drug dealer
Zhou Xiaoheng was furious and agitated.
“My brother doesn’t have any illegitimate children at all. Where on earth did this green-haired little girl suddenly come from? Judging by her looks, she’s clearly not a decent person. Even if my brother had other children, he would have raised them properly. How could they turn out like her—such a mess?”
Yu Song, who had been waiting outside, overheard his words and rushed in without a second thought.
“What about me? No matter what, I’m far better than you. Someone like you… no wonder…”
She sized up Zhou Xiaoheng with Yan Yi’s sharp gaze, then snorted lightly and shook her head.
Zhou Xiaoheng was so infuriated by her look that he stomped his feet.
“What are you snorting about? What’s wrong with me? I graduated from a prestigious foreign university and have been working at Zhou Group for three years. And you? Who even are you? Coming here to cause trouble and falsely claiming kinship.”
Yu Song’s eyes were full of disdain.
At that moment, Ji Jiang, seeing her rush in abruptly and start arguing with Zhou Xiaoheng, was about to ask her to leave.
Unexpectedly, she turned to him and asked, “Officer Ji, what kind of person would just say they graduated from a prestigious foreign university? If it really was a prestigious school, wouldn’t they proudly name it? Like Cambridge, Harvard, MIT—wouldn’t saying the school’s name be more impressive than just saying ‘prestigious university’?”
Ji Jiang frowned.
What she said made sense, but the interrogation room wasn’t the place for arguments.
He was about to urge Yu Song to leave when she quickly added, “Unless he went to some impressive-sounding diploma mill, or got in through improper means, that’s why he’s vague and afraid to say which school he graduated from. And for someone who graduated years ago, why stress that it was a prestigious school? Does he have nothing else to brag about?”
Zhou Xiaoheng, boiling with rage, suddenly swung his palm toward her.
“Say one more word and I’ll…”
Ji Jiang stretched out his long hand and blocked him.
“Alright, alright, you dare to throw hands in the Criminal Investigation Unit?”
Zhou Xiaoheng cursed Yu Song through Ji Jiang, “You little bitch, don’t you dare mess with me! There’s absolutely no way our old man left a will for you to inherit. Who do you think you’re fooling here? I’m the rightful heir of the Zhou Family!”
“You?” Gu Zhiye stepped forward, cooperating.
“You’re just Zhou Yaohui’s younger brother. He has a wife and son. The inheritance doesn’t come to you.”
Yu Song sneered coldly.
“He’s second in line to inherit. He thinks that once Zhou Yaohui’s wife and son are dead, it’ll be his turn? Dream on. I have the will. The company is mine. Apart from Mrs. Zhou and her youngest son getting a bit of money, no one else gets a single cent!”
Ji Jiang just played along.
He wasn’t stupid. Seeing Yu Song and Gu Zhiye both egging Zhou Xiaoheng on, he knew they were trying to provoke him.
He didn’t agree with it but since they were already stirring the pot, he could only cooperate.
So he said to Yu Song, “Enough. Your uncle isn’t trying to fight over the inheritance with you. What’s the point of all this yelling here?”
Yu Song couldn’t help but smile inwardly.
Ji Jiang was pretty good at adding fuel to the fire. Just a casual line, and he’d easily confirmed her identity.
Zhou Xiaoheng finally lost his composure.
“What nonsense are you spouting? I don’t have a niece like her. My dad has no other children. I’m Zhou Yaohui’s eldest son.”
Yu Song feigned surprise, staring at him.
“What did you say? Isn’t Zhou Yaohui’s eldest son already dead by accident? What, are you trying to say you came back from the dead? What’s this, some kind of horror movie?”
Zhou Xiaoheng glared at her viciously, grinding his teeth and speaking each word deliberately.
“What coming back from the dead? If you have brain problems, go get treatment! I am Zhou Yaohui’s biological son. I’m older than Zhou Xiaohao, so I’m the eldest of the Zhou Family.”
Yu Song thought he wasn’t being clear enough and spat at him, “Zhou Xiaoheng, you’re so shameless for inheritance that you’d willingly play the son to your own brother.”
Zhou Xiaoheng snapped angrily, “Do you understand human speech? I’m Zhou Yaohui’s biological son. I’ve done a paternity test. My dad didn’t want to upset Zhou Xiaohao and his mother, so he said I was his brother.”
Gu Zhiye didn’t expect him to admit so quickly.
“So you’re not Zhou Yaohui’s younger brother, but his illegitimate child?”
Zhou Xiaoheng straightened his neck.
“So what if I’m illegitimate? The law says illegitimate children have inheritance rights too!”
Ji Jiang felt his head ache.
He preferred handling criminal cases; family drama like this was the last thing he wanted to deal with.
“Zhou Xiaopei, didn’t you say your parents were already legally married? That means Zhou Yaohui had an affair with your mom and had you, but he didn’t acknowledge you and had your grandfather marry your mom to make you his half-brother?”
Zhou Xiaoheng knew that once his background was revealed, everyone would look down on him, but with an illegitimate daughter suddenly appearing, he had no choice but to reveal his identity.
“My dad had no choice. His Main Wife was already emotionally distant. My mom was his true love. But whenever he mentioned divorce, the Main Wife would threaten suicide. My dad was sentimental, so my mom had to endure…”
Yu Song burst out laughing.
“Your dad sentimental, yet he let your mom put up with that? Zhou Xiaoheng, before, you were like a guard dog in front of Mrs. Zhou, calling her ‘sister-in-law’ all the time, and now you’re calling her Main Wife? You really are Zhou Yaohui’s son. No need for a paternity test—you’re equally shameless!”
Zhou Xiaoheng was fully prepared.
With a deadpan look, he sneered, “No matter what you say, I’m my dad’s biological son. And you? Where did you come from? Who’s your mother? Some bastard born from a prostitute, and you want to claim my dad?”
Yu Song shrugged and smiled leisurely.
“I’m just joking with Officer Gu here. How did you take it so seriously? My parents aren’t perfect, but they’re a legal couple. Unlike your family, where the legitimate son has to call his own father ‘brother.’ How does that make any sense?”
Zhou Xiaoheng froze for a moment, then resentment flared up.
“Damn it! You’re playing me. How dare you! I’ll kill you!”
He charged fiercely at Yu Song, his face full of rage.
Ji Jiang and Gu Zhiye each grabbed him and pushed him onto the table.
Ji Jiang even cuffed him to secure him to the chair.
Yu Song coolly asked from the side, “So impulsive and hot-tempered. Could your dad’s death have something to do with you? Did your dad screw you over too? If you really had backing and power, you wouldn’t be groveling before Mrs. Zhou… or rather, the Main Wife. Looks like your dad never really valued you.”
Zhou Xiaoheng struggled like a trapped beast.
“Shut up! Who’s groveling before her? She’s a cold-hearted, despicable woman. Her eldest son was killed by her, and so was my dad. Sooner or later, the youngest son will be killed too. I’m the son my dad cared about the most.”
“And then you get the inheritance?” Yu Song kept baiting.
“That’s right. The Zhou Family’s fortune was supposed to be mine. My dad’s true love was my mom, and I’m the eldest! But my dad only let me be a minor manager, not even sparing me a bowl of soup. Serves him right for getting killed by that bitch.”
Yu Song realized that despite Zhou Xiaoheng’s extreme anger, he still refused to admit he ordered Meng Dawei to kill.
She knew this case was going to be difficult.
She stopped questioning since it wasn’t her case anyway.
Ji Jiang watched the whole scene and looked at her in surprise.
Honestly, if he hadn’t seen Yu Song’s file, he might’ve thought she was his colleague.
She barked orders and twisted situations like a seasoned interrogator.
Gu Zhiye wasn’t surprised.
He had long noticed Yu Song’s oddness.
Most people would be nervous or scared being monitored by the police, but she came straight to them.
With her cunning, she probably guessed Mrs. Zhou’s intentions as soon as she received her call.
Yet she still foolishly fell for it and openly admitted she was greedy and after the 200,000 yuan Mrs. Zhou mentioned.
Now she was actively baiting Zhou Xiaoheng into admitting his true identity.
Without Yu Song’s performance, they would have had to investigate the Zhou Family’s genealogy, relationships, company members, one by one to find the answer—but that would waste too much time and manpower.
Seeing Zhou Xiaoheng still cursing, Gu Zhiye scolded, “Reason doesn’t come from volume.
No matter how loudly you shout, it won’t change the facts or how others see you.”
Ji Jiang said, “Zhou Xiaoheng, confess and you’ll get leniency.
Since you’ve admitted your background, don’t hold back anymore.
Start by explaining your relationship with Meng Dawei.”
Yu Song admired Ji Jiang’s quick grasp of the key issue.
No wonder he was the lead—he really had skills.
Gu Zhiye handed the interrogation room back to Ji Jiang and led Yu Song out.
“You’ve got quite a few crooked ideas in that little brain of yours, and you’re very confident. Have you long known about Zhou Xiaoheng’s relationship to Zhou Yaohui?”
Yu Song answered vaguely, “Zhou Yaohui is a public figure. Who hasn’t heard the family gossip? Everyone knows he had an illegitimate child. The moment I saw Zhou Xiaoheng today, something felt off. How to put it… he looked like a guard dog, but sometimes like a wolf, raising his tail and baring his canine teeth.”
Gu Zhiye recalled Zhou Xiaoheng’s appearance when he was brought in and chuckled.
“That’s an accurate description.”
Yu Song smiled slyly.
“He thinks he’s a wolf, but he doesn’t realize he’s the dumbest dog in the pack. Only Mrs. Zhou gets fooled by him. So I thought to team up with you to test him—and turns out I guessed right.”
“Thanks for your good idea; it saved us a lot of trouble.”
“Actually, you probably use this trick a lot, huh? All’s fair in war. Besides, you didn’t lie; I did. Officer Gu, should I try to talk to Meng Dawei again?”
Gu Zhiye hurriedly shook his head.
“Not yet. In principle, since you’re both suspects, you can’t have contact.”
Yu Song pouted, “That’s too much! I’ve helped this much, and you still call me a suspect?”
Gu Zhiye quickly explained, “Until the case is closed and you’re cleared, everyone involved is a suspect. It’s not personal.”
Yu Song knew this and didn’t mind.
Mainly, she just didn’t want to waste time on the case and wanted the results as soon as possible.
Fortunately, Mrs. Zhou didn’t disappoint.
When she learned Zhou Xiaoheng was Zhou Yaohui’s biological son, she was first stunned, then driven crazy.
“How could I be so stupid? I clearly checked their mother and child relationship but was still fooled by Zhou Yaohui.”
Her eyes went blank, her expression numb, as if she had aged ten years in an instant.
“Zhou Xiaoheng said he gave them money and houses on his dad’s orders. His dad acknowledged it too. After his mom died, his dad even married that woman. What else could I doubt? I really thought he was his brother!”
Mrs. Zhou pounded her chest in anguish.
“The entire Zhou Family colluded to deceive me! No wonder my dad had such a big child outside. His mom never made a fuss and treated Zhou Xiaoheng well! Turns out those two old bastards knew all along he was their real grandson!”
She suddenly remembered Yu Song’s words and turned pale.
“Could it be that my eldest was killed by Zhou Xiaoheng and his mother? Officer Gu, I want to go home. I want to find Xiaohao. I want to protect him.”
Seeing Gu Zhiye had already arranged protection for Zhou Xiaohao, she finally breathed a sigh of relief and immediately said, “Officer Gu, I want to report Zhou Xiaoheng. He’s a drug dealer!”
