“Why only one night?”
Lu Ren pondered for a long time but still couldn’t figure out why, so he asked Sapphire in confusion.
If the other party wanted to cause chaos, he just needed to get a gun and start wrecking havoc. Why wait a whole night?
“Blazing Flame, do you know how car thieves steal cars nowadays?”
Sapphire didn’t answer Lu Ren’s question directly. Instead, she asked him something that seemed completely unrelated.
“I don’t know, and what does stealing cars have to do with losing guns?” Lu Ren asked honestly.
He hadn’t seen anyone steal a car in years and truly had no idea how thieves did it these days.
Sapphire didn’t answer Lu Ren’s question. She simply began explaining the current methods car thieves used.
“These days, if a thief wants to steal a car, they’ll stake out the scene for over a month, picking their target.”
“The best targets are luxury cars without license plates, since those are most likely mortgaged cars. If they’re stolen, the chances of being noticed immediately are slim.”
“After confirming for an entire month that no one has driven the car away, they’ll pick the lock and get inside on the spot, swap out the plates, then drive the target vehicle straight to the border. Which border doesn’t matter—whether they strip the car for parts or sell it whole doesn’t matter either. The main thing is to get to the border as fast as possible.”
“As long as their theft isn’t discovered on the same day, tracking down that group of car thieves becomes nearly impossible.”
“Because they only need a single day to drive the car to the border and get rid of the hot potato.”
Listening to Sapphire’s well-reasoned explanation, Lu Ren was stunned.
He never expected that even car thieves these days were so professional and efficient.
Wait a minute.
How does Sapphire know all this so clearly?
With her status and personality, she shouldn’t have been involved in such risky business, right?
“How do you know so much about this? Don’t tell me you once helped solve a case like that?”
Still, just in case, Lu Ren decided to ask Sapphire where she’d learned such obscure knowledge.
“Back when the sub-bureau was short on staff, they asked me to help out. After catching those car thieves, they spilled everything for a lighter sentence. They ended up getting eight years.” Sapphire replied.
“I see…”
Hearing Sapphire’s explanation, Lu Ren nodded, not feeling any suspicion.
He still didn’t quite get why Sapphire had suddenly brought up such a strange topic, but learning something new was always good.
Thinking this, Lu Ren suddenly had a flash of inspiration and quickly understood what Sapphire meant.
Actually, what Sapphire wanted to say was simple: for troublesome cases like car theft or lost guns, time was the most important factor.
If it takes one day to drive a luxury car to the border, then how long would it take for a stolen gun to reach the designated city for assassinating an important figure or blowing up an oil drum?
Probably just half a day.
That’s precisely why Sapphire said that as long as they could recover all the lost guns before tonight, there wouldn’t be any casualties.
She was betting that the Nightmare Demon wanted to use this batch of guns to incite a massive riot, and that the enemy wouldn’t just recklessly kill people, but would only create easily obtainable panic.
Lu Ren understood everything. He immediately grabbed his Dormitory Key and the Official Phone, glanced at the Fox Cub on the desk, and took it with him as well.
“Hey! I want to watch the news! Put me down!”
“I’ll let you watch it all day tomorrow! I need your help tonight!”
“Help? Ah, you want me to go with you to eliminate Shadow Beasts, right!” Pandora, who had seemed listless earlier, suddenly perked up. “No problem! Leave it to me! I love seeing the whole Shadow Beast scene unfold!”
“Great! I’m counting on you then, Pandora!”
After replying casually, Lu Ren quickly made his way to the Dining Hall, wolfed down a plate of pork knuckle rice, then took the School Shuttle to the school gate, pulling out his phone to check the latest updates as he left.
Meteor still hadn’t made any move, but based on Lu Ren’s understanding of Sapphire and Meteor, he guessed Sapphire had probably already informed Meteor.
Meteor might even already be at the scene of the gun theft.
So what should he do to retrieve the lost guns before disaster struck?
“Sapphire, just tell me what you need me to do. I have no classes these two days and plenty of time to deal with these damn monsters.”
“I’ve been waiting for you to say that, Blazing Flame.”
Sapphire replied to Lu Ren instantly, then sent an address via chat and stated her request.
Lu Ren took a deep breath, focusing intently on Sapphire’s message.
“I visited the family of three who were hospitalized due to food poisoning. They’re all certain they felt fine after returning home, but before losing consciousness, each of them felt their rooms turn pitch black—they couldn’t see a thing.”
“Also, according to our questioning, the child’s father said he fainted in his room, but according to the neighbors, he was found unconscious on the sofa.”
“So, I have reason to suspect they were the first ones affected by the monster. It’s very likely the Shadow Beast controlled them to take something.”
“Neither Meteor nor I have the ability to sense abnormal magical power, so could you go to their house and see if you can detect any Shadow Beast magic?”
So I need to investigate the possible first crime scene myself…
Looking at Sapphire’s request, Lu Ren replied without hesitation.
“No problem, I’ll head over now. After I’m done investigating, am I free to act on my own or should I join you two to look for traces of the guns?”
“Personally, I’d like you to help us look for the lost guns, but in terms of the bigger picture, I’d rather you move freely and follow your instincts and whatever clues you find.”
“You want me to use this opportunity to track down the monster, and then follow the trail to find the missing guns, right?” Lu Ren smiled, understanding Sapphire’s intent.
“I’m glad you understand. If there are no other questions, then from this moment on, the mission officially begins, Blazing Flame.”
“Alright! I’ll do my best to find that damn monster!”
After replying to Sapphire, Lu Ren headed straight to an empty alley outside the school, gripping the Red Star Pendant on his Dormitory Key tightly, and called out resolutely.
“Transformation!”
And Pandora, who had followed behind Lu Ren, saw Blazing Flame once again forcefully pry open the little black box.
Her eyes instantly grew sharp, memories of the past flashing through her mind.
An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth.
Let Blazing Flame use the Weapon in her hand to avenge those Magical Girls who once trusted Pandora’s plan and were willing to risk their lives for it.
It’s time to settle old scores, damn Night Demon Lackeys.
