“Eh, Zhixian, what are you up to?”
Su Ling had just finished washing up and stepped out of the bathroom when she saw Ruan Zhixian busy in the kitchen.
Bathed in the morning light, Zhixian stood by the stove wearing a delicate pink bunny apron.
Her golden hair was casually tied up at the back, with a few strands falling softly around her jade-like neck, swaying gently as she moved.
“Oh, I noticed there was no breakfast this morning and found some ingredients in the fridge, so I decided to make something myself.” Zhixian replied as she flipped the eggs in the frying pan.
“Actually………….”
“Ah, I’ve barely ever cooked in my life. Su Ling, you’re the first person besides me to taste it, so if it doesn’t taste good, you have to be honest. It’s Zhixian’s first homemade meal!”
“No way! As long as it’s made by you, I’m happy to eat it!”
Su Ling immediately withdrew what she was about to say and looked on with eager anticipation.
It didn’t take long before the golden-haired girl, still in her apron, walked to the dining table humming a little tune. One hand held a white porcelain plate, the other a large ceramic pot.
“Ta-da! Ruan Zhixian’s special edition Breakfast Vital Signs Maintenance Meal Sandwich. Su Ling, try it!”
Su Ling glanced at the table. Though she didn’t fully understand Zhixian’s words, the sandwich looked quite decent from its appearance.
Su Ling picked up a piece, quite different from the breakfast she had imagined.
“Mm, delicious! This is really your first time cooking?”
Surprised, Su Ling found the sandwich surprisingly tasty despite its simple ingredients and humble name: buttery toast fried to a crispy golden brown on the outside and soft inside; bacon slightly crisped to perfection; a perfectly soft-boiled egg nestled in the center; and cheese melted just right, filling every corner of the sandwich.
This simple sandwich perfectly showcased the girl’s surprisingly good cooking skills.
“Hmph, of course. This is the first time I’ve ever cooked in this life.”
Of course, this was only this life. In her previous life, Ruan Zhixian was not a novice in the kitchen. As a competent homebody, she had long learned to cook for herself.
Unfortunately, that homebody never got to step into society before becoming the young lady of a wealthy family.
This life, as the young lady of the Ruan Family, Zhixian naturally didn’t need to cook for herself, which was why she said this was her first time.
Still, she hadn’t expected that after so many years away from the kitchen, her skills hadn’t faded much.
Even though it was just an ordinary sandwich, judging by Su Ling’s reaction, it must have tasted pretty good. Looks like she really did have a knack for cooking.
“By the way, there’s some hot coffee here too. I found it in the kitchen. It’s instant, but you should drink some—don’t choke.”
Saying this, the golden-haired girl shook the ceramic pot in her hand, then stood up.
“Alright, Su Ling, you eat first. I’m going to wash up now. No need to save any for me—I can always make more.”
“Oh, and if you like it, I can make it for you anytime.”
Thinking to herself, this could be her way of thanking Su Ling for protecting her recently.
It means I can eat it again!
Hearing this, Su Ling, who had been hesitating whether to save some of Zhixian’s first breakfast, stopped hesitating and took a big bite of the sandwich.
Mm! So good!
“Ah, Su Ling, are you leaving already?”
Zhixian had just come out of the bathroom when she saw Su Ling clearing the dishes on the table, putting on her coat and grabbing her briefcase, clearly ready to go out.
“Ah, Zhixian.”
The black-haired girl in formal wear turned around, holding her briefcase, bending slightly as she slipped her slender feet, clad in slightly sheer black stockings, into her high heels, speaking with a slight apologetic tone:
“Sorry, I was planning to tell you before I left. I didn’t mean to leave without saying goodbye. Things at the company have been busy lately, but once I have more free time, I’ll make sure to spend more time with you at home.”
“Mm, it’s okay. You just focus on your work for now. I’ll be here waiting for you to come back.”
“Also, good luck with work today. Goodbye, Su Ling.”
A bright smile bloomed again on the golden-haired girl’s face, identical to yesterday’s.
“Mm, I’ll do my best. Goodbye, Zhixian.”
The black-haired girl paused briefly, then returned the smile. Like a newly sprouted seedling breaking through the ice, she faced the sun.
So, why hasn’t the Young Lady called me upstairs to deliver breakfast yet?
***
In the Underground Parking Garage of the apartment, the impeccably dressed Miss Wang was holding a breakfast box she had bought some time ago. Glancing at her watch, she silently wondered.
The Young Lady asked me to bring breakfast every day and only to deliver it after she messaged me. But it’s almost time to start work, so why hasn’t she called me yet?
Miss Secretary was puzzled.
Today is only the second day, right? Why already…
Wait… the second day?
A flash of realization crossed Miss Secretary’s mind.
That means last night was the first night the Young Lady and Miss Ruan spent together. No wonder…
Although the Young Lady usually seems rather airheaded, she’s surprisingly reliable when it counts…
Miss Secretary nodded silently to herself.
So, logically, after the first time, she’d probably want to sleep until noon, right?
Should I keep waiting? Hmm, just in case, knowing how serious the Young Lady is, she might drag herself to work even while tired. Better keep waiting then.
With that thought, the hardworking Miss Secretary resumed her vigil.
