Bastard
Yu Song and Mrs. Zhou’s mediation ended in a quarrel.
Mrs. Zhou ground her teeth and cursed, “You spoiled rich bitch, with your green hair thinking you can just waltz through society? When I was out there making a living, you weren’t even born yet. How dare you curse my son? If anything happens to my Xiao Hao, I’ll rip you apart alive.”
Listening to her filthy words, Yu Song regretted even reminding her.
These people were never any fun.
“If I’d known you were this dumb and wicked, I wouldn’t have wasted my breath on you,” Yu Song said, standing up and leaving the mediation room. “Officer Gu, I want to report her for fraud, kidnapping, and slander.”
Mrs. Zhou stomped her foot in anger.
“Who’s scamming you? You’re just slandering me!”
“You want compensation for my son’s injury and twenty thousand yuan, isn’t that a scam? If you say it’s not fraud, then where’s the money? Hand it over.”
Yu Song held out her hand toward Mrs. Zhou.
Mrs. Zhou was stunned.
Twenty thousand yuan wasn’t a lot to her, but why on earth should she hand it over to this brat for free?
“What delusions are you having? You killed my husband and tried to scam money from me! When have I ever said I’d give you twenty thousand?”
Yu Song pulled out her phone and played a recording.
“Sorry, my phone automatically records calls. Mrs. Zhou, listen to whose voice this is. You change your tune pretty fast.”
Hearing her own voice, Mrs. Zhou’s face darkened immediately. Zhou Xiao Heng also looked at Yu Song in surprise.
“You actually recorded it?”
“It’s not just that phone call. I recorded our conversation in the car too, and even the slander Mrs. Zhou just threw at me. We’re at the Police Station, and the officers haven’t accused me of murder. You insist I killed Zhou Yaohui?”
Yu Song stared coldly at Mrs. Zhou.
“Either you’re mentally unwell, or you’re a thief crying ‘Stop thief!’ There’s no other explanation. Are you trying to get your cousin off the hook for killing me by claiming he has a mental illness? That’s a neat trick, but the police aren’t fools.”
Yu Song then turned and asked Officer Gu, “What do you think, Team Gu?”
Officer Gu was a little puzzled by Yu Song.
He was quietly scrutinizing every unreasonable detail about this girl.
Ji Jiang stepped forward solemnly and said to Yu Song, “Miss Yu, don’t worry. We will definitely uncover the truth and clear your name.”
Hearing that, Mrs. Zhou became even angrier.
“Who else could it be? Of course, I don’t believe Old Zhou would like some green-haired girl, but they ran off to that hotel. What else could have happened? She’s Old Zhou’s third wife; surely it was a fight between them, and she accidentally killed him.”
Yu Song shot a tired glance at her.
“With a brain like yours, no wonder your eldest son was harmed. Your cousin who was driving already drew a gun, and you’re still chasing after the third wife. Mrs. Zhou, do you really think Meng Dawei wanted to kill me?”
Mrs. Zhou’s mind was in a mess at this point.
She had trusted Meng Dawei to be her driver, so naturally, she believed in him.
She couldn’t imagine her cousin would fire a gun, let alone shoot toward her car.
Mrs. Zhou subconsciously kept going back to the questions she couldn’t figure out and saw Yu Song as the cause of all the trouble.
When Yu Song mentioned her eldest son’s death again, Mrs. Zhou’s throat tightened sharply. “What do you mean by that?”
Yu Song shrugged.
“Literally what I said.”
Mrs. Zhou lunged forward, trying to grab her hand.
“Who are you? What do you know? Why don’t you just tell me clearly?”
“Am I not clear enough?” Yu Song said, then glanced at Zhou Xiao Heng standing beside Mrs. Zhou.
Zhou Xiao Heng felt uneasy.
He sized up Yu Song, thinking that even if there were someone who knew the truth, it wouldn’t be this girl.
So he stepped forward to stir things up: “Miss Yu, what’s your relationship to my brother? Anyway, my brother’s gone now. Just say it boldly, it’s okay. Don’t worry, my sister-in-law is a good person. She just wants to find the real culprit and avenge my brother.”
Yu Song said, “I have no relationship with him. I was just passing by.”
Mrs. Zhou became frantic again.
“If you were just passing by, how would you know about my eldest son? Or are you just playing mind games with me here?”
She tried to come over and pull Yu Song.
Ji Jiang quickly stopped her.
“Mrs. Zhou, please calm down. The case is still under investigation. Your quarrels will only interfere with the investigation.”
Seeing Yu Song about to say something else, he gave Officer Gu a look.
Officer Gu nodded knowingly.
He, too, didn’t want a fight to break out and was planning to have Yu Song taken alone to the interrogation room next door.
Yu Song didn’t want to play games.
She was just a Juren student. Earlier, during the statement, she said she went to the Jin Hong Hotel just to see the world but ended up witnessing a murder.
Now she knew the case inside and out.
It was obvious that outsiders would think there was something wrong with her.
So she obediently followed Officer Gu into the interrogation room next door.
“Team Gu, I know what you want to ask. It’s all just my wild guesses. You also see that Mrs. Zhou isn’t a good person. I just wanted to give her a scare.”
“What? You say her eldest son didn’t die by accident, and that her youngest son might not survive, all just guesses?”
Officer Gu’s expression darkened. “This kind of joke is not something to make lightly.”
He paused, then added, “Miss Yu, I feel like you’re not the kind of mother who would risk her child’s life just to act loyal.”
Yu Song smiled.
“Still, Team Gu, you have sharp eyes. I really wouldn’t stoop to that. But Mrs. Zhou kidnapped me and nearly killed me. I just wanted to scare her a little. And what I said wasn’t without basis.”
“Scare? What basis?”
Yu Song said, “Zhou Xiao Heng is Zhou Yaohui’s half-brother by different mothers. His mother must have been the mistress who was later legitimized. Usually, in situations like this, brothers don’t get along well. If their father was very powerful, they might pretend to be brothers to curry favor. But Zhou Yaohui built his family on his father-in-law’s influence. Why would he take care of his father’s illegitimate son? Let him into the company and even give him shares?”
Officer Gu nodded.
“That’s generous to the point of being excessive. But maybe he just values blood ties, or it could be his father’s dying wish.”
Yu Song laughed.
“Right. Maybe he’s just too generous. Team Gu, I once heard a story: A poor man with talent marries into a rich family. To live well, he convinces everyone to invest in his business, and he quickly gets rich. After becoming wealthy, he feels the son-in-law identity is disgraceful, so he pulls in his own family and relatives, showing off openly.”
Officer Gu frowned.
“You mean Zhou Yaohui?”
“No, it’s just a story. Rich men often have mistresses, and this son-in-law was only forced by circumstances, not loving his wife. Later, he had a son elsewhere but couldn’t acknowledge him for reputation’s sake.”
Officer Gu thought about Zhou Yaohui’s image as a family-loving entrepreneur and didn’t quite understand what Yu Song was implying.
“Xiao Yu, is this story yours, or did you hear gossip somewhere? Or are you an insider? What’s your real connection to the Zhou family?”
Yu Song shook her head.
“See? I knew I shouldn’t say. You all love doubting so much. I just feel something’s off about Zhou Xiao Heng. When Meng Dawei shot at us, he looked excited. When you arrived, his first reaction was anger.”
Officer Gu looked surprised.
“Weren’t you driving, holding the steering wheel? You observed all that so carefully?”
“Because it was too abnormal. He was the one who called the police, but the location he gave was ambiguous. There are two abandoned factories in the southern suburbs. We were at 45 Da Ma Road in Gonglu Bay, but the other place is behind the Gonglu Bay scenic area. The two places are at least twenty miles apart.”
Officer Gu grew more suspicious and even more curious about Yu Song because he knew the police had indeed gone to the wrong location and ended up at the scenic area.
If they had trusted Yu Song from the start, the police might have arrived at the scene sooner.
“You know the southern suburbs well for a second-year college student. How do you know about those two abandoned factories? Did you investigate beforehand? But didn’t Mrs. Zhou invite you to the Yingchun Teahouse first, then drag you into the car and take you to the factory?”
Yu Song sighed inwardly.
Both places were perfect for murder and body disposal. As a former serial killer in reserve, she naturally knew this.
But she definitely couldn’t say that out loud.
She said, “Everyone knows the one behind the scenic area. When Zhou Xiao Heng gave the address, I immediately thought of that place. But we definitely weren’t in Gonglu Bay. Anyway, he’s got issues. If you don’t believe me, check the DNA. See if he’s really Zhou Yaohui’s brother or son.”
Officer Gu frowned.
Just because of her guess, should they do DNA testing?
The reason wasn’t solid enough, but Yu Song’s suspicion was indeed reasonable.
“We will do that. Don’t worry.”
Yu Song didn’t want to waste any more time on Zhou Xiao Heng.
Her eyes flicked, and suddenly she had an idea.
“Team Gu, let’s put on a little show. I don’t want any pay, just improvise.”
Officer Gu looked at her excited face, not knowing what mischief she was plotting. “What show? Xiao Yu, what do you take this place for? This is the Criminal Investigation Team. Be serious.”
“I am serious.” Yu Song said solemnly.
“If they’re related, we’ll know with just one test.”
Officer Gu didn’t want to play along, but after Yu Song finished, he couldn’t help but be tempted.
In the interrogation room, Ji Jiang also thought Zhou Xiao Heng seemed suspicious.
Liu was pulling up his information on the police network, about to investigate, when Officer Gu came in.
He walked over, glanced at Zhou Xiao Heng, then lowered his voice.
“Team Leader Ji, Yu Song says she couldn’t have killed Zhou Yaohui because she is Zhou Yaohui’s illegitimate daughter. She even has an Inheritance.”
The voice was low, but the interrogation room was small and quiet.
Zhou Xiao Heng heard it clearly and suddenly shouted, “Impossible! Absolutely impossible!”
