“A human invasion?”
Despite hearing Dafil’s report, Natalie still maintained a nonchalant attitude, not taking the matter to heart at all.
It made Dafil’s haste and worry seem truly redundant.
“Yes! At the same time the Hero invaded the Demon King’s castle, the humans had already assembled their troops with plans to invade our country. According to our estimates, the human army numbers over 100,000.”
Noticing Natalie’s state of mind, Dafil increased the intensity of her tone again, attempting to make Natalie understand how urgent the situation was.
“It seems those humans really believe in the Hero. They probably think the Hero can actually succeed in slaying me. A leaderless Demon Race would definitely be unable to withstand a sudden invasion by an army of over 100,000. Even if they didn’t succeed in slaying me, as long as the Hero managed to wound me severely, the human army could still succeed in their attack.
They should at least be able to take several of our major cities. Unfortunately, the Hero was too weak! The humans probably don’t know yet that I’m completely unharmed, which is why they dare to continue their march.”
“…Be that as it may, I ask that you quickly issue a battle plan, Master Demon King. This is an invasion by over 100,000 troops, after all. If we are even slightly careless, something will definitely go wrong.”
“Sigh…”
‘How annoying… Am I really being disturbed by such a trivial matter…?’
At that thought, Natalie felt inexplicably angry.
In Natalie’s eyes, a mere invasion by over 100,000 humans was a small matter that wasn’t worth rushing over.
Her “good time” with Emily had been interrupted because of this triviality.
Had Natalie known it was just this, she wouldn’t have come to see Dafil.
However, even though Natalie thought that way, she couldn’t say it out loud.
After all, from the perspective of any demon other than Natalie, an invasion of over 100,000 troops was a very dangerous matter.
A single mistake could turn into a crisis that could destroy the nation, so it truly qualified as the most urgent of situations.
Thus, Natalie could only give up on the idea of punishing Dafil.
“Master Demon King, please give your orders!”
Seeing Natalie still acting this way, Dafil’s tone even carried a hint of pressure.
In Dafil’s eyes, Natalie was a perfect Demon King in almost every way.
Her personal power was immense, her strategy was impeccable, and she was even very capable of governing the country.
In the history of the Demon Race, there were truly few Demon Kings superior to Natalie.
The only thing Dafil had an issue with was Natalie’s nonchalant personality! Natalie was the type who would become incredibly obsessed with things that interested her, while maintaining a completely indifferent attitude toward things that didn’t.
Although the country hadn’t run into any major problems so far due to this personality trait, Dafil knew very well that if the Demon King was allowed to continue like this, something would eventually happen.
The reason nothing had gone wrong yet was entirely because Natalie’s personal martial strength was too high.
But in Dafil’s view, not everything could be easily solved with force.
As a Demon King executive, Dafil felt she had a duty to guide Natalie to become the perfect Demon King!
Of course, this sense of responsibility was exactly why Natalie disliked her.
After all, it was hard for Natalie not to dislike someone like Dafil, who lectured her every single day.
“Tsk, then I’ll leave everything to you, Dafil. I’m giving you all the authority you need; you can freely deploy any troops or executives in the country! I believe you can repel the human invasion.”
Seeing Dafil’s incessant nagging, Natalie gave a perfunctory response.
Under normal circumstances, handing over control of the entire country’s military strength to one person would be a suicidal move, but Natalie truly didn’t care.
She knew very well that while Dafil was annoying, her loyalty was the highest among all the executives.
Even if she were given the power to mobilize the entire nation’s army, she would never harbor any improper thoughts.
Most importantly, Natalie possessed the power to keep her throne no matter what happened.
If she lacked even one of those conditions, Natalie would never have handed over military authority to Dafil.
“…Master Demon King, is it really all right for you to issue such an order?!”
Seeing Natalie casually hand over the nation’s military authority, Dafil was truly stunned.
“After all, I have more important work to attend to.”
“More important work?”
This phrase caused Dafil to reveal a confused expression.
She truly couldn’t imagine anything more important than the country being invaded.
“Interrogating the Saintess. I finally managed to capture her, so it won’t do if I don’t squeeze some information about God out of her mouth…”
“…Master Demon King, forgive my bluntness. It wouldn’t be too late to interrogate the Saintess after the human invasion is dealt with. She’s locked in the dungeon and isn’t going anywhere.”
Dafil’s words left Natalie with no way to argue.
She could only reply with ambiguous words: “I… naturally have my own plans! You don’t need to worry about the specifics; you just need to know that this matter is very urgent.”
“…In that case, I will go and interrogate the Saintess while you, Master Demon King, command the troops to resist the invasion.”
“No! The only one who can interrogate the Saintess is me!”
Dafil’s normal piece of advice caused Natalie to become instantly defensive, snapping like a cat guarding its food! To Natalie, Dafil’s words were an attempt to steal her beloved Emily!
Seeing Natalie in this state, Dafil finally caught a glimpse of the truth.
However, to completely confirm her suspicions, Dafil still chose to ask, “…Master Demon King, actually, there is one more thing I want to ask you.”
“What is it?”
“I heard that you originally had the chance to kill or capture the Hero? Yet you chose to capture the Saintess instead? Why was that?”
“Naturally because the Saintess is more important than the Hero! The Saintess is the only one who can communicate with that disgusting God. As long as we hold her, we can understand things about the divine.”
“Forgive me, but as long as you killed the Hero, capturing the Saintess would have been as easy as turning over your palm. There was absolutely no need to let the Hero escape just to capture her.”
“…”
‘Damn it, this idiot Dafil is a total contrarian! No matter what I say, she has to argue, doesn’t she!’
Despite her thoughts, Dafil’s words were undeniably correct, leaving Natalie completely unable to refute them.
How could Natalie possibly tell Dafil that she had forgotten such a thing because she was in too much of a hurry?
After falling for Emily at first sight, Natalie’s mind was filled with nothing but the desire to have her as quickly as possible, so she naturally hadn’t thought that far ahead.
“I have my own thoughts! Dafil, you are dismissed!”
Natalie, unable to win the argument, simply chose to kick her out.
As a Demon King executive, Dafil had no choice but to follow orders and left the royal hall obediently.
However, as Dafil walked through the corridors of the Demon King’s castle, a dangerous idea popped into her head.
Dafil was now completely certain that Natalie was distracted by the interrogation of the Saintess.
Until Natalie lost interest in her, she wouldn’t take her work seriously.
Then, the thing Dafil needed to do was simple.
She would go and interrogate the Saintess herself, and after getting information about God, she would spoil it all for Natalie! Once she was spoiled, Natalie would naturally lose interest in the Saintess.
Then, Natalie could seriously handle the human invasion!
With this thought in mind, Dafil headed straight for the dungeon where Emily was being held.
Of course, Dafil was entirely unaware that Natalie liked the Saintess, rather than the act of interrogating her.
Under normal circumstances, it would be truly difficult for Dafil to imagine that Natalie, a fellow girl, would fall in love with the Saintess at first sight.
