“Miss Su Yao? What are you doing here? And who are these two with you? Why is there even a demon?”
Su Yao glanced at Lilith standing beside her. By rights, Lilith should have already activated her mental magic.
This room required one person to stay outside and trigger the mechanism before another could enter.
As for why it was Eveleel who came inside, the reason was simple: the person triggering the mechanism needed to meet a certain level requirement.
After using the Eye of Truth earlier, Su Yao confirmed that the Third Princess’s level was about the same as Kroel’s when they first met—both below twenty.
So the only option was to have Hilvi, who was above level twenty, remain outside.
“Sorry, Master, I don’t know what happened either.”
No matter how Su Yao thought about it, Lilith’s mental magic shouldn’t be something that a princess in her teens could be immune to. What was going on?
“Is it the Succubus tribe’s mental magic? My apologies. As a country that deals with vampires regularly, our nation’s high-ranking officials are equipped to counter mental magic.”
That made sense. She should have figured out earlier that this princess wouldn’t lack protective Magic Tools.
“Eveleel, I have no intention of harming you. Could you please cooperate a little?”
“Sorry, my heart belongs only to Hilvi, but you can be straightforward about your intentions. Maybe I won’t refuse.”
The princess seemed to have calmed down, or perhaps her initial shock was just an act.
“I want to learn some intelligence about the Vichy Kingdom from you.”
“That’s fine.”
Her actions still carried an indescribable sense of discord, and as a princess of Vichy Kingdom, she didn’t hesitate to agree to betray her own country’s secrets.
No matter how one looked at it, that was suspicious.
“Could you please sign a Demon Contract with me? Of course, I’ll write in the contract that we won’t harm you, and you must agree to a few conditions.”
“A Demon Contract? Miss Su Yao, you really go through a lot of trouble. But… no problem, I agree.”
The whole event was progressing so smoothly it was almost outrageous. Su Yao couldn’t help but wonder if she was the one falling into a trap, not Eveleel.
“You don’t seem to believe me? That’s disheartening. As you know, I’m the Third Princess of the Vichy Kingdom, but the one I love is Hilvi. Do you understand what that means?”
What does it mean? That she’s an invader and might be disliked by Hilvi? That the person she loves is a girl?
“It means she will be used as a political tool to marry into other nations’ elites or be married off to a noble in her own country. In any case, she can never be with Hilvi, who is also a woman.”
Kroel explained from the side.
I see, nobles are really troublesome.
“This young lady is quite clever. May I ask your name again?”
Earlier at the Maze Tavern, Kroel hadn’t told Eveleel her name, but the princess didn’t mind.
Kroel looked at Su Yao, who nodded.
Since Eveleel was willing to sign the contract, it showed her willingness to cooperate, and her reasons made sense in line with her usual behavior.
It was proper for Kroel to state her name here as a gesture of goodwill.
Besides, after signing the contract, Su Yao wouldn’t give her the chance to harm the Dungeon or them.
“I am Chlorel Greenville, princess of the Green Empire.”
Eveleel was momentarily stunned upon hearing the name. It seemed she didn’t expect to meet the enemy nation’s princess here.
“Nice to meet you, Miss Chlorel.”
“Spare me the pleasantries. Our nations are at war, and I want to ask you some questions. I hope you answer truthfully.”
After speaking, Su Yao took out the contract from the warehouse—an ominous black Scroll emanating a foreboding aura, with every word fixed and unchangeable.
“Just asking questions unilaterally is boring. I promise I won’t share anything with others. How about we play a game?”
“A game?”
……
Eveleel took a chessboard from her Magic Tool. It resembled international chess, though Su Yao didn’t really understand the rules.
More than that, she was interested in the Space Magic Tool that could store items.
“Miss Su Yao, you seem quite fond of this ring?”
The blonde little girl nodded without hesitation.
“Too bad this ring pairs with Hilvi’s. I can’t give it to you.”
Tsk, just a ring. Her shop…
Sorry, she spoke hastily. This thing was really expensive, costing 500,000 DP.
“Alright then, let’s begin, Miss Chlorel. You can go first.”
Although Su Yao didn’t know this world’s chess, Kroel certainly did.
The contents of the Demon Contract were very favorable to them.
First, Eveleel would not disclose any information learned today by any means, nor arrange anything detrimental against the Dungeon or people connected to it.
Second, they would play ten games of chess.
The winner could ask the loser one question, and if the game was a draw, both asked each other one question. No one present could lie or withhold information.
Third, Su Yao and Kroel promised not to subject Hilvi or Eveleel to any subjective harm or negative influence.
Fourth, Eveleel gained the right to live normally in the Green Empire, and if the Vichy royal family lost the war, she would not be held accountable.
After all three signed, the black Scroll spontaneously burned up.
“By the way, Miss Chlorel, please choose your questions carefully. Some things aren’t known to me as a mere ‘flower vase’.”
The ten games of chess took half a day.
Kroel won four, lost four, and drew two.
In total, she could ask six questions and had to answer six.
She was fairly satisfied with the outcome.
After exchanging questions and answers, Su Yao and Kroel let Eveleel leave.
“Miss Su Yao, the Vichy royal family’s royal architect will arrive in Moravia soon. Our previous promise still stands. In a sense, we are allies now.”
Su Yao remained noncommittal, but Kroel’s attitude was definitely warmer than when they first met.
From Eveleel’s words, Kroel’s parents were still alive but under house arrest in Vichy’s capital to pressure the nobles still resisting.
The war’s command had nothing to do with Eveleel; she knew nothing about the military deployments.
The Vichy high-ups were indeed infiltrated by vampires; whether the war’s outbreak was related to vampires, she did not know.
She loved Hilvi and cared about nothing else.
If new information arose, she was willing to inform Kroel.
As for her questions, they were strange—trivial matters, even including Su Yao’s opinion of Hilvi. Maybe she was afraid of being suspected?
Sometimes, knowing too much was more dangerous. She was a smart woman.
Thanks to her, Kroel finally admitted with a blush that she was her lover.
……
“Princess Eveleel, you’re finally out! What happened inside?”
Hilvi asked anxiously, her tone full of worry and eagerness—a sudden happiness indeed.
“Nothing much. It seems like the same kind of trap as the previous floor. We were trapped for a while before we could get out.”
“That’s good.”
Seeing Eveleel open her arms then quickly pull them back—was she going to hug her? But she withdrew her hands after all.
This trip had been fruitful; her goals were basically achieved, and it seemed Hilvi wouldn’t take long to open her heart to her.
“You go ahead and trade with Miss Su Yao first. I’ll enjoy the scenery here a bit. Being trapped for half a day is really not worth it.”
“Don’t worry. I’ll wait for you at the Maze Tavern entrance.”
……
“Come out, Paar.”
The shadow beneath the girl’s feet stirred and writhed. Soon, the head of a ram emerged from the shadow.
“Here’s the Record Crystal. Take it and report back…”
The Demon Contract indeed forbade Eveleel from disclosing information to “humans.”
But it did not include “demons.”
