Millie and Elena walked through the forest.
Moonlight filtered through the branches and leaves, casting fragmented spots of light onto the grass. The twisted branches looked like monstrous claws, and as the evening breeze swept past, the leaves let out a low, rustling sound.
Deep within the forest, an eerie light flickered faintly. It seemed to be gathering a powerful energy, as if it were about to awaken a slumbering Demon God.
With every step closer, the tension grew. Millie swallowed hard. Even though her strength was at its peak, she did not dare to face a Demon God head-on.
Suddenly, a ghostly light appeared ahead.
A massive magic circle radiated a blue glow. Beside the circle, several witches stood with their lips curled into smirks. They held their arms high, their expressions filled with fanatical devotion.
“The Demon God is about to awaken!”
“Come, continue your entanglement, and provide more nourishment for Lady Sithia!”
Millie poked her head out from the bushes, silently watching the scene. She couldn’t tell exactly what they were up to, but they certainly didn’t look like good people.
Especially since they all had the faces of villains.
“What should we do? Should we head over?”
Millie couldn’t help but look at the person beside her. Elena was right there with her.
However, Elena seemed to have something on her mind, as if she were plotting some secret scheme. Millie didn’t want to deal with her anymore, so she stood up, preparing to charge in.
“Wait,” Elena stopped Millie. “Check for traps first.”
“Uh, traps…”
Millie fidgeted with her fingers, guiltily looking away.
Elena furrowed her brows, staring at Millie in disbelief.
“No way. The famous Saintess actually doesn’t know how to use detection magic?”
“It’s not that I don’t know how, it’s just that I can’t find traps…”
At the party, Millie had used detection magic to confirm the flow of mana. She could even construct the surrounding terrain in her mind.
However, investigating traps was a different story.
Traps were different from terrain; they were inherently hidden in the shadows. Millie could only detect things on the surface. She couldn’t find anything buried in the ground or hidden in corners.
“If you can’t find traps, how can you even call it detection magic?”
“What choice do I have?” Millie said huffily. “I’m only good at offensive magic. Healing and detection magic aren’t my strengths.”
After all, her strength spoke for itself. No matter what happened, she just needed to charge straight through. Traps? They didn’t exist. As long as she used a map-wiping attack, any traps would be blown to smithereens.
“How useless. Let me do it…”
Elena closed her eyes and sensed the mana fluctuations. Every blade of grass and every tree entered her vision. The mana felt like ripples on the surface of a pond, slowly expanding outward.
After some time, Elena opened her eyes.
“There are no abnormal fluctuations nearby, so there shouldn’t be any traps. However, it seems like a defensive barrier has been set up around the magic circle.”
Elena pressed her temples, feeling a bit dizzy. Although she was quite strong, she was far behind Millie. Using detection magic over such a large area had caused her mana supply to run low.
“Wow, how useless,” Millie gloated. “Dizzy after just one detection spell.”
“You have the nerve to say that to me?” The veins on Elena’s forehead popped. “You don’t even know how to use detection magic, do you?”
“Weren’t you the one who wanted to use it? Now you’re blaming me! You really are useless. If Sister Philusa were here, she would have performed it perfectly!”
‘Good grief, you think too highly of me.’
‘With an area this large, who could possibly handle the drain besides a monster like you?’
Forget it. Hearing Millie praise her made Elena feel a sense of secret delight, though she quickly calmed herself down. After all, she couldn’t show any weakness.
“Do you have any large-scale offensive magic? Something to destroy these witches and the summoning circle all at once?”
“I do, but…”
Millie looked at Elena’s face. Under the moonlight, her features appeared exceptionally handsome.
“Aren’t they your companions?”
They were all witches, yet they were resorting to infighting. Elena was so ruthless toward her own kind; she truly was a villain.
“I told you, our ideologies are different. Besides, every single one of them has several lives on their hands. It wouldn’t be a pity to kill them.”
“How do you know whether they’ve killed anyone?”
“Don’t underestimate our information network. Do you see that summoning circle over there?”
Elena pointed toward the magic circle not far away, a look of disgust crossing her features.
“To draw that magic circle, at least one village’s worth of people had to be slaughtered. After it’s drawn, it needs to be supplemented with the aura of lust, or else the Demon God cannot be summoned at all.”
“What? An entire village?…”
Millie’s heart skipped a beat. She stared blankly at the magic circle and the black-robed witches standing beside it.
Once she calmed down, she could sense a faint scent of blood lingering in the air. Perhaps Elena was right; this thing really did require the massacre of a whole village.
Millie’s fists tightened as a fire surged in her heart.
“These damn witches…”
“Calm down. Not all witches are bad. Look at me, I’m a genuine good person.”
“You, a good person? Bah!”
If she wasn’t a villain, then there were no villains left in the world. Millie remembered how Elena had locked her in a dungeon and done whatever she pleased every day.
As a result, she had even ended up pregnant!
Fine, she wouldn’t tell her. Even if the child she was carrying was Elena’s, she wouldn’t say a word. She would let her stay in the dark forever!
“Since you don’t have any objections, I’ll use a grand spell to show you what I’m capable of.”
She took a deep breath and suddenly snapped her eyes open.
A golden halo radiated from her body as the wind howled, whipping her hair and clothes into a frenzy.
A golden magic circle bloomed in the void.
At that moment, the witches around the summoning circle all looked over at once.
“Oh no, an enemy attack!”
“Protect Lady Sithia’s magic circle!”
Millie let out a cold snort. She had known that as soon as she cast the spell, the witches would detect the mana fluctuations. That was unavoidable.
However, it was too late!
Even if they noticed, they wouldn’t be able to withstand it. Millie was just that powerful; her magic was enough to crush everything.
“Repent for your actions! HOLY RADIANCE!”
Golden light surged like a raging tide, illuminating the entire forest. With a momentum that could destroy heaven and earth, it surged toward the magic circle and the many witches.
The witches were terrified. They froze in place, even forgetting to cast defensive spells.
However, a bizarre red light rose from the summoning circle, and the aura of lust gathered into a demonic hand.
The palm spread open, blocking the golden pillar of light.
The two forces collided, creating a momentum that felt like mountains toppling and seas churning. The wind tore through the forest, fluttering the witches’ robes.
The witches were overjoyed, and they all fell to their knees.
“Lady Sithia!”
“Lady Sithia, you’ve finally awakened!”
