‘Forget it, I’ll think about it tonight. I have to hurry and fish for crates today. I have to land on that damn Survival Island again the day after tomorrow.’
The blessing would last for a full day, so An Ling would have plenty of time to study it once night fell. She took out her fishing rod, walked out of the wooden house, and began her fishing for the day.
She spent the entire morning fishing. After 6 hours, she had only caught three wooden crates. Either her luck was too poor to catch anything, or the crates simply weren’t drifting toward the island at all. An Ling was powerless to change it. The blessing provided no substantial help for fishing crates, so her harvest for the morning was considered mediocre.
Back inside the wooden house, An Ling simply cooked the leopard coral grouper, paired it with rice, and finished her lunch. Her time during the day was relatively tight, so she generally avoided complex cooking since it wasted too much time. However, with the island landing approaching, she decided to save her sealed, packaged food.
After resting for half an hour, she estimated that more crates would appear. An Ling stepped out of the wooden house and began her afternoon fishing session.
Compared to the morning, the afternoon harvest was much better. She caught four crates, two of which were locked. She also collected the fishing nets from the edge of the island, ending the day of monotonous fishing.
Morning harvest: Three wooden crates, Wood * 23, Plastic * 16, and Rope * 2.
Afternoon harvest: Four wooden crates (including two locked), Thatch * 5, Gauze * 12, and Wood * 30.
Fishing net harvest: Wood * 10, Thatch * 5, Ribbon Fish * 2, and Grouper * 1.
An Ling stored all these resources in her storage box and then began the day’s crate-opening session. From the five wooden crates, she obtained: Mineral Water * 3, Mixed Congee * 2, Steamed Buns * 2, and Key * 3…
There were no cards. The rest were just basic materials and food. The only real gain was the three new keys she had acquired.
‘These things aren’t enough to let my development progress at all,’ An Ling sighed. ‘Is a Resource Island really the only way forward?’
If she wanted to land on a Resource Island again, she would have to wait until at least after she returned from her next trip to Survival Island.
After breaking down all the wooden crates, An Ling looked at the three keys in her hand. Feeling frustrated, she decided to use them immediately. She still had five keys left, and since she didn’t know when her next stroke of luck would come, she couldn’t keep relying on this blessing forever.
The first crate was very ordinary—a locked food crate. From it, An Ling obtained various snacks.
**[Potato Chips * 2, Spicy Strips * 2, Strawberry Cake * 1, Dried Mango * 2, Mixed Nuts * 2]**
Rather than a food crate, it was more appropriate to call it a snack crate. Although this made An Ling happy, she still wanted to speed up her development; snacks were ultimately trivial.
The second crate was heavy. When she shook it, it made a harsh, grating sound. Upon opening it, she found it was filled with square sheets of glass. These transparent sheets were stacked neatly in the crate, totaling twenty pieces. This was the first time An Ling had opened a crate and found materials other than basic resources.
She quickly checked the construction module and the workbench on the light screen. Sure enough, she found a new item unlocked.
**[Glass Window: Perfect lighting, a must-have for house building! Required Materials: Glass * 4, Wood * 4, Iron Nails * 16. Points * 3.]**
An Ling looked at her current wooden windows and then at the glass window shown in the picture.
Build!
The drawbacks of wooden windows were too obvious. They provided no light, so the windows had to be kept open during the day. This rectangular wooden house had three windows in total: one on each side of the wooden door and one on the back wall.
After replacing all the wooden windows in the house, the interior instantly brightened significantly. Although these simple glass windows were also sliding ones, they could now be closed when necessary without losing light.
**[Glass Window constructed. Reward: Bedding Set * 2.]**
There was actually a system reward. This was great! Furthermore, the “bedding set” here wasn’t just sheets and covers—it included a quilt and a pillow! There were two sets, and although An Ling already had a pillow, she didn’t mind having two more.
‘I finally don’t have to sleep under cowhide tonight.’ Her mood improved significantly. Even if there was no technological breakthrough, her quality of life had improved. That at least meant her hard work today wasn’t in vain.
An Ling turned her gaze to the last crate. She shook it. it was very light, and she couldn’t even hear the sound of an object hitting the sides.
‘There’s a card!’ She quickly opened the last crate. What met her eyes was a solitary purple card.
Picking it up, she saw a strange blast furnace depicted on the front. ‘Wait, could this be…’
**[Smelter Construction Card: No explanation needed! Required Materials: Scrap Iron * 100, Enhancement Card * 1. Points * 5.]**
“I’ll be — ” An Ling almost thought she had misread it. A construction card that required an Enhancement Card?
Her only evaluation of this was a single word: incredible. Moreover, 100 pieces of scrap iron weren’t something an average person could obtain.
‘Is it because this is a trans-generational building that the requirements are so exaggerated?’ At this point, she had to build it regardless. An Ling was just glad she had saved an Enhancement Card in advance; otherwise, she would have been stuck.
As soon as she finished building the smelter and placed it outside the wooden house, the system’s voice rang out again.
**[Congratulations to the survivor for building a Smelter for the first time. Reward: Skill Card * 1.]**
Outrageous. Even the system had changed its usual pattern for this reward and chose to issue a card. Normally, its rewards were things like sanitary pads, school uniforms, or toilet paper. This time, it was unexpectedly generous.
After taking the skill card, she saw a sword pattern on the front. The moment it was issued to her, it transformed into a Swordplay Skill Card. An Ling used it immediately. Her attribute points increased by one across the board, and her Level 1 Basic Swordplay upgraded to Level 2.
‘I feel like my whole body is overflowing with power. This feeling of getting something for free is great.’
She turned her attention back to the smelter outside the wooden house. The structure didn’t take up much space—it was a bit over 1 square meter, less than 2 square meters in total. It was positioned right against the edge of the wooden house, next to the sea.
The entire structure was a grayish-white color and stood over 2 meters high. The bottom half was square, while the top half was circular, resembling a small tower made of stacked stones. The smelter had three openings—front, back, and side—used for adding fuel, adding ore, and retrieving the finished ingots.
An Ling tested it and found that the burning time was identical to the stove. Thatch had the shortest burning time, while coal lasted the longest.
