“Thank you for your hard work, Feini. You’re truly a veteran,” said Shijietang.
“Without you, our project would have been stuck at the first step. We wouldn’t even have made it past the Academy gate.”
“We still need to come up with a squad name,” Feini said.
“Do you have any good suggestions? We really don’t know how human Adventurer Squads are usually named,” Shijietang asked.
“You’ve come to the right person! Naming a team is an advanced skill.” Feini feigned expertise as she analyzed,
“Our team name should sound powerful, but not too flashy. It should be humble, short, catchy, and memorable, with a dash of literary flair and plenty of mystery.”
The Magical Beast Girls were left utterly confused, their faces blank with bewilderment. They didn’t understand a word she was saying.
“Feini, what sort of name do you think would be suitable?” Shijietang smiled. “Why don’t you name us?”
“Huh? I think such an important task should be handled by you,” Feini replied.
“We’re all teammates here; it doesn’t matter who picks the name,” Shijietang said with a light laugh.
But in reality, what she was thinking was that if the team’s name ever gave away their identities, she could just blame Feini and say it was her idea.
“Our squad name will be… [Lost Beast]. What do you think?” Feini randomly came up with a name.
The girls looked at each other. Even though they didn’t know what it meant, it sounded powerful yet restrained.
Now they kind of understood what Feini had just been talking about.
“Any objections?” Shijietang asked.
The Magical Beast Girls weren’t very cultured, so they had no opinions on the matter.
They hadn’t even attended the God and Demon Academy for a full semester, and they certainly weren’t the types to pay much attention during cultural classes.
Now, this free project counted as their midterm exam.
Although Feini always scored zero in combat classes, she had perfect marks in the liberal arts.
“‘Lost Beast,’ not bad.”
Even Shijietang found herself repeating the name, surprisingly satisfied with it.
Because she felt the team name described herself perfectly.
She wanted to bring wisdom and revolution to the demon race—how could such a path be easy?
Even the Nameless Witch, an immortal existence, had only managed to establish a single God and Demon Academy. Yet, after enrolling, she realized that the Academy couldn’t truly bring wisdom and unity to the demon race, only a set of rules.
But even this single step was a big leap for the demons. Still, it was far from enough.
What could a small, mutated ancient dragon like herself possibly do? No wonder she felt so lost.
“Lost Beast…”
Xueyuedai Emma murmured softly.
She also felt like the team name described her to a tee!
Ever since that incident in the mental space, she’d been lost, not knowing what to do.
Isn’t this talking about me? I’m so lost—how should I face my family? Where is my future? How do I get revenge on Feini?
But the spiritual magic she was most proud of was countered by Feini, and she couldn’t even beat her. Life felt unbearable.
“‘Lost Beast,’ huh? That really is spot on.”
Qingshamu·Ailuma echoed.
She too felt the name seemed to be describing her!
She was a southern hero, an undercover hero—she had thought nothing of it at first, but now there was a big problem: she suddenly had a child, and a child’s mother to deal with.
How was she supposed to face the King? Her teammates? All of humanity?
Having done something so outrageous, there was no way the humans would accept her—unless she personally eliminated the child and the child’s mother to prove her loyalty to the kingdom.
The Northern Demon King hadn’t been found, the God-Demon Meat Chunk was still missing, and she was caught between human and demon, unable to take a single step forward. She was utterly lost.
“‘Lost Beast’—isn’t that talking about me?”
Bai Yuge · Rose spoke more bluntly, with no sense of tact, and ended up drawing glares from her teammates for shamelessly praising herself.
She was indeed quite lost—at least, compared to her little sister, the elder sister felt much more lost.
“When can we set off?”
“My fists are itching for action.”
Only the Golden Fang Beast Sisters didn’t care at all, their expressions firm. They’d always known exactly what they wanted.
What were their goals?
To follow the strong, eat, drink, and have fun! This free project was just a game to them.
“Before we leave, we need to set some ground rules. Our goal is to make contact with Adventurers. We can’t kill them. If we kill someone, we’ll be wanted, our faces will be recorded, and we’ll never be able to infiltrate human society again,” Qingshamu said seriously.
“No killing? That’ll be tough,” Lianjian said, clearly unimpressed.
“If you dare mess around, I’ll attack you from behind. My sword won’t show mercy,” Qingshamu said coldly.
“So scary~” Lianjian was clearly a little afraid but still couldn’t help mouthing off—truly a brat.
“We haven’t even left and you’re already arguing? No infighting, please.” Feini tugged at Qingshamu’s arm.
“…” Only then did Qingshamu’s killing intent subside.
“Calm down, or you’ll blow our cover,” Feini whispered. “I know you’re anxious, but don’t rush.”
“I’m fine,” Qingshamu took a deep breath.
She even made a point to put some distance between herself and Feini, finally remembering that she was supposed to be undercover.
She couldn’t let herself get manipulated by the little widow again. She would not get lost in the illusion of a happy family any longer.
At last, the seven members all shouldered large travel backpacks, ready to set off.
“Everyone, please follow me.”
At that moment, a smiling-faced witch appeared.
She was the person in charge of this free project, a witch with a high rank.
Witch Clones usually wore masks, each mask displaying a different expression to distinguish their identities.
Of course, there was also that one strange witch who didn’t wear a mask.
The Smiling Witch led everyone out of the Costume Collection Hall and deeper into the Artifact Museum, into a room even farther inside.
The room was empty, save for a massive ancient magic circle carved into the floor.
It was clear that the Nameless Witch was skilled at teleportation magic.
During their last extracurricular hunt, she had given the Magical Beast apprentices Teleportation Bottles as life-saving items.
“Here, this is a [Multi-Person Evacuation—Large Teleportation Bottle]. Smash it to summon a portal linked to this place, and it will teleport all of you back here.”
The Smiling Witch handed Shijietang an ultra-small bottle, wrapped in a shockproof hemp rope—one look and you could tell it was extremely important.
But such an important life-saving retreat tool—there was only one, and it was only handed to their leader, Shijietang.
This wasn’t good news for Qingshamu and the other two.
If Shijietang ever intended to betray them and leave them behind, there would be no way to guard against it.
But no one could say so aloud; to question it would make them look petty.
All they could do was keep their guard up and be wary in secret.
