Holding Noli, Lucas surfaced, noticing that the giant beast had completely thawed by now.
But it hung its head low, lifelessly floating on the sea.
Perhaps the saw spear wound embedded deep in its skull had damaged its brain.
This creature looked as if it wouldn’t last much longer.
Even its massive claws drifted weakly on the water’s surface.
Was it really dead?
As Lucas pondered, the giant’s head and hands began to rot at an incredible speed, dissolving into pools of blood that mixed back into the sea.
The thoroughly decayed giant left behind no bones—or rather, it seemed it never had any bones at all.
Lucas’s saw spear slipped into the ocean, and he didn’t bother retrieving it.
A saw spear was just a tool; he could always ask Ivina for another one later.
What caught Lucas’s attention, however, was something else.
As the giant disappeared, most of its flesh turned to blood, except for a pair of enormous eyes.
The eyes dropped onto the sea surface, floating with the waves.
For some reason, Lucas felt an inexplicable urge to pick them up.
But that made no sense—the eyes were so huge, how could he possibly lift them?
Shaking his head, Lucas dismissed the ridiculous thought.
Then something strange happened again—the originally enormous eyeballs suddenly began shrinking, down to about the size of a human’s.
Lucas sighed and eventually stepped forward to pick up the eyes.
Originally yellow, the eyes had turned white after shrinking, with no pupils.
Lucas looked at the eyeballs with a puzzled expression.
What on earth were these for?
Despite the myriad questions swirling in his mind, Lucas tucked the eyes into his chest, cleared some debris from Noli’s mouth and nose, and carried her toward the shore.
The scene on land was grim.
Scattered everywhere were the corpses of fishmen, bloodied and strewn across the ground.
Lina and Airoma leaned against a rock, resting.
“Good job…”
Lina panted as she praised Lucas, “We almost didn’t hold on…”
After all, Lina was different from him—no matter how skilled she was, she was still human.
“When those guys saw that giant monster die, they all ran off.”
Airoma collapsed to the ground, unable to get up for a long time.
“Little bro, promise me next time you won’t bring me somewhere so dangerous… We almost didn’t make it…”
Lucas gave a helpless smile, setting Noli down and leaning against the rock himself.
After such a long fight, his body didn’t feel tired, but his spirit was nearly spent.
After a brief rest, Lucas began working again.
It might seem rude to Noli, but given the circumstances, he had no choice.
He reached out to remove Noli’s foot socks, but halfway through, Lina suddenly struck Lucas’s forehead with a hand chop.
“What are you doing? Can’t you see I’m still here? Trying to take advantage of someone unconscious?”
Lina scolded.
Lucas felt wronged; he was only trying to check Noli’s condition.
Since Lina had an issue with it, he handed the task over to her.
Lina didn’t refuse. Following Lucas’s instructions, she removed Noli’s foot socks and then pried open her eyelids to examine her.
“Ate some water, but that’s not a big problem.”
Lina pointed to the markings on Noli’s legs.
“What’s this?”
Lucas shrugged, admitting he didn’t know.
To be honest, Noli and the entire Elf race still held many secrets unknown to him.
Some things even Noli herself wasn’t clear about, let alone Lucas.
As for the markings on Noli’s legs, the only thing Lucas understood was that after they appeared, her strength had increased dramatically.
Originally only able to control ice, Noli was now able to summon blizzards and freeze the sea.
What kind of power was required to accomplish that?
This power was so great it began to backfire on Noli herself, overburdening her body.
Lucas knelt to check on Noli, who was breathing steadily.
She didn’t seem seriously injured—her fainting was probably due to overexerting her abilities.
He let Noli lie down to rest and then took out the two eyeballs from his chest to examine them closely.
To be honest, he still didn’t understand what these eyes were.
They had started huge, then mysteriously shrunk to their current size.
Moreover, just looking at them caused a stabbing pain deep inside his head.
Strange murmurs constantly buzzed in his ears, making him restless.
In the end, he put the eyeballs away.
Lucas had a strong feeling these were no ordinary objects and must never fall into enemy hands.
Perhaps when he met the Creator God again in the future, he could ask what these were.
For now, they just had to wait for Noli to wake up before setting off.
Though they hadn’t uncovered any clues about the Eight Sins this time, it wasn’t a total loss.
At the very least, they had eliminated a major threat from Dybis Port.
There was also another matter that needed to be settled immediately.
“Airoma.”
Lucas walked over to her side.
“What are your plans from now on?”
Airoma looked a bit confused by the question.
“What plans? Go back to Dybis Port and do whatever needs doing. The only problem will be eating well.”
She rubbed her stomach.
“Want to come with us?”
Lucas extended an olive branch.
“I still have lots of things to do. Join us, and you’ll never have to worry about food or drink again.”
“Ah… this…”
Airoma scratched her head.
“Little bro, I’m scared. Being with you feels like I never get a moment’s peace. I… I don’t think I’m used to this kind of life.”
“I won’t let you do anything dangerous.”
Lina came over.
“Lucas asked for you by name, and now I’m asking too.”
Lina’s attitude shocked Airoma so much her jaw almost dropped.
“But… I’m a thief…”
“You don’t have to worry about that. You were forced into it anyway.”
Lina grabbed Airoma’s hand.
“Airoma, I think you’re skilled. Join us and just work alongside us. We’ll make sure you’re safe.”
While saying this, Lina gave Lucas a look, silently asking him to agree.
“I won’t let you fight on the front lines. I think with your skills, intelligence work would suit you well.”
“Uh… well…”
Airoma hesitated, but Lucas followed Lina’s lead and took her hand as well.
“Think about it, okay? I’ll protect your safety.”
Held by both on either side, Airoma found herself caught between two people, not sure what to say.
There might be dangers, but…
“Since you put it that way, and for all the meals you’ve covered…”
After some thought, Airoma gave her answer, “Little bro, I’ll go with you, but you have to protect me well!”
