“Ugh! I didn’t expect you to be this strong…”
Gavasa knelt halfway on the ground, unwilling to accept the sight of Colin standing there completely unharmed.
Wiping the black blood off the Sanctuary Sword in his hand, Colin looked at Gavasa, whose left arm had been severed by his strike.
“That line should come from me. You actually surprised me a bit. Although I did hold back, I didn’t expect that after one slash from me, you’d only lose a left arm. You seem to be around level 60, huh? You do have some decent survival skills.”
“But…”
Colin glanced behind him at the Newcomer Squad, who were fighting off the small demons pouring out, buying him some time.
He raised the Sanctuary Sword again.
“This is where it ends for you. You might as well surrender peacefully.”
Hearing this, Gavasa was a little surprised.
It hadn’t expected this seemingly upright Holy Knight to not finish it with a single blow.
But no matter what Colin was thinking, this suited Gavasa just fine.
Seeing Gavasa fall silent, Colin frowned slightly and asked the question weighing on his mind.
“You came here looking for Alek, didn’t you? What do you want with him?”
Gavasa’s heart skipped a beat at Colin’s words. How did he know I was here for Alek?
Has Alek already…
Tch, what a waste of a trip.
That was right, Gavasa was indeed here to find Alek, but not for the reasons Colin suspected.
It didn’t know Alek personally, nor did it understand him at all.
It had only heard that a Demon Clan Remnant named Alek was hiding here, so it came to latch onto him.
After all, because of the Human-Demon War and the Demon King’s Fall, the Demon Race was nearly wiped out.
Their numbers and remaining powerful individuals were scarce.
The survivors had no choice but to hide and avoid detection by humans.
Gavasa had been forced out of its original hiding place after being discovered by the Newcomer Squad’s captain, so it came here hoping to join forces with Alek.
But it seemed Alek was already dead.
Now, it could only rely on itself to escape alive.
Fortunately, it had left a backup plan for emergencies.
Seeing Gavasa still silent, Colin stopped waiting.
He sighed and the Sanctuary Sword in his hand began to emit a brilliant light.
“If you insist on stubbornly refusing, then accept the judgment of ‘Holy Light’!”
Colin swung the glowing Sanctuary Sword, but it struck a transparent barrier.
This caught Colin a little off guard, but only slightly.
Gripping the sword tighter, he struck again, and the transparent barrier shattered like glass.
Just as Colin was about to continue his attack to finish off Gavasa, the ground beneath Gavasa burst with dazzling light, and its figure began to fade.
“Haha, did you really think that coward wouldn’t call for backup? Do you know why I stood here all this time without moving even when you swung at me? Because I already prepared a backup plan! Now, you and this place will be buried together!”
Gavasa laughed several times, then completely disappeared.
Right after its disappearance, the surroundings began to shake violently.
“Not good! This place is collapsing! Get out now!”
Colin immediately realized what was happening.
That Demon Clan Remnant had long prepared this backup and was just waiting for them to fall into the trap.
Everyone else was still reacting too slowly when rocks started falling from the cave ceiling.
In no time, the cave completely collapsed, burying everything inside under rubble.
I shouldn’t have questioned it earlier.
Not only did I fail to see through its trap, but I also helped it buy time.
Sigh, I shouldn’t have been so careless.
I need to do better.
I should’ve stayed at the Sanctuary to train more, just like Eleanor.
Colin thought to himself just before the cave collapsed.
When Liyami caught sight of the figure, she grew even more confused.
It wasn’t because she recognized the figure, but because she’d seen others like it before—it was a Demon!
Liyami was stunned.
Why was a Demon here?
What was its purpose?
Was it cooperating with Furnace Hook?
Or was it here to take revenge on her?
Unable to figure it out, and with the situation far beyond her expectations, Liyami decided to hold her position and wait for things to unfold.
As for Gavasa, it too was bewildered by the situation.
From its perspective, this was supposed to be an abandoned, remote suburban mansion.
How were there so many people here?
What was going on?
In that instant, Gavasa considered many possibilities.
Maybe the cowardly captain or the Holy Knight had discovered its purpose and set up so many guards here.
But judging by the expressions of the two before it, who clearly hadn’t expected Gavasa’s appearance, it quickly discarded that possibility.
Could it be that they were really just passersby?
Could they have bought this mansion in such a short time, renovated it, and moved in?
And they chose this exact room as their bedroom?
Could that really be true?
Was its luck really that bad?
Though Gavasa wasn’t sure if it was just bad luck, it dared not act rashly.
It was already severely injured.
Despite only losing a left arm from Colin’s slash, its body had taken serious damage.
It probably couldn’t even exert one-third of its original strength now.
So, for safety’s sake, it decided to stay put and observe what the two would do.
Thus, the three of them on the scene all stood awkwardly.
No one moved or spoke, just silently watching each other.
The atmosphere was as strange and eerie as could be.
At this moment, Furnace Hook was even more confused.
The events of the day had almost overloaded his mind.
He originally just wanted to treat himself, but first a slave escaped, then a stranger suddenly jumped out of the bedroom, and now these two were just staring at each other without any action…
Wait, that’s not a stranger!
Furnace Hook stared closely and realized that the figure before him was the Demon he’d seen in his nightmares as a child.
Although this one looked different from the Demons he’d seen before, there was no doubt it was a genuine member of the Demon Race.
Why was it here?
What did it want?
Furnace Hook didn’t know the Demon’s intentions, but he did know one thing: he was no longer the trembling little kid who used to hide in the ashes, praying no one would find him.
Now, he was a wealthy and powerful merchant—one who dealt exclusively in Beastmen!
He no longer needed to fear the Demon Race or the Beastmen!
Snapping back to reality, Furnace Hook looked at the motionless Demon and mustered his courage.
All the childhood fears, helplessness, and his current struggles and resistance poured into his voice as he shouted, “Guards! Where are the guards? Get over here! Protect me! Kill the intruder! Kill this Demon!”
