“In the blink of an eye, I was the only one left again.”
After saying goodbye to Luya, Xia Li also stepped out of the Adventurers’ Association.
They had all agreed to treat her to dinner, so why did everyone leave one by one?
She’d just have to find them again at dinner.
Originally, Xia Li had planned to go explore Aiden Forest a bit, but now it seemed she’d have to give up.
Judging from the fact that the Dark Pit Tree Demons had all been driven out, the monsters in Aiden Forest were at least high-level or above. With her current strength, dealing with them alone would still be quite tricky.
She was just looking for some fun, not trying to seek death.
If she ran into another Dark Pit Tree Demon situation, she couldn’t use magic and wouldn’t be able to escape.
“Better to get my weapons and magic tools sorted first.”
Xia Li followed the main road to the largest magic tool shop nearby, called “Lafso.”
Hmm? That name sounded strangely familiar.
Wasn’t there a luxury clothing store with the same name downtown yesterday?
It was probably a noble’s chain store.
Not thinking too much about it, she glanced at the Magic Wands hanging on the wall and the Magic Books displayed on the counter and shelves.
Magic Wands and Magic Books were the two most common types of magic tools for casting spells.
The former was versatile, used for things like flight magic and could double as a walking stick. They were embedded with Magic Crystals or other precious gems, so they were expensive.
The latter was more portable and allowed pre-recorded spells for quicker casting, but was fragile.
None of these were of much use to Xia Li.
After all, she couldn’t use magic.
She picked up a Magic Book and tried to chant a spell, but nothing changed. Using magic was like math to her—if it didn’t work, it just didn’t work.
If she had to say it was useful for something…
If the Magic Wand was sturdy enough, she could buy one to use like a baseball bat to smash monsters’ heads in.
Just like during the wedding snatch last night.
Xia Li then turned her attention to another option.
Magic Sword.
This type of magic tool looked like a sword, but its value was not in sharpness or hardness. Instead, it focused on channeling magic power, attaching various spells to the sword itself.
Compared to Magic Wands embedded with Magic Crystals, Magic Swords were entirely made of Magic Crystals, making them much harder to forge and more valuable.
This shop had only one Magic Sword.
It was kept separately in a glass display case.
Xia Li looked at the Magic Sword inside the case. The blade shimmered with a silver glow under the lights. Looking down, the price caught her eye: a three-digit number in silver coins.
120 silver coins.
Was this sword made of gold?
No, gold wouldn’t cost that much!
But she didn’t have any other choice…
In this world where everything was solved by magic, weapons were mostly magic-based. Who would bother forging weapons suited purely for physical attacks?
The long swords, axes, and war hammers in the blacksmith’s shop were limited by the hardness of materials. No matter how well made, they were only good against monsters below mid-level.
Ah, magic really was better.
“Hello, I’d like to try out this Magic Sword,” Xia Li called out to the shop assistant with a resigned tone.
“Sorry, this Magic Sword was reserved by another customer yesterday,” the shop assistant replied apologetically with a smile.
“…Don’t you have any other stock?” Xia Li’s mouth twitched slightly at the familiar scene.
“If you’re okay with Magic Wands or Magic Books, we have plenty,” the assistant shook her head.
“Then forget it.” Xia Li waved her hand and headed for the door.
She refused to believe that among so many magic tool shops, she couldn’t find a weapon that suited her.
Before she could open the door, a loud commotion came from outside. Just then, the shop door was pushed open, and before Xia Li even saw anyone, it felt as if an invisible holy light shone down on her.
The woman who entered had long golden hair, black pupils flickering with star-like white light. She wore a pure white robe, and a crescent moon-shaped necklace hung over her chest.
Why did she come with her own entrance effects?
Xia Li was blinded and raised her hand to shield her eyes.
“Lady Veronica!”
The shop assistant behind immediately dropped to one knee upon seeing her.
Xia Li furrowed her brows.
A Saint, Veronica Helweir!
To meet her in a place like this…
What terrible luck.
Of all the people in the Englia Empire, the last ones Xia Li wanted to meet were these ten Saints!
With their strength and the Blessing of the Goddess of the Night, they might be able to see through her body and even perceive her soul’s connection to the Demon Lord at the other side of the world.
Xia Li imitated others and placed her right hand over her chest, bowing slightly to Saint Veronica, then quickened her pace to walk past her.
“If I’m not mistaken, you’re the girl who caused a scene at the Stain Estate last night,” Veronica’s voice caused the shop assistant and even the passersby on the street outside to turn their gazes toward Xia Li.
Tsk…
“Lady Veronica, you’re not here to arrest me over that, are you?” Xia Li smiled and looked back.
She was already ready to dash into the crowd on the street the moment Veronica cast any spell.
“No, I just happened to come by to pick up a reserved magic tool,” Veronica’s gaze swept over Xia Li, lingering on the inverted cross mark on her neck.
“If you’re not here for me, then I’ll be going,” Xia Li turned to leave.
“But I’m quite interested in you,” Veronica’s lips curled, “Would you honor me with a chat?”
“No thanks, I have other things to do.”
“You seemed very interested in that Magic Sword. I can give it to you… no, gift it to you.”
Xia Li stopped in her tracks.
Gift?
That was a magic tool worth 120 silver coins!
Xia Li disliked interacting with Saints, since she wasn’t strong enough to handle such opponents.
But this was too much generosity.
Veronica handed a golden coin stamped with the portrait of the Empress of the Englia Empire, along with a 20 silver coin piece to the shop assistant, then took the Magic Sword out of the glass case.
She slipped the Magic Sword into a rift created by her spatial magic, then placed a hand on Xia Li’s shoulder.
“Just walk with me for a bit.”
“How did you know I wanted that Magic Sword?” Xia Li followed Veronica.
“The great Goddess of the Night has bestowed me the power of ‘protection,’ so I can see others’ ‘greed.’ Your heart harbors the greed to obtain that Magic Sword,” Veronica’s starry eyes fixed on Xia Li.
“Alright… so what do you want to talk about?”
“About your rampage at the Stain Estate yesterday.”
“…You really aren’t here to arrest me?”
“I saw no greed for nobility in you. That Stain family girl left willingly with you, so that’s a family matter among nobles. I have no right to interfere.”
“Then what exactly do you want to say?”
“City Lord Elma Stain used curse magic on you but suffered backlash,” Veronica stared into Xia Li’s pupils, “How did you manage that?”
