Chapter 4: You sleep so soundly, your grades must be very good

Not long after returning to the classroom, the girls in the class once again gathered around Mo Yidong.

Xia Yu wasn’t fond of the noisy atmosphere and found her seat taken, unable to argue with them, so she simply stood in the corridor to get some fresh air.

The early summer breeze was gentle and refreshing.

Under the clear sky, the shade of the trees blocked one side of the teaching building, and the cool weather lifted Xia Yu’s spirits considerably.

Having grown up with her Grandmother, Xia Yu’s first awakening had burned her own eyes, sending her to a special convalescent hospital that treated supernatural ailments.

Because Grandmother’s legs weren’t strong, she couldn’t accompany Xia Yu and had to leave her alone in the hospital.

Raised as a human, Xia Yu felt helpless and scared in the convalescent hospital.

Her body and voice changed, and her eyesight faded to nothing.

Every day was filled with injections and medicine, like a lab rat enduring endless torment.

Only one thing made her happy.

In the hospital, Xia Yu met a kind young boy she didn’t know.

He was especially gentle, visiting daily to play with her and sharing many stories she had never heard before.

As the day to remove her bandages approached, little Xia Yu eagerly wanted to see the boy’s face so she could find him again after discharge.

After that…

What happened after that, Xia Yu barely remembered.

Since she never saw the boy’s real face, she couldn’t be certain that Mo Yidong was the same person from the hospital just because of a bracelet.

Besides, he wasn’t the person he was back then.

Whatever feelings had sprouted then had long been buried deep inside him.

In the end, Xia Yu only remembered that the hospital had suffered a massive Fire.

When the Police checked the hospital’s records, Xia Yu’s name was nowhere to be found.

At that time, her gender was registered as female.

He was a man, not some silver-haired vampire girl!

And he definitely wouldn’t be into men!!!

As the class bell rang, Xia Yu scratched her head and lazily returned to the classroom.

“It’s really rare to see you around now.”

Xia Yu, looking exhausted, saw Mu Yiqiu greet him and felt a strange helplessness inside.

“Sleeping in your own seat isn’t easy nowadays either.”

Xia Yu yawned and laid her head on the desk, then heard a voice from the front:

“Do you want to go to the cafeteria together later or should we just bring something up for you?”

“Just bring me a steamed bun or bread or something…”

“Where’s your cafeteria card?”

Just after she said that, Xia Yu was so sleepy he almost forgot someone was beside him.

“Why don’t we just go together then!”

Mu Yiqiu suddenly remembered the new student might not know the way and took the initiative to invite him.

“You haven’t got your Student ID Card yet, right?”

“Not yet.”

“That’s perfect. Yu-ge will take you to get one while I line up for food. Since we’re classmates, I’ll look out for you.”

“I…”

Sigh, whatever.

Xia Yu said nothing as Mu Yiqiu included him in the plan.

So tired…

He didn’t sleep well this entire class.

Every time he was about to fall asleep, the desk next to him would make some noise.

Either doodling in a textbook or flipping pages, the sounds would wake him up.

Why was it so hard to catch some sleep today!?

Xia Yu impatiently opened his eyes and saw Mo Yidong focusing intently on the lecture—a stark contrast, as if they belonged to two different worlds.

This person clearly didn’t belong here.

“Am I disturbing you?”

Mo Yidong whispered, eyes fixed straight ahead.

He had purposely minimized the sounds of flipping pages and writing, but caught Xia Yu’s restless gaze.

“You sleep through every class; your grades must be great.”

Xia Yu clenched his fists, forcing himself to sit up straight and coldly pulled out the book for the lesson, staring ahead with a detached expression.

“That’s right. I can ace the test with my eyes closed. Try it yourself if you don’t believe me.”

Seeing Mo Yidong’s calm gaze, he stopped fiddling with his pen and faintly smiled.

“I’ll try next time then.”

That one sentence fully revived Xia Yu’s spirits—now he couldn’t sleep at all.

This deskmate was really impossible!

Finally, it was lunchtime.

The school cafeteria was packed with people.

On the way to get Mo Yidong’s Student ID Card, someone greeted them.

Ahead stood a tall, sturdy boy with striking bright red short hair and a fierce expression, walking straight toward them.

“Who’s that?”

Xia Yu glanced at the red-haired boy staring at Mo Yidong.

The two exchanged looks, but Mo Yidong’s face remained expressionless, cold as if the boy’s appearance was nothing unexpected.

The red-haired boy smiled and waved at Mo Yidong, followed by five or six others coming their way.

If this weren’t the cafeteria, the scene would have looked like a fight was about to break out.

“He’s my brother.”

Xia Yu looked between the red-haired boy and Mo Yidong, blinking.

“You two don’t look alike at all.”

“That’s because he’s my stepbrother.”

After their father remarried, the stepmother had a son a year older than Mo Yidong who had even changed his surname to fit into the family.

“Uh…”

When it came to family matters, no one wanted to dig deeper.

“Have you found the girl you’re looking for?”

“It’s the first day of Enrollment Day. Haven’t had the chance yet.”

“In such a big place, it’s more reliable to use a missing person notice.”

The red-haired boy took a step forward, brow furrowed as he stared at the impassive Mo Yidong.

Their conversation sounded like casual small talk, but Mo Yidong never showed the slightest reaction.

“You know, instead of going to the Rocket Class, you insisted on the regular class. Your parents must be complaining again.”

“They already made it clear on the phone.”

“We’re at the same school anyway. Want to have lunch together?”

Xia Yu glanced left and right, feeling a little uncomfortable being sandwiched between the two tall brothers.

Since they were siblings, it wasn’t a problem for them to eat together.

After a brief exchange, Mo Yidong calmly looked down at his deskmate, who was barely half his height.

“No thanks. I’m eating with my classmates.”

Mo Yidong’s one sentence shifted the topic onto Xia Yu.

“Big brother, how come you’re hanging out with him?”

Xia Yu shot a glare at the speaker and noticed the two unremarkable black-haired boys behind the redhead shrinking back a little.

“Hanging out with me? I’m still his deskmate.”
