She found herself once again on the familiar street.
There was already a clear sense that something was off.
Yesterday at this time, she had been busy in her inn room modifying her gunblade, so absorbed she forgot the time to go out and take on a task.
But under normal circumstances, at this hour, mercenaries and adventurers should be flocking to the Adventurer Association to accept tasks.
Yet now, the number of mercenaries on the street was sparse, and even those present strolled aimlessly, showing none of the usual bustle.
Just as she suspected, after such a major incident yesterday, word had already spread through the mercenary circles.
No mercenary who survived countless battles to this day was a brainless fool.
Knowing the outskirts of the Mageling Forest were no longer safe, it was only natural they chose to avoid danger for now.
However, she could still see other adventurers heading toward the Association.
A quick glance revealed that most of them were Silver Rank.
Bronze Rank and below were almost nowhere to be seen, clearly having received news from the Association as well.
“Well, it seems the situation is worse than I imagined.”
Krexia didn’t hurry, simply walking toward the Association at a leisurely pace.
She passed by a fruit stand, and suddenly stopped, sweeping her gaze over it.
There were many kinds of fruit on display—perhaps because of magic, even off-season and exotic varieties could be found.
Of course, such fruit was also unsurprisingly expensive.
Krexia thought for a moment, then finally spent 40 copper coins on a bag of apples that looked decent.
She pulled one out, gave it a casual wipe, and took a bite.
“Always carry an apple with you.”
She still remembered the various ridiculous rules Coutia had set for her.
Some of them were so absurd she chose to ignore them.
But ones like this, easy enough to follow, she decided to try and obey—though she didn’t really know what would happen.
Anyway, after a few bites, apart from thinking “This apple is pretty sweet,” she didn’t feel much else.
Oh, and a faint sense of fullness.
Now that she thought about it, since waking up until now, aside from a few mugs of beer last night, she hadn’t eaten anything at all—living on Magic Crystals these past days.
Yet she hadn’t felt any hunger.
It seemed this body could maintain its energy just from mana alone.
That was indeed convenient.
Though the cost of meals was a bit high, especially with that mischievous troublemaker living inside her.
Thinking of this, Krexia took out a Third-Tier Core from her Storage Ring and popped it into her mouth.
Mm~ Tastes like Destiny~
***
The Adventurer Association was not far from the inn where Krexia stayed; it was about a ten-minute walk.
Sure enough, the Association’s spacious hall was empty except for about twenty people.
Nearly all were Silver Adventurers.
In front of them stood two more adventurers, one male and one female.
The man was immensely tall and sturdy, clad in full plate knight armor, with a massive wide-bladed greatsword strapped to his back—the blade alone was nearly two meters, looking like a miniature coffin lid.
With his solid build and heavy armor, he resembled a mobile fortress.
The woman at his side wore a pure white Priestess dress, tall and mature, her chestnut hair tied behind with a pale yellow ribbon.
Her face was calm and pure, exuding a peaceful aura.
Both bore the same pale blue cross insignia.
As a noble’s child, Krexia recognized it immediately.
White Sanctuary, a subordinate organization jointly operated by the Church of Light and the Royal Family, mainly responsible for handling and investigating abnormal events within a region.
They maintained deep connections with local Adventurer Associations and other grassroots organizations, possessing a vast intelligence network that allowed them to respond swiftly to incidents.
Their presence was not surprising—in fact, it was exactly as Krexia had expected.
When Krexia entered, Sensa’s eyes brightened.
“Miss Krexia! You finally arrived!”
Sensa’s call drew the attention of all the adventurers, including the Priestess and Sanctum Knight.
Suddenly being stared at by so many, Krexia felt a bit awkward.
But then she remembered—she was one of the few who survived the mutated monster attack yesterday, not only unharmed but having defeated them as well.
Her information had likely already been reported to the White Sanctuary.
Krexia greeted Sensa with a smile.
“Miss Sensa, still as beautiful as ever. Has the compensation you mentioned yesterday arrived? I’ve been looking forward to it.”
“Ahaha, of course it has.”
Sensa glanced nervously at the leading Knight and Priestess, then laughed.
Seeing no objection from the two, Sensa took a package from behind the counter and placed it on the desk.
“After review by the upper levels, it was confirmed that the task difficulty was abnormally increased due to unforeseen events. Therefore, your compensation is as follows.”
She opened the package, revealing an exquisitely crafted box inside.
Inside the box were dozens of gold coins worth 10 each, and a gleaming Golden Insignia.
Krexia’s gaze was immediately drawn from the task board.
When she saw the gold coins, her eyes glazed over—the Golden Insignia was ignored entirely.
“Double the original task reward, with additional compensation for lost magic materials and other factors—totaling 140 gold coins. Also, in recognition of your abilities, the upper level has specially approved your promotion to Gold Adventurer.”
Sensa reached over, removed the Silver Badge from Krexia’s chest, and replaced it with the golden one from the box.
Only after she had finished putting away the coins did Krexia notice the badge change on her chest.
Staring at the Golden Insignia, she was visibly stunned.
Gold Adventurer?
Aside from showing off, what’s the point?
Sensa, realizing Krexia didn’t quite grasp the significance of the promotion—and remembering she wasn’t human—began to explain in the simplest terms possible.
“Miss Krexia, the rank promotion comes with great benefits.”
“Put simply, starting from Gold Rank, if an adventurer completes a certain amount of C-rank or higher tasks each month, they receive a considerable sum from the Adventurer Association.”
“Gold Adventurers who fulfill the Official Task quota also receive an additional 100 gold coins as a monthly salary.”
How much?
The greedy one was instantly captivated.
