For some reason, on the way over just now, there was always a subtle, almost imperceptible smile playing at Ning Dongya’s lips, as if she was in an exceptionally good mood.
But just before we got on the elevator, she’d looked exhausted. The moment she saw me, she turned like this.
Ugh, could it be this woman has some strange hobby! Does she really get pleasure from bullying me, a catgirl intern?
She wasn’t like this at all before—before I turned into a catgirl, when we were dating…
And another thing, does she really get it?
In my mind, the President’s only job is to assign tasks to subordinates and show up at important moments for appearances’ sake. She doesn’t need to pay attention to basic work. Even without the relevant skills, it wouldn’t matter…
Meh, I don’t really know, nya… It’s not like I’ve ever been a President.
At that moment, Ning Dongya, who hadn’t said a word the entire way, suddenly spoke up.
“Oh right, little one, your name is Gui Yun, isn’t it?”
The tail behind me shot up warily. I had no idea why Ning Dongya was asking me that when it was all in my file anyway.
I nodded warily, my body instinctively shrinking back, almost melding into the cold wall of the elevator. “…Isn’t it on the file?” My voice carried some confusion and a touch of instinctive caution.
“Files are just files,” Ning Dongya said offhandedly, waving a hand. The click of her high heels echoed crisply and rhythmically on the company’s polished corridor tiles, each step landing on my taut nerves.
She turned her head, her gaze lingering on me with a playful, scrutinizing amusement, as if admiring a new, moving doll she’d just gotten her hands on. “Little one… this name is pretty unique. Just hearing it makes me want to pat your head.”
Her red lips curved into an even deeper arc, and there was a dangerous teasing glint in her eyes that almost seemed to spill over.
Unique? Has she already noticed something? Is she trying to use my name to test me?
If she were to see through my identity here, what would happen?
A strong sense of unease pressed down on my chest like an invisible hand, my heartbeat accelerating with every second.
“Ugh…” I let out a short whimper from my throat, my ears pressed flat against my head, tail stiff as if frozen. Pat my head?! Absolutely not! This is definitely the start of a new round of teasing!
Almost reflexively, I shook my head hard, scooting half a step back, trying to put some distance between us to relieve the suffocating tension. “N-no need! Boss!”
It was as if Ning Dongya didn’t hear my refusal at all—or maybe, my resistance only made her more interested.
She let out a hum of amusement, a sound as light as a feather brushing my ear, making all the fur on my body stand on end. Without breaking stride, she continued walking half a step ahead of me, that forceful perfume mixed with her uniquely oppressive presence wrapping tightly around me.
“What are you afraid of? I’m not going to eat you.” Her tone was lazy, as if teasing an overly frightened little animal. “I just think… ‘Gui Yun’ is a name that, together with your look, makes for a surprisingly cute contrast.”
She paused, then added with meaning, “…little one.”
“Ugh nya!” That nickname jabbed at a hidden switch inside me like a fine needle. A wave of indescribable embarrassment, mingled with even deeper anxiety, surged up. Why does she always call me that?
Back then… when we were dating… The thought flashed through my mind like lightning, but I crushed it immediately. No, don’t think about it! That was a totally different situation! The person in front of me now is a devilish President with a twisted sense of humor!
My cheeks burned hot, my gaze darted all around, not daring to meet her eyes.
Ugh, why is this walk taking so long? The hallway seems endless…
Our footsteps echoed in the empty space, and every time I tried to widen the gap between us, Ning Dongya’s keen perception caught me, so I had no choice but to lower my head and shuffle back to her side, pretending nothing had happened.
At last, she stopped in front of a frosted glass door with no signage. She swiped her card smoothly; the lock gave a soft “beep.” She pushed the door open but didn’t go in right away, turning instead to let me enter first, cutting off any chance I had to escape.
She bent down slightly, and her stunningly beautiful face filled my vision in an instant. In her deep eyes, I saw my own panicked, puffed-up, arched-back reflection—like a little cat cornered. I could see the curve of her thick lashes, and feel the warmth of her breath brush the tip of my nose.
“We’re here, little one,” her voice dropped lower, thick with an inescapable authority, her red lips almost touching the tip of my ear that was quivering with nerves. “Welcome to your spe~cial~cla~ss~room~.”
The smile in her eyes unfurled completely, weaving a careful net that locked me tightly in place.
At this point, it seemed like I had no choice but to go in…
But what surprised me was that the room Ning Dongya brought me to was just an ordinary multimedia classroom. Apart from some teaching materials and the multimedia equipment she’d told someone to turn on in advance, there was nothing else.
No strange or weird things at all…
Realizing this, I secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
But that didn’t rule out the chance that she might do something odd to me later, like just now when she cornered me in the elevator…
I hesitated a moment but shuffled in anyway, picking the seat farthest from the podium, sitting almost pressed against the wall. My tail instinctively curled around the leg of the chair, seeking whatever little comfort I could.
She didn’t seem surprised at my choice at all, just let out a light chuckle and skillfully started operating the computer and projector at the podium.
The screen lit up, displaying the interface of a standard commercial art program and several design samples. It all looked… perfectly normal. My tense shoulders relaxed just a little, but I still kept my eyes fixed on her, not daring to let my guard down. Sunlight streamed in through the frosted glass windows, outlining her focused profile as she worked the equipment—sharp and sleek, exuding an aura that brooked no argument.
“Don’t be so nervous, little one,” she said without looking back, her voice lazy and unconcerned, fingers flying over the keyboard. “Today’s content is simple—just helping you get familiar with the common art styles we use for projects, and some basic software operations.”
A set of exquisitely drawn character concept sheets began playing on the projection screen—smooth lines, vibrant colors, definitely high-level commercial work.
I let out a small sigh of relief. So I really was just overthinking? Maybe Ning Dongya really just wanted to fulfill her duties as the boss today? My attention was slowly drawn in by the beautiful images, my tense tail relaxing, the tip idly tapping against the chair leg. Maybe… I should try to listen seriously?
