For this suddenly-appearing girl, everyone’s reactions were quite strange; even Qin Xiao and Chen Rui could sense that something was off.
The other party scratched her head and smiled apologetically, saying she was late, making her seem especially cute.
Because of this, most of the survivors overlooked an important question—why hadn’t anything happened to her? Was it really just luck?
“Why are you fine?” Qin Xiao demanded, questioning how a girl could remain so normal after witnessing such a bloody scene.
“Me? I don’t know, maybe I’m just lucky!” The girl went downstairs by herself, completely unaware of the hostile and wary stares directed her way.
“Why are you slandering me?” The one who spoke was An Ling. She had wanted to deal with this girl earlier, but the other had vanished in the blink of an eye, only to reappear at night.
“Eh? It’s you, pretty sister. I remember we only spoke once—when I asked you to introduce me to that fierce but handsome guy. We haven’t talked since, so how did I slander you?”
The girl looked innocent and harmless, her face full of surprise and confusion.
Even An Ling couldn’t tell whether this expression was real or just an act.
Was it possible that witnessing the slaughter had overstimulated her brain? That was possible, but not likely.
Unless, from the very beginning, she was mentally ill. Wait—mentally ill? Crazy? In some cases, those could mean the same thing.
An Ling’s gaze suddenly turned cold. Whether this woman was schizophrenic or amnesiac, one thing was certain—she definitely had a problem.
Why keep around someone with a problem like that?
She’d only be increasing her own risk!
With that thought, An Ling didn’t hesitate at all. She decisively picked up her compound bow and drew it. Qin Xiao, hearing the movement, looked at her in disbelief.
Whoosh!
The arrow flew from the string, swift as lightning, piercing the girl’s chest in an instant. The force drove it clean through her, throwing her back onto the stairs.
“Ah…..” The girl let out a scream of agony, curling up on the floor and wailing in pain. The arrow had gone through her heart and lungs—she was undoubtedly doomed.
Bathed in the red glow from the flare, everyone nearby saw An Ling’s actions and was startled, hurriedly backing several steps away from this lunatic.
That’s right—at this point, with An Ling attacking so suddenly, all the survivors had already pegged her as a lunatic.
“Why did you kill her?” Qin Xiao’s voice was cold. He didn’t like killing, and he especially hated those who killed wantonly.
“She’s a problem.” An Ling only spoke four words, offering no further explanation.
She had nothing to prove to anyone. From the moment this girl tried to slander her, she was trying to push her toward death. Qin Xiao frowned, as if lost in thought; so far, everything An Ling had said kept coming true.
She seemed to have seen many supernatural events—so much so that Qin Xiao found it hard not to believe her now.
“Jie, I believe you…” Chen Rui stood behind An Ling, then turned to the crowd to explain for her. “Who here could sleep so soundly in such a dangerous place? Not only did she do it, she acted totally normal afterward. I seriously suspect she’s mentally disturbed—a split-personality lunatic!”
Chen Rui’s explanation made sense, and a few survivors were visibly shaken, but people are like that—they instinctively fear anyone who’s killed someone.
An Ling’s face was expressionless. She didn’t care what others thought. In a situation like this, if you didn’t protect yourself within your abilities, wouldn’t that make you worthless?
The flare continued to burn, casting a red glow, but the people around fell silent.
Sha-sha—
“Look! That body—it moved!” One of the survivors seemed to notice something, shouting in terror.
Everyone immediately looked at the girl’s body by the stairs—and then, something horrifying happened!
The girl stood up in a bizarre posture, just like a zombie in a movie. If you looked closely, you’d see that not a drop of blood flowed from her wounds. Her entire body looked shriveled from within.
This could only be called a monster!
“Big sis, you really hurt me, you know.”
The girl yanked the arrow from her chest, pulling out a mass of blackened tissue, then snapped it in two and tossed it aside.
She was smiling, as if gazing at everyone present.
“It seems I wrongly accused you. Sorry,” Qin Xiao said, shocked by the scene, but still remembered to apologize to An Ling.
“It’s fine. I think right now, we should focus on how to deal with that thing.” An Ling’s hands were already in her hoodie pockets—she’d run out of arrows for her compound bow.
“What… what the hell are you?” The survivors screamed in terror. Compared to murderers, they were far more afraid of a resurrected monster.
“Me? Heehee, those of us killed by the island’s rules are called ‘Observers’!” The girl giggled as she advanced slowly. “If we’re discovered, it’s a real problem. So, I hope everyone will stay silent forever, okay?”
Suddenly, the girl accelerated, charging wildly—she wanted to kill all the survivors!
Her speed was extraordinary, far beyond that of a normal human.
Everyone was cornered against the wall, helpless. Someone tried to escape the manor, but looking back, they saw the murderer standing right there. The bald brute who’d left earlier had reappeared—now also a resurrected monster!
There was no way out. Chaos erupted. Qin Xiao’s face was grim. Two monsters appearing at once—if they were both unkillable, wouldn’t everyone be finished?
“Is he also an ‘Observer’?” An Ling suddenly called out to the girl not far away. She stopped abruptly, hand poised to pierce a survivor, and turned to look back.
“Nope! He’s just a ‘Puppet’!” With that, the girl drove her arm through the survivor’s chest. Scalding blood splattered her face, making her look even crazier.
“Hey, what are your weaknesses? Don’t tell me you expect us to just fight your kind blindly?” An Ling fired off another question. Even Qin Xiao was stunned beside her.
Big sis, that’s the enemy! Why would she answer your questions?
“It’s the brain! As long as the brain is destroyed, we’ll die!” The girl stood up and tapped her head with a finger as she answered.
Everyone was stunned, but An Ling caught on quickly—this so-called Observer seemed willing to answer any question she asked.
