Chapter 3: Lynn picked up Feng Aotian

“This girl…”

Lynn felt more speechless than he ever had in his life.

If someone saw this, wouldn’t Livia’s reputation be completely ruined?

What on earth is she thinking?

Back when he risked his life to save her, she barely paid him any mind.

But now, after he’d fulfilled her wish and left of his own accord, she suddenly stuck to him like glue?

What a strange person.

The night air in Atz Royal City wasn’t particularly warm, yet Livia was still bare-skinned like this.

If she caught a cold, she’d probably just cling to him even more.

Just imagining it made Lynn shiver.

He took off his coat and draped it over Livia.

Sniff, sniff.

“It smells like Lynn…”

Livia murmured in her sleep, but then, as if suddenly remembering something, she jolted awake.

The moment she saw Lynn covering her with his coat, Livia’s face flushed red, the blush reaching all the way down her neck.

“Uh, um…”

“I have no improper thoughts about you,” Lynn cut her off.

“I’m just worried you’ll catch a cold.”

“Is that so…” Livia’s tone barely hid her disappointment.

So, her charm still wasn’t enough?

Livia glanced at her flat chest, thinking silently.

Would Mr. Lynn prefer someone a bit… bigger?

“What are you daydreaming about? Hurry up and get moving, or I’ll lock you in here and leave you behind,” Lynn called out from the doorway.

Livia snapped back to her senses, realizing that Lynn was already at the door, ready to lock it.

“Wait for me, Mr. Lynn!”

Lynn walked down the street, mentally checking the chess pieces he currently possessed.

Over the course of the night, he had crafted three in total.

One was engraved with First Tier Fireball, for offense; another with First Tier Swift Step, for retreat; and one with Paralysis, to assist in attack—a pretty balanced combination.

“Mr. Lynn, you’re clearly an upstanding gentleman. Why is your reputation out there so terrible?”

Lynn’s thoughts were interrupted by Livia’s voice.

He looked at Livia, who had clenched her delicate fists, her expression screaming that she would not rest until Lynn’s name was cleared.

He couldn’t help but break out in a cold sweat.

Water has its source, trees have their roots—there was, of course, a reason for Lynn’s bad reputation.

After all, the previous Lynn really was born as the rumors said.

“But they’re just rumors. Time will prove my innocence,” Lynn said, making things up as he went.

Livia nodded thoughtfully.

Such magnanimity truly impressed her.

To be honest, if she were slandered day in and day out, she’d have snapped long ago.

And Lynn had a duke for a father.

If he wanted to, he could easily have his father arrest those spreading rumors and throw them in jail.

But Lynn never did that.

To this day, he still treated everyone he met equally and kindly.

People like that were almost impossible to find in this day and age.

Livia couldn’t help but feel a little angry.

Did good people really have to be slandered all the time?

Well, it just proved her judgment was right—she knew Lynn was destined for great things!

With that thought, Livia gently took Lynn’s hand.

It was warm and comfortable.

“Is something the matter?” Lynn asked.

Livia smiled and shook her head.

“I’m just worried you’ll get cold. Let me warm your hand.”

As it turned out, Lynn’s concern was justified—the nights in Atz Royal City really were bitterly cold.

“By the way, why have you been following me all night?”

“Mr. Lynn, you have such a terrible reputation. I was worried someone would jump you on the street at night.”

“If you got beaten to death, I’d be a widow. That would be no good at all,” Livia said, deadly serious.

“…”

If you’re by my side, that’s when I’ll die.

Lynn thought to himself.

A gust of cold wind blew past, making Lynn shudder.

He glanced at his watch under the faint streetlight.

It was about time.

“Hel… help me…”

A weak call for help came from ahead.

In the dim light of the fuel streetlamps, they could barely make out a disheveled, blonde girl slumped beneath a lamp.

Her body was covered in wounds; some of the ghastly injuries gaped open, still oozing fresh blood.

Sophie de La Roche—the true heroine of the game, the one who dominated the main story from start to finish.

According to Lynn’s memory, Sophie de La Roche had just escaped the pursuit of the Abyssal Cult, and was at her weakest.

If Lynn saved her now, wouldn’t she owe him a huge favor?

With that favor, wouldn’t he be able to do whatever he pleased in the future?

So, the most important thing right now was to save her.

Lynn took Livia’s hand and ran to Sophie’s side.

Even the well-traveled Livia couldn’t help but gasp at the sight of the barely-breathing Sophie.

“Her injuries are severe.”

“Let’s take her back—there are doctors at the manor who can treat her…”

“There’s no time,” Livia shook her head, her expression serious.

She took a deep breath, then immediately stretched out her hand to Sophie’s wrist.

“O Holy Mother in the Heavenly Kingdom, please bestow your healing power. Guide the living who stand on death’s edge, and return them to the world of the living.”

After a brief chant, a green magic circle appeared in Livia’s palm.

Immediately, the ghastly wounds on Sophie’s body began to heal at a visible speed.

“Hoo…”

After a while, Livia withdrew her magic and let out a long breath.

Her face had gone pale, and she was barely able to stand.

A classic sign of excessive mana consumption.

“Thank you for your hard work.”

Lynn gently wiped the sweat from Livia’s forehead.

“Hee hee, as long as you’re by my side, Mr. Lynn, I never feel tired.”

Livia cupped Lynn’s hand in hers, beaming sweetly.

Lynn could only helplessly withdraw his hand.

“Low-tier healing magic can only cure external wounds, not internal injuries. In my opinion, we’d better carry her home for treatment as soon as possible.”

“Mm.”

Livia nodded obediently.

Lynn stepped forward and lifted Sophie into his arms.

Looking at the unconscious Sophie in Lynn’s arms, a flicker of envy rose in Livia’s heart.

Then it quickly turned to jealousy.

A vague sense of crisis began to well up inside her.

She suddenly had a premonition—the woman before her might just be the vixen who would steal Lynn away in the future!

And if Lynn could hold her today, would there be other girls lying in his arms tomorrow, or the day after?

She hadn’t even had the chance to lie in his arms herself—how could she let some vixen get ahead of her!

Livia’s thoughts grew more and more chaotic.

She shook her head hard, trying to dispel the messy thoughts.

“Haa—”

Livia let out a long breath.

Watching Lynn’s figure walk off into the distance, Livia patted her own cheeks and gradually calmed down.

“Nothing like that will ever happen. Don’t scare yourself,” she muttered.
