Reception Area’s Main Screen
Yu Song no longer bothered to pay attention to Zhao Xue; the woman seemed to be on the verge of losing her mind.
Seeing that Zhao Xue was still blocking the way, Yu Song quickly took out her phone, typed a message, and then showed it to Gu Zhiye.
“A big gift at the Sports Hall?”
Gu Zhiye frowned, waved over Huo Anran, and whispered a few words to her.
Yu Song knew he was already arranging personnel.
That was for the best—there was no way they could just answer a call and rush to the Sports Hall to wander around looking for trouble.
If all these people followed to watch the commotion, and if the “big gift” sent by the dark instructor turned out to be a bomb, wouldn’t that be a disaster?
Zhao Xue was still losing it. “Officer Gu, say something! What’s your relationship with Yu Song? Are you protecting her?”
Gu Zhiye, having experience in the Criminal Investigation Department and having handled countless criminal cases, had seen too many distraught relatives of the deceased to be swayed by Zhao Xue.
“Miss Zhao, Yu is currently assisting the police in uncovering the truth.
I’ve made that very clear as part of the investigation.
You coming to the school to make a scene—is that your way of obstructing the investigation?”
Zhao Xue was stunned. “You’re really investigating? Then why not arrest Yu Song? She’s clearly the one…”
Gu Zhiye’s gaze grew cold. “Miss Zhao, you know very well how your daughter died. Yu accompanied you the entire time when she came to your home. At the hospital, you were the one who accompanied He Zilu the entire time. My two colleagues were with you both continuously. You instructed them to handle the commotion in the corridor first, and you yourself took He Zilu to the restroom. It was you who let go of her hand.”
The crowd watching grew even more outspoken.
“Looks like the mother bears even more responsibility.”
“Didn’t that green-haired girl say it? It’s Mother He who covered up her own mistake. My goodness, that’s too much! I just scolded that Yu person a few times earlier—hope it wasn’t recorded.”
“What does it have to do with us? They’re all being misled by this woman. She caused her daughter’s death and now wants others to take the blame, even coming to the school to cause trouble. Look at that banner—it’s been prepared for more than just a day or two.”
Seeing everyone pointing fingers at her, Zhao Xue shouted angrily, “It’s not like that! He’s lying! It’s not like that at all!”
Gu Zhiye said impatiently, “Miss Zhao, I understand how painful it is to lose a daughter, but everything I just said is backed by surveillance footage. Would you like to take another look?”
Unable to face the disappointed stares around her, Zhao Xue screamed, “I didn’t do it on purpose! How could I harm my own daughter? She was my flesh and blood, carried for ten months!”
Yu Song snorted. “Has anyone said you harmed He Zilu? They just said you didn’t watch over her properly. She probably wasn’t that important to you anyway. You clearly know how she died but still come here making a scene—just to shift all the blame onto others, right? Zhao Xue, admitting your fault in He Zilu’s death is the only way to face this and move on.”
Though Yu Song deeply despised Zhao Xue, her last words were sincere.
If Zhao Xue continued like this, she wouldn’t just lose her mind—she’d truly go insane.
“Shut up! I have no faults. You don’t know how much I love Zilu.”
Zhao Xue was still adamant she was in the right, but her dazed eyes betrayed how close she was to breaking down.
Yu Song pointed behind her. “Zhao Xue, look back at your husband. Don’t you think he loves He Zilu too?”
Before Zhao Xue could turn around, He Feng grabbed the banner and rushed forward.
“Yu Song, what are you trying to do now? If you hadn’t come to my house, my daughter would still be fine. If we don’t look for you, then who?”
Yu Song laughed bitterly. “Fine, fine? She had already scratched the glass before I got there. Are you blind, He Feng? Don’t pretend anymore—you haven’t been faithful for a long time. Now you’re planning how to divorce Zhao Xue since she’s no longer young enough to have kids. Meanwhile, you’ve got young mistresses outside. Having another child wouldn’t be so hard.”
Zhao Xue whipped her head around, staring at He Feng. “You really think that?”
He Feng indeed had such plans.
The dead can’t be brought back; their daughter was gone. Zhao Xue was nothing more than a fake virtuous wife and mother who had now turned into a lunatic.
He needed to cut his losses before things got worse.
But now that a young girl had seen through his intentions, He Feng was furious and ashamed.
“Zhao Xue, what nonsense is she talking? She’s our enemy—how can we trust her? Right now, my entire mind is set on getting justice for Zilu. I have no time for anything else.”
Zhao Xue looked at him, then at Yu Song, her head spinning, unable to think straight.
She had lost her daughter, and now her husband was slipping away too.
Yu Song sighed, “Zhao Xue, why are you always the one charging ahead while He Feng just stands there like a bystander? If someone didn’t know any better, they’d think he was hired by you to hold the banner.”
The Director, who had just taken sides, nodded in agreement. “I really didn’t realize he was He Zilu’s father.”
Before Yu Song came to the door, Zhao Xue had been fighting with He Feng about his mistresses.
Only after He Zilu’s sudden death did they start clinging to each other again.
After so many years of marriage, she could clearly see how flustered He Feng was when Yu Song accused him. But she dared not scold or blame him for his affairs like before.
Without the bond of their daughter, could she even keep him?
Gu Zhiye’s phone kept buzzing with messages.
Yu Song knew the Sports Hall was being cleared, so she fanned the flames for Zhao Xue.
“Did you come to school to hang that banner on your own? Or was it He Feng’s idea? Have there been any changes to your property or company? Has He Feng been accompanying you to mourn He Zilu these past few days? Did he even help you make this banner?”
Zhao Xue was stunned, staring blankly at Yu Song. “He… he…”
He Feng quickly interrupted, “Don’t stir up trouble here. I can’t just ignore work for Zilu. When she said she wanted to come to the school and cause a scene today, no matter how busy I was, I came along. I do love Zilu!”
Now even Guo Ziqing and Feng Ruirui felt something was off.
He Zilu’s father was too despicable, clearly caught in Yu Song’s words.
Zhao Xue lunged forward, pounding He Feng’s chest. “He Feng, our daughter’s body hasn’t even gone cold, and you’re already scheming about the property. I said back then why did you tell me to sign over the household registration and property certificate? I was crying so hard, but you held the documents and told me to sign ‘for Zilu.’ I didn’t even read it—what exactly did I sign?”
Yu Song was speechless. No matter how sad you are, you can’t just sign documents like that.
Zhao Xue knew He Feng had affairs but still trusted him so blindly.
That was unbelievable.
He Feng refused to say in front of everyone what she signed. Instead, he pointed at Zhao Xue and yelled, “Are you done? Look at yourself—what a mess you’ve become. You probably drove Zilu to her death. If I had gone with her to the hospital that day, she would still be fine! Instead of reflecting on yourself, you come to school to make trouble. Fine, I’ll play along. Zhao Xue, tell me, where have I wronged you? Why are you acting crazy toward me?”
During their struggle, both tore off each other’s masks.
Zhao Xue scratched He Feng’s face fiercely, making him howl in pain.
Two police officers rushed over and pulled them apart.
Gu Zhiye said, “Take these troublemakers back to the station. Today is the school’s opening day; don’t let them disrupt the school’s order.”
The officers nodded and were about to take Zhao Xue and He Feng away.
He Feng, scratched and embarrassed, didn’t resist, but Zhao Xue flailed like a fish, “I’m not leaving, I…”
She tried to curse at Yu Song but hated He Feng more at that moment, lost and dazed like a walking corpse as the police led her toward the squad car.
Yu Song had already gathered a group by the time Zhao Xue and He Feng started fighting.
She asked the onlookers to send her videos; those who had spoken up in her defense also added her on WeChat.
Guo Zhiwei was scared and had wanted to leave earlier, but Yu Song’s words—“Where can a monk run? The temple won’t let him go”—had stopped her.
Now that Yu Song was actually taking the videos, she, Feng Ruirui, and Hu Feifei all panicked.
Feng Ruirui stepped forward timidly, “Yu Song, sorry, I didn’t mean it earlier.”
Yu Song sneered, “Not ‘didn’t mean it,’ but ‘did it on purpose,’ right? Don’t waste my time—I’m busy now. You three just wait for the court summons.”
Hu Feifei started crying, “Yu Song, my mom is sick, my dad’s health isn’t good, my family…”
Yu Song looked at her dismissively. “Didn’t you know your mom was sick and your dad was ill when you slandered my parents every day? What a good time to complain to me.”
Gu Zhiye saw Yu Song’s lack of concern for what was happening in the Sports Hall and her bickering with classmates.
He smiled helplessly, “Yu Song, if it’s a lawsuit, just file it. No need for extra words.”
At this point, the school’s Director and teachers had already dispersed the crowd and were about to approach Gu Zhiye.
Gu Zhiye waved his hand. “I already contacted your Deputy Principal. He’s waiting for me at the Sports Hall. You go ahead.”
“Huh?” The Director looked confused as Gu Zhiye and Yu Song headed toward the Sports Hall, muttering, “Is that it?”
Gu Zhiye told Yu Song, “Captain Ji has arrived. He brought people to cooperate with school Security and has cleared the Sports Hall. So far, no suspicious items have been found. They’re currently reviewing surveillance footage.”
“A ‘big gift’? Is someone going to die again?” Yu Song was a little helpless. It was all so passive—when would they finally flush out the dark instructor?
Gu Zhiye said, “Right now, besides Principal Zhang, only police and security are inside the Sports Hall. No one else could have died.”
“Are police and security not human? Could it be Principal Zhang?”
Yu Song immediately slapped her mouth, “Jinxed it, doesn’t count!”
Gu Zhiye said nothing but was also worried another casualty might happen.
They quickened their pace. Yu Song’s phone rang—an unknown number.
She picked up and put it on speaker.
On the other end came a familiar synthetic voice: “Little Yu, my big gift is best seen when there’s a crowd. Clearing everyone out—what’s the point?”
Yu Song said irritably, “What big gift? Why not just send a bomb? Stop hiding behind clues. Is this game fun? I’ll tell you honestly—we’ve already pinpointed you. You don’t just have one sniper outside your window.”
She hung up.
In a sleek black-and-white office, the man snapped his head toward the window. Blue sky and sea—where were these snipers?
Looking at the disconnected call, he chuckled. He knew Yu Song was bluffing, but he still couldn’t resist checking.
Gu Zhiye asked Yu Song, “Why are you so quick with words?”
Why else?
Always getting hung up on, always getting played.
Yu Song felt unfairly treated.
“Officer Gu, do you still suspect I’m fabricating all this? I say, why don’t you guys act faster, put him behind bars, and stop treating him like a dog?”
Gu Zhiye wanted to say wasn’t Yu Song the one being treated like a dog?
But he held back.
Since Yu Song was involved, they’d have to intervene.
It was indeed a police operation.
As they neared the Sports Hall entrance, Yu Song heard footsteps behind her, with someone calling friends on their phone toward the main gate.
Yu Song’s phone buzzed again.
The people she just added all messaged her.
“Junior, hurry to the main entrance!”
“Little Xi, come to the reception area! The main screen is playing He Zilu’s video—she’s hitting people!”
“Junior, come to the Reception Area’s Main Screen! Big news!”
Yu Song looked at the messages on her phone helplessly and stopped walking.
“Officer Gu, the big gift changed location, and it’s already been opened.”
