When the two of them arrived at the manor, the sky was already dusk, and now, after this little incident, night had fully fallen.
The entire manor was brilliantly lit, bright as day, forming a stark contrast with the pitch-black, eerie environment outside. It felt as if this place was the final sanctuary for everyone in the apocalypse, standing strong against the strange invasion outside.
Naturally, the survivors in the first-floor hall wouldn’t just linger there forever; they too went upstairs to look for their own rooms to rest.
Here, except for the lack of internet, basically all forms of entertainment for survivors were provided. Compared to their own islands, this place was paradise.
Most of the survivors were on the second floor, enjoying themselves in the gym and billiard room. Very few returned to their rooms early to rest.
Of course, An Ling was an exception.
She was a girl now, after all, and needed to protect herself.
An Ling entered a room that looked just like a supermarket, ready to pick out her food. Like Qin Xiao, she wasn’t completely at ease with the food downstairs.
The shelves were packed with a dazzling array of goods. Everything was in sealed packages; besides drinks, there were even snacks. It was almost exactly like a supermarket.
And the best part: everything was free.
She quickly picked out some foods she liked, planning to put them into her storage backpack.
Even if she couldn’t gather any other supplies on this island, at least a 16-slot backpack full of food would last her quite some time.
But An Ling had thought too kindly of the system. Just as she tried to put the food away, a message popped up.
[This item cannot be stored in the storage backpack.]
???
An Ling was dumbfounded. She couldn’t understand why there would be such a tricky rule.
Without spatial storage, her backpack alone couldn’t hold much.
Still, it was better than nothing.
But just as she packed her backpack to the brim and prepared to leave, she noticed another warning on the door.
[You may not take out more than five items at a time, and may not enter more than three times per day.]
This was just a reminder, though—even if An Ling ignored the warning and took out more, nothing would actually happen.
But after all the supernatural events she had experienced, she chose to trust this warning.
In the end, she obediently took out only five types: Assorted Fruit Cans3, Beef Cans3, Marinated Chicken Drumsticks*3, three boxes of cookies, and three bags of toast.
An Ling immediately used up her three entries for the day. After bringing the items out, she didn’t eat them right away; she still wanted to observe for a few days.
When she returned to the hall, the three of them tacitly followed the rules and didn’t take too much. After chatting idly for a bit, each entered their own room. Qin Xiao suggested that they pick rooms next to his, so that in case of crisis, he could act quickly to protect them.
An Ling was naturally very grateful, and Chen Rui thanked him repeatedly as well.
Since the two of them arrived at the manor, no new survivors had come.
Some survivors chose rooms on the third floor, but An Ling saw with her own eyes that they didn’t follow the warnings inside.
But what did that have to do with her?
She entered her room to find it fully equipped: a private bathroom, a double bed, desk and chair, air conditioning—everything just like a modern hotel, except for the lack of a TV.
The door opened inward. Remembering the warning in the supermarket, An Ling immediately checked the entrance to see if there were any similar warnings.
“As expected!”
